Frustrated and annoyed with pain doctors office today.

OK I have had some interaction with some of you and some of you have looked in on things I have posted and I thank you for doing so. Today has been very frustrating for me it seems as though there is always a problem with this doctors office when it comes time to renew my meds one nurse in particular mind you I have been dealing with all this crap since 2010 and this one nurse for as long as well. So today she returned my call as always in a timely fashion kudos their. But she always is insinuating that I take more than needed what I was prescribed (which I never do because I don't like the feeling I get when taking the meds period but they help with the pain) So today she started he routine ritual of saying so and I abruptly & rudely stopped her in the middle of her little spiel and asked her if she had a problem that required her to take any pain meds at all? snidely she replied I do not! I then continued to let her know that her and I have done this dam dance on the phone more then 200 times an truthfully and honestly I was very sick and tired of it and told her the next time she tries to say I was taking more then what I am suppose to that I would have no problem going out and buying a big bag of weed to deal with the pain instead of having to listen to her ******** anymore and I will be talking with the doctor when I come in this month for a visit.
It is plainly written on the prescription bottle that I am to take 2 pills a day along with the three other meds I am on. I could see if I had a history of taking pain meds and abusing them but I do not I could see if I was calling a week in advance to have them filled again I again am not matter of fact I am a day late for refilling them. So needless to say with the pain I'm in and the mood she put me in and of course me running my mouth because of the fact I was tired of her crap and I ticked her off with my comments she now turns around an tells me that the doc will be in tomorrow and she will put it on his desk and we will have to see what he wants to do. Really ? Little did she know that earlier this morning I already had spoken with the same doctor that she was speaking about for a different reason (his referral to the other doc cause of my insurance) and he told me no problem I'm going to be in the office all day if you would like to come and pick it up or i can fax it to you ? ( told him to fax it please its almost a 45 mile round trip for me ) which he did. So I know she is lying about him not being there. Wondering what her reaction is going to be when I walk in with this same fax and time stamp on it and explain the conversation he and I had earlier that morning ? Also wondering if she will have a job after all this comes out seeing she is delaying patients the care that not only the pay for or they need ! BTW thank you for taking the time to read all my venting if you made it this far :winky::icon_sad::icon_sad:

We are here for you. Venting helps. We understand the frustrations. While we may not experience the exact same frustrations, we have all had them in one form or fashion.

Hang in there. Get some rest. Vent with us when you feel like it.

Hi Messy Mark

Good for you! Sometimes health care providers are plain wrong. They also don't always treat a patient on pain meds. with respect. I also walked out on a doctor, who was my pain specialist but would not prescribe meds. for after a surgery????? What ?????? I am glad you told that person off. If this had been going on over and over again, maybe a letter to inform on the behavior would be good too. I wish more of us stood up to the Stuff that is thrown at us. I didn't ask to be in pain, and neither did you. I appreciate someone who can stand up to these health providers that are on some kind of a rant. Bet someday when they are in pain, the attitude will fly right out the window. ginnie:grouphug:

I did not and today has been one heck of a day and I'm just pig headed enough (as my wife says) that I will not beg. I will wait another 8 days when I am supposed to go in for a re eval. And it will not be a nice visit I can guarantee that cause I am going to unload all of my thoughts and will be moving to another center after my visit to the office that I am dealing with. Unfortunately I will have to travel about 80 miles round trip .:(

I actually called back and spoke to the supervisor of the pain center. He told me he will look into so I guess we'll see how things turn out but either way I will be moving on. I'm trying everyday to get better and reduce my pain level it's not like I sit in the house all day. I get out and try to walk as far as I am able to every day rain or shine my Photography shows that *edit* so if they are not willing to help in this journey then I don't need the negativity:winky:

ginnie 08-20-2013 06:58 PM

Hi Messy mark

Loved the link. Keep on fighting. Let me know what the office says after you tell the doc. what was going on. I would move on too actually. Enough is enough. We all have a lot on our plate, and do not need negativity thrown at us. I will be hoping some resolution can be had for you. Find a great doctor who has a bit of empathy. ginnie:hug:

MessyMark 08-20-2013 08:31 PM

Thanks Ginnie I will keep you in the loop. As for the comment about MJ earlier yeah it's not legal here either. I also get tested every time I go to to the pain center so I would lose my disability also if I come up positive and I did enough of that when I was younger lol. Btw I'm 43 I know young pup :) young pup at heart wise old dog otherwise who knows when to stay on the porch and when not to.

