What's on your plate?

Long, hard day here ....... and a torn up right elbow and giant lump on my head. I fell out of the giant tow truck that was in Walmart's parking lot to take my little broken vehicle off for repair. The kind driver decided to drive me and my groceries home. Of course, full of grace, I fell out of the enormous truck when I tried to get out of it.
Bahhhhhhhh -- the only reason I went to Walmart was to get some goodies for baking for a woman who is furious with me.
So, I wallow in self pity.
How are you?

Alffe 07-03-2013 05:06 AM

so sorry :( no good deed goes unpunished. Very nice of the driver to want to help. I hope today is better for you.
Our 3 girls were home for a short visit and we had a lot of fun with them.
I am still fighting with our bushes and they are winning.

Alffe 07-03-2013 07:48 AM

Ok, now that I'm on a "real" computer I'll expand on the contents of my plate. :D (I find it very difficult to type on my tablet!)

Our daughters seldom get to come home at the same time as one of them lives in Louisiana. She picked our Sat activities (St.Jo Michigan..walking on the pier...a beautiful day at Lake Michigan and then lunch at Redamaks in New Buffalo) all great choices. I picked getting into the hot tub that night and it poured rain on us!! But we were already wet and ended up laughing so hard that our neighbors must have wondered what on earth was going on.

The bushes.....multi flora on one side (stickers!!!) and honeysuckles on two sides (8 ft tall at least) and the back row is a little bit of everything. We have disappeared in here and I'm trying to cut everything back....they love to be cut and grow twice as fast coming back. :o

So thankful that our dog isn't afraid of fireworks!! Looking forward to an old friend coming Sat. for a trip down memory lane.

Have a safe and fun 4th of July! :grouphug:

Oh how awful ((Wren))

Of Towtrucks and Bushes and Visits and such

Well, hey, we are Joyfully enjoying our son, DIL, and grandson visiting. How blessed we are!

Fireworks...... may get to view some tonight. A treat.

Consuming mass quantities just because it is a Holiday and FAMILY is here..... kick back, relax, enjoy the fest....

Think I will stay away from WalMart and Towtrucks AND not tangle with prickly bushes........ Sorry Wren about the tumble and hope you feel better quickly.

Time to VEG..... or is that VEDGE...... how does one spell that colloquialism anyway? Well, you get the idea. :D

Alffe 08-01-2013 06:54 AM

Still fighting the bushes here. I managed to disturb a nest of baby cardinals but picked them up, put them back in their nest and all is fine. They had very VOCAL parents! :o

Tried a new German restaurant here with Barbo and it was delicious! We'll go back.

We are starting to pack for a NY trip with our recently high school graduated granddaughter. She was accepted to IU so she and we, have a lot to look forward to.

I pray for all who are struggling here. I promise that things never stay the same...it will get better. :grouphug:

I always feel like this thread makes me want to build a to-do list. But that may scare me and overwhelm me.... sometimes it is best to keep the list of things unknown and in my head somewhere hidden. The past few days have been unproductive, which means that list will be much more stressful this weekend if left unattended to. Ok I will get back to work after this one post.

I have a 15 page paper to write, a journal log for class, a 10 page testing report to work on this afternoon, lunch to make at home, a dissertation to begin, a publication to finish, cupcakes to bake for tomorrow (my closest friend is moving 3 hours away), I think that is all. Oh and the doctor to call and beg for a new medication without making me come visit him again or pay anything additional as I do not have health insurance and got a school voucher on the last visit and the meds only cost $10.

Financially things are terrible. I will soon owe $100,000 is student loans. My credit card bills are a few thousand. My husband is still unemployed. I despise more than 75% of the people in my program and I have 2 years remaining. I also hate small town life. I am a city girl, no offense to anyone who isn't. But it isn't for me. I guess it could be way worse. I need to spin this positively, right?

What is on my plate that is good - is what I should be saying instead. I have a husband who loves me, although we've been arguing for days and not really communicating this week, but it always works out. I have the most amazing pet family in the planet (2 dogs, 2 cats - the best bunch ever). I have a lovely duplex. My car is reliable, although in need of body repairs as I was hit this weekend but thankfully, he wrote me a check yesterday. I have a lovely office that is quiet and zen. I have a brain to some extent -- just need more motivation to actually use it and get work done. I have a family out there, somewhere miles away. I have friends too that are so far away but somewhere out there. There is a world I'd love to travel one day. And I have goals, yes goals to accomplish. So much I want to do and see. That is what is on my plate. Fighting each day and not giving up.

