Wendy had surgery

Wendy our Chihuahua had surgery last Wednesday for her cherry eye.
And because of the amount of infection she has had. The vet was
pretty positive there was a corneal ulcer in the eye. Behind the
very big Cherry Eye. Turned out she was right.

The vet scrapped the cherry eye off, and the corneal ulcer turned
out to be as big as the cherry eye. The vet told me, that it surprised
her. She hadn't expected that. But she was glad she had chosen
to go ahead and do the procedure she did.

See Wendy is still in the clinic, they kept her because they chose
to do the procedure, plus a procedure that took the third eye dogs
have. And sew it up over her eyelid. And let it try to heal I believe.
She kind of lost me with that part.

But she had taken it down yesterday to look at it. And had said, there
was a chance that it would exploid still and Wendy would lose the
eye. And some other parts of the eye. I can't remember what.

But the good news is my husband got no call yesterday. And I
got one this morning to let me know. The vet had looked at the
area, by bringing down the third eye. And the infection was clearing
up. And it was all healing well. And they were keeping her over
the weekend. To put her medication in. And would call on
Monday to let us know how she is doing. And probably if they
would keep her another night.

Whew, I was sure hoping this would be the outcome. It was such
a risky procedure. And I knew the cherry eye, was a very big one.
It was big enough to cover her whole eye.

The vet is pretty sure she wont even need the wet eye drops that
they usually need when they take off cherry eyes. Which is technically
to me a miracle.

Thanks for listening. Now just to find the money to pay for it.

Great news!

OH that is fantastic news, Donna! :)

It's wonderful that your little dog's eye is going to be ok after all that worry. I hear that Chihuahuas are quite delicate dogs. I am glad she is going to be ok.

She does sound to be healing up miraculously... great that she won't even need as much aftercare as might be expected for a case such as hers.

Yay for Wendy! :) :)

p.s. I apologize for thinking Wendy was a cat last time -- a kitty clinic come up somehow and I got confused, LOL.

Thanks everyone.

I honestly have to admit, it scared me to think about bringing her home.
When the Vet was talking about sewing the third eyelid up and then
started talking about me, bringing it down a few days later to put
the drops or whatever in.

Then she decided it was best to keep her. This was what I loved
the most right then about her. She was thinking about if the eye
didn't make it. She wanted her were she could see it right away.

And I was not having to worry about the other two dogs and the cat
getting to her either.

And I told her that. And she agreed.

I am honestly looking forward to the day she can come home. But
it will be okay if its a little longer. Thanks to the fact she is using
boarding fees for us. Instead of hospital fees.

It is a big difference in fees for us. She even thought of that right
away too.

She is really good. And thinks of the people and animals.

I really think we will be changing vets too.

:grouphug:Update on Wendy.

She is still at the Vet today. I got sick in town and came home.
So hopefully tomorrow I will pick her up. The vet wanted to talk to
me before I picked her up. What a sweetheart she is.

She says: Wendy's third eye got knotted so bad yesterday that
she had to take it down. She couldn't get it out otherwise. So the
choses are to either put her under again and put it up. Which at
her age is a chance of problems in a month or later. And right now
she is very healthy. Or put the medicine in with the thing on
her nose & mouth. Can't remember its name right now. Ours are the
wrong size so Derrick and I will buy yet another new one tomorrow. I
am thinking about waiting till I pick her up to get it.

But she says: She wanted me to know that she is growing blood vessels
around the eye, that it looks bad. But its healing. That its got the
green goop, that we will need to clean for probably a month.

And that the Corneal Ulcer is very big and deep and looks awful. And she
really wanted to warn us that it looks really bad. But will hopefully get
better. She also said, She can't see much but is eating, drinking and all other things very well. And is what I would say our usual Wendy.

The eating and drinking is so nice to hear.

Really nice.

Donna,

It sounds like the vet is basically warning you about how the eye looks, so you don't get scared, but also sayign that things look promising for Wendy even if it will take some time for her to get healed up.

Excellent about the eating and drinking! That means Wendy is really bouncing back, even with her eye temporarily out of commission! :)

This was good news. Wendy is safe to come home now! Yay! :):hug:

Sorry to hear you got sick in town. Do you know what is going on?

Its nice to have a happy wanting to go out, wagging her tail Wendy
back. She still wants to sleep a lot but I think that will change
some later.

But she sure is a happy dog to be home. She is ready to go
for walks, now just to figure out how to get a leash on her.

Donna :hug::grouphug:

bizi 09-01-2013 11:52 AM

maybe you could get one of those chest leashes for her?
so it is not around her neck.

Good to hear little Wendy is home and doing so much better.

Wondering if you've figured out a way to take her for walks.

Dmom3005 09-04-2013 05:47 PM

Haven't gotten the walk figured out yet.

But Wendy went back to the vet today. THey were all so pleased
with her progress. The Vet. was really pleased because she
had been having a rough few days. And Wendy's progress gave
her a good upbeat time.

bizi 09-16-2013 07:40 AM

how is wendy doing?
bizi

Dmom3005 09-16-2013 09:18 AM

Wendy is doing great. Still getting the stuff in her eye.

And still has the cone on her face. Hopefully soon we can get it off.
But we will see.