Well today does not seem to be a "computer friendly" day for me:mad: This is the second time I have done this. Some days the computer gods may smack you and your whole response "gone with the wind."
So to make this shorter. Request your medical records from the clinic and your pharmacy. Then comb through them, looking for dates of requested refills, any notation by the "phone nurse" and dates the prescription were sent to your pharmacy. Then once you correlate that info make copies of that information. THEN FILE A GRIEVENCE AGAINST THIS OLD HEIFFER !! The complaint should be sent to the office manager and the doctor. Label the envelope to the doc as "PRIVATE"
Good Luck and keep us updated:D

Hopeless 08-22-2013 11:22 PM

Hi Eva,

Speaking of having scripts filled........ the new thing in my community ......... no longer do docs hand you a written script to be filled. If you want/need a script, they will ONLY send it electronically directly to your pharmacy. They also check your pharmacy record everytime they submit a script. The patient no longer can leave the doc's office and decide whether to fill a script or not. Unless you decline it before you leave the doctor's office, it will be filled. Of course, you have the option, NOT to pick it up. Docs no longer have "prescription pads" in my area.

Oh, another new thing here is even though a script is "valid" for a year, docs will only authorize refills for about 3 months. They can be refilled beyond that time frame but the pharmacy MUST contact the physician's office for authorization. It has become very strict getting ANY type of script filled. This even applies to a script for blood sugar test strips, anything by prescription. Anti-hypertensives, cholesterol meds, anything. I asked the pharmacist if this was because of the doc, a pharmacy policy, an insurance stipulation, a state regulation, or because of ObamaCare and I was told they did not know why but it was across the board with all scripts and docs. I have 4 different docs prescribing my meds for my various conditions and from various specialties so I know it is NOT doc specific. Maybe it is a new state regulation.

I would be curious to hear from others on Neuro if they have experienced anything similar in different areas of the US.

In my state abroad I would think it would apply
Here when I go to my pain specialist some of my
Meds are e-faxed to the pharmacy then I MUST SEE HIM
ONCE A MONTH AND GET A SCRIPT FOR MY HARD CORE MEDS
I AM HANDED the written script then take it to my pharmacist
to fill
Now changes are happening
And I suspect that there might be a crack down
on those who take hard core drugs and are abusing it
also it has become a new way of getting a high
I myself am on opiates and on Meds from my physiotherapist
To answer your question yes there have been changes
only thing it is backwards here the Meds e-faxed are the
Meds that do not offer a high to the abusers the drug world
out of control
I pray you have your Meds needed for your body and mind

May life be good to you
I have a spiritual side a copeing method in my everyday life with
constant guidance as some days are way to tough
God bless and be well

Rrae 08-25-2013 02:53 PM

Caring...

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this, Mark. Someone in pain shouldn't have this much problem getting meds.....unless of course there is a Heifer working in the office  There seems to be one of these in many offices. I'll withhold the language that I'd 'really' like to use regarding these heartless types.

Pooh said it very well regarding how to go about the grievance with this lady.....go straight above her head. My concern for you is that there is a possibility that this nurse's input 'might' end up in your file somehow - regarding your relationship with her. Things she could possibly embellish or exaggerate, using words such as 'argumentive patient regarding pain meds...' etc.
This is something that could possibly raise a red flag wherever your records will be sent.
WE all know what you are experiencing and the frustration (and lack of pain relief IMHO), but maybe there is another 'COW' in this new place you will be going to and she might take the grievance and run with it.

I certainly hope this won't happen and I doubt it will, but I have seen it happen, especially in a smaller community.
At your next eval, try being ridiculously nice to her , all the while you are handling the grievance in the higher ups....