Thank you for tending to the baby cardinals :) I will bet they were CUTE! :winner_first_h4h:

hsiw 08-04-2013 09:00 PM

Thanks Mark. How about you? How was your visit with the family? I am trying to get this paper done and am procrastinating heavily. :grouphug:

I hope you all enjoyed your weekend.

Mark56 08-04-2013 09:35 PM

We had a good time

Enjoyed our weekend. My wife is preparing for an art gallery show in which she will be featured, so she has been "burning the midnight oil" as she wraps things up. Her work is beautiful, and I hope it catches the eye of those who behold. :)

May your work on papers proceed apace and much ground be covered.

Alffe 08-07-2013 10:19 AM

Wish, your plate sounds heavy...please pass it around.

We are in my favorite city, New York with our granddaughter and having so much fun I feel a little guilty. Today is the first time I've had on the computer and am trying to catch up....email was scary !! lol

Went to see Jimmy Fallon yesterday (he tapes in the afternoon) and he was funny!! (I'd never seen him before because I can't stay up that late!) But our granddaughter can and does.

Last night we saw Phantom of the Opera and LOVED it! We had seen it about 20 yrs ago but she wanted to go and I'm so glad we did. Music is still in my head today.

Went shopping in SoHo and she specifically wanted to see the DASH store. We did that. (remember I am old!!) I'm not sure who the Kardashian sisters are!!

This morning we stood around outside the Today Show with a couple hundred people and got some fun pictures of the cast.

Went to 911 Memorial, took the Staten Island Ferry back and forth...did I mention my back hurts? *grin

Life is short and I feel very blessed. Thank you Lord. :circlelove:

bizi 08-07-2013 12:43 PM

Sounds like you are having a bunch of fun!
loved phantom of the opera!!!!!!!! but that was 20 years ago too.
How is the weather?
bizi

Alffe 08-07-2013 04:50 PM

FeelinGoofy 08-07-2013 08:43 PM

Well I know this isn't the wonder thread but I am wondering about so many things...Mark have you heard about the bar exam? And when is the Art gallery show?
Wren, how is your elbow? Goofy is it getting any better? Wish, did you get that paper done? And the most important thing is having a loving, supportive husband!! I've had one for 56 years now...and your life will get better!!

eva you always say the right thing! :grouphug:

Bizi I loved talking to you yesterday!! Have fun in Fla and give hubby a hug from me.

Barbo I miss you and will see you next week.

Abbie I am sending you positive thoughts.

Hugs for the room!!

New York New York that toddling town....:D (singing Mark but wrong show!)

Wren 08-10-2013 12:10 PM

Thanks ((((Alfee))) ...... elbow is well.
May I tell a happy funny?
Service stations have that dreadful new pump that I have has SO much trouble using. So often I can't make the darn thing pump gas and have to go inside and ask for help. Last time that happened a very young woman came to help me -- slowly and carefully :o she showed me how to make the new pump work.
Yesterday I went to fill up and another woman (about my age) pulled in just ahead of me. We both started to fill at the same time ....... My tank was full and she was obviously having trouble and not getting any gas.
I walked up to see (me?) if I could help. She was having the same problem I had fought so long. I asked if I could help and show her what had been giving me trouble. I slowly and carefully showed her how to do it and we got gas!! It worked!!.
She shrieked, she yelled, grabbed my arms, hopped up and down. I hugged her, I screamed and yelled, we hopped up and down and danced around her car. Then both of us were crying. We did something right.

FeelinGoofy 08-10-2013 03:57 PM

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! random acts of kindnes :)

Hi Alffe and the rest--

Papers over, school is out until after Labor Day. Mother in law visits today so that will be interesting and hopefully fun! I love NYC Alffe, so jealous. Hopefully I can visit there for the holidays this year.

I can't seem to shake the stress even though it doesn't exist right now. Keep having nightmares but I am sure soon enough I'll relax and be ok.

Thinking of you all. Thanks for the kind words from many of you. :grouphug:

Wren 08-23-2013 01:20 PM

What's on my plate? Double scoops of self pity. Any suggestions?

Alffe 08-23-2013 09:00 PM

Ok dear lady, you sound depressed!! Please know how very much you are loved and appreciated!! How can I help??

Mark56 08-23-2013 11:16 PM

Wren 08-24-2013 07:11 AM

A couple weeks ago I made my routine annual visit to optometrist and I had to return for more tests/photos. ~gulp~ A few days ago he phoned - I have macular degeneration .... I'm slowly going blind in my left eye and it will move to the right.
I now have a diagram/chart on my refrigerator and I have to check each eye every day. If I see change I head immediately to his office.
I'm just scared.
Thank you very much for listening. You are the first and only people I've told.

FeelinGoofy 08-24-2013 09:51 AM

I'm no physician Wren, but i know for a fact that there are injections they can do to keep that from getting worse we take several of our residents to get them monthly. {{{HUGS}}}}

Yet another thing we have in common dear friend. I look at the same chart every morning with the same instructions to call if the lines move. But I don't have to see him for another year so I can't get too worked up about the "urgency" thing.

Barbo is right....our bodies just fall apart the older we get! :o :grouphug:

LOL LOL -- I have an appointment on Sept. 4, to see if it's time to get my left knee fixed.

The lines on my chart all move and change thickness but I do see the edge lines and four corners.

Did I tell you I adore my optometrist - he's young, cheerful, seems so caring and ...................... he has two cats!!

Alffe 08-25-2013 05:08 AM

Do you take those Perser Vision eye vitamins? The dang things are $25.00 a bottle and he wants me to take 4 a day! I cheat a lot!

Our knees do take a beating over the years...let's see, what can I be thankful for this morning??? Friends like you!

Wren 08-25-2013 09:06 PM

Bless your big, kind, generous HEART, Alfee. How many years have I leaned on you?
I have a list of 7 eye supplements to choose from. Tonight I bought a box of 120 of I*Caps, $17.48 - 2 per day = .30. And 120 PreserVision, $24.84 - 2 per day .41. I'm going to start with I*Caps because Preser warns that current and former smokers should consult eye professional because risks are associated with beta-carotene ....... I*Caps contains the same stuff but no warning.
Can you believe it's been 8 years since I've had a cigarette? 10-10-05. Wow.

Alffe 08-26-2013 07:14 AM

I have a bone density test this morning so that should be interesting. My daughter was home this weekend and she is now taller than me. I was 5'6
and am now 5'3...have to buy petite jeans, because they are shorter not because I am petite!

I'll always be here for you wren....well, not always. :o

And I must confess that I still miss smoking after all these years. I stand downwind from someone smoking. Second hand smoke thrills me and I'm smarter then that. :D

FeelinGoofy 08-26-2013 11:00 AM

home with tonsilitis.... tis the season

Wren 08-26-2013 12:12 PM

((Goofy)) Yuk ....... hope you're feeling better soon.

FeelinGoofy 08-26-2013 01:49 PM

i will be, got my antibiotics and seteroids so i'll be back to normal soon :) what ever normal is

Wren 08-27-2013 05:33 PM

Alfee -- how did the bone density test go? Good results?
Early this morning I went to church to paint ....... when I couldn't do any more I went to my optometrist's office to get a pair of clip-on sunglasses.
Prescription sunglasses would be $500  so I paid $32 for the cheap stuff.
Now I'm heading back to church to paint some more - and I have sunglasses to wear!

Alffe 08-27-2013 05:59 PM

I don't have the results yet wren...said it would take 3 days for the dr. to read. Did get the mamo results and it was fine.

Worked for several hrs. this early a.m. on the bushes and got the grass cut (riding mower)...too hot this afternoon to do much. 93!!! and humid!!

Painting! I need to paint the back porch railings...have the paint, just don't have the urge yet.

Glad you got new glasses....I don't feel like I see well with sun glasses so I don't wear them...probably should.

Anybody heard from our Lara?

Hope the meds kicked in Goofy and you are feeling some better.

FeelinGoofy 08-28-2013 09:08 AM

Headed back to work today. this is my monday :) I HATE steroids....they make me all itchy and jittery inside. Feels like i have bugs crawling on my skin. I'll be so glad when i am done with these things.