I know! I am probably spouting stupidity, but I do care :o

I'm pushin for ya and I pray this will work out better than you'd even believe!

Rae

I think Rrae is spot on. You need to report this person, so that anything she might say negative would not be used against you in your records. I have had a number of things on my records that I had a fit over. You don't want to experience that. I hope you get the help you need. ginnie:grouphug:

Update after my visit with the pain center

I had an appointment with the pain center the other day.I was so ready to confront the nurse that is always giving me a hard time on the phone . So I arrived about 15 minutes early and asked for her by name and was informed she no longer worked there and was told the doctor would speak with me in just a few minutes about the problem I had experienced with her.
So I waited for the doctor to come in and as he entered the room along came someone else with him. It was the office mgr. They both told me that after looking into my chart after I had called and spoke with the office mgr that they decided to look into other patients chart and one was my wife and noticed that she would hold request for refills for two or three days at a time . They figured this out by looking at when the drug stores would call and also request a refill after the patient would call them and see if their meds had been called in or not from the pain center. I was told she is being brought in front of the medical board an will possibly lose her RN certification and will not be able to work in the medical field as a nurse again once the pain center files there report . I was so happy to hear that and then I looked at the office mgr and told him and you at first tried to blow me off when I spoke to you what made you look into this further? He replied once I seen the request from you for your medical records I realized that you where not going to give up till something was done so I took your record and your wifes records and started to look into it all and that is when i found some things that didn't look right and looked at a couple of other records from other patients and found all the information we needed. After he finished telling me all this I looked at him and told him thank you but honestly it's a little to late because of all this I am changing doctors so today I hope you have learned a valuable lesson when a patient calls the office mgr and complains you will not just blow them off as a drug seeking phiend or label them as a someone over using prescribed meds. Then I looked at my pain doc and told him I needed my pain meds refilled for the last time from his office and that I would be on my way and got up and hobbled my way to the front desk and waited for my refill prescriptions. The doctor brought them up himself to the front desk and asked me if I would reconsider ? I told him noway in He**( double hockey stick) would I every darken the doorway of this facility again took my scripts and hobbled my way to the car. As I got into the car my wife looked at me and said you handled that much better than I thought you would. Had that been a couple of years ago I probably would have completely lost my mind in there. But thankfully I have changed for the better (I would like to think and my wife says I have also from when we first met :) )
I also wanted to thank Pooh & Rrae & Eva & Hopeless & Ginnie and everyone else that rang in on this post . Rrae I also am hoping that this doesn't happen at the new office I have changed to but I will be on the look out for this problem for the rest of my life now.

But I can say it was such a relief when all this went down the feeling of being vindicated was such a huge pressure lifted off my shoulders. Again thank you all :grouphug:

Hi Messy Mark

You did great! I am glad the office figured out what was going on. Maybe from now on, they will have learned a lesson, to listen to the patients the first time around.
I would not have wanted to continue on in that facility either. I would have continued to stew some, and that is not good for anyone. Find another doctor, who treats you with some dignity. We are not at the doctors because we have nothing better to do with our time. We go for a reason! You did great in standing up to both the nurse, the staff, and the doctor to his face. I will gratefully follow in your footsteps if ever I should not be treated correctly. Spot on Mark, and tell your wife she did great too. ginnie:grouphug:

Thank you to all of you :grouphug:
Thanks  Told my wife what you said Ginnie also and she says thank you also. She also said she also was very proud of me that I didn't go off the deep end like I would have a couple of years ago. Since I have become disabled with all the problems I have been having with back and legs has made me a little more humbled then I used to be . Kinda weird how not only does pain mess with how we all interact with people but it also has a humbling effect on us as though it makes you think twice about what your about to say to some folks sometimes when your angry. It does not work that way all the time for some of us :) but I know it does me :winky: A couple of years ago they probably would have had to call security to escort me of the property. Of course it could be the fact of me getting older But I'm going to attribute it to the pain and deny I'm getting older no matter how much my body insists I recognize my age

I'm just sorry that you had to go through such an ordeal.
It's nice to see that justice CAN be done.
Thanks for sharing,
