New denim purses, sewing my new obsession...

Hi everyone! Mom crocheted the corkscrew fringe for it and has done a matching red band to embellish the strap, it will be awesome when she's brought it over and I hand stitch that onto the strap for her. Here's the pics!

I made this one for my BFF from High School:

Thanks for looking! As you can see I really enjoy this new craft. I made a tutorial on the things I do differently then the run of the mill denim bags, hope you like it and that you'll pull out your old jeans or pick up a pair CHEAP at a thrift store and try this for yourself. I did three by hand so it's not that hard, 3 by machine so far.

I am sure you're wondering how we've been, I've had some awful migraines and been feeling ill in my tummy again. Not sure why. Not about to go through another endoscopy though just to learn, yes it's another peptic ulcer, which is what it feels like. But anyway, my pdoc left and I have a new one now, which is fine, I met with him two weeks ago and that was fine, nice man. He liked what he saw judging me from my file to now, so that's good. John is doing great in school, so sweet, he's been wonderful, even though he has to have his wisdoms out soon. They are coming in and bothering him. :( I dread that. But we'll get him through it somehow.

I've missed you all, I just haven't felt up to posting, this is my first time by the board in months too. I just didn't want to post about how sick I've felt and how rough summer was, and it was, John was bored and tired of not having school. He's 17 now, hard to believe, but he is. :D My big boy is a young man now. :D Anyway, hope you liked the pics and that you forigve me for being gone so long. Take care! ♥

What a cute idea! :) I bet you could sell those on ebay......I think they'd be a big hit.

They'd make cute diaper bags, too. I guess you could use a larger size jean for that so it could hold more products. I've seen some pretty big handbags out there so you could make just about any size you wanted to.

This is a great idea! Good luck to you!

Pamster 09-07-2013 08:22 AM

Thanks Kitty! Not sure i want to mess with selling them or not, but I really DO enjoy making them. My family and friends who're getting them are very excited about them, so I think you're right, that they'd be a big hit. :D Who knows? I might try my hand at it. :D

Pamster 09-07-2013 09:31 AM

Hi bizi!

Yep, Jackie is now wanting to be called John. ;) :D Big boy now after all. :)

http://pamster.net/blog/ChipnBub.jpg

Chippy is huge now too isn't he? Yeah, the thing about the ulcer meds, they make us women have more bone loss then we'd already have, IOW they accelerate it. And with my wearing a top denture and having like next to NO upper jaw bone on the left side, I can't afford to lose more then what nature intends at the RATE nature intends, so no ulcer meds for me. I'll be all right, it will heal with time I think.

I also think part of my problem is hormonal, the perrimenopause is kicking my butt these days, mood swings, feeling irritable and crabby, and then weird cycles. No never ending bleeding thank God, or I'd be heading for a hysterectomy, after what I went through in 09' with all that I won't hesitate to have it removed.

Thanks for understanding bizi, I really hate to come and complain when life isn't going so hot, I just would rather wait it out til it passes and come share the good things going on when life starts looking back up. :D Good to see you! :D

are some stomach ulcers treated with an antibiotic?
I know that you don't want to take the other meds but maybe this could be simply an antibiotic or you know what would cure it already? hope it goes away too. does certain foods irritate it?

Hi, Pam,

You do fantastic work.
They look wonderful.

Good to see you Pam

Hope the migraines have abated. Yuck. :( I had a nasty spring with the buggers I think because of the weather.

Great work on the handbags, wow you are fast at sewing if you can make them by hand in that time. It took me hours just to take in some pant legs not including the time I had to put in taking the hem out and then putting it back in. Nope nope, leaving this one all to you, my friend. ;) (Btw, got another pair of pants I need taken in... if you get bored with handbags? :D)

I enjoyed the pic of your grown up John. And Chippy too.

Re: ulcers

Bizi:

If Pam's possible ulcer is caused (as many are, but not all) by H. Pylori, the treatment is fairly specific, takes some time, and the antibiotics involved give you a serious slamdunk... I can appreciate someone not wanting it. Treatment includes a PPI too and I'm not sure if that's "optional" in this case.

Pam:

I'm guessing it is the PPI you don't want? Is that the med that accelerates bone loss? Or is it an antibiotic?

I figure if you've had ulcers before you know the diet... that might be enough unless there's an infection. If you have history of H. Pylori you know there's a breath test for that, but if that is the case, it might be best you have the treatment. :o

I had a problem (may have been an ulcer, never dx'd) after a time of heavy reliance on large NSAID doses to treat migraines, sometimes without food. I don't know if you still take NSAIDs at all or think the cause might be something like that. Anyway, I observed a very conservative "bland" diet for a full 8 weeks and continued to be careful on spicy, greasy and irritating foods for a few months thereafter. It was annoying, but I did get better without meds.

Proton Pump Inhibitor -- medication used to reduce acid production in the stomach, first line treatment for reflux and ulcers.

Pamster 09-09-2013 06:01 AM

Yep PPI is what I don't want. I used to take NSIADS and that's how I got my first ulcer, the second was stress I think, so who knows? I might ask the doctor about a test for H Polari. It sucks having one of these. Anyway, I am going to work on some more purses today, check this pair of jeans out, the rust colored thread embroidery goes down the length of the legs too! I just love this pair:

This is going to be awesome! For a friend who is surviving from cancer and other physical problems, I just know this will cheer her up. I am so excited about this one, I have another I am making that's cut out already, and I hope to get working on this one by Wednesday or Tuesday if I am lucky. :) Sewing is very relaxing for me for the most part. :D

mymorgy 09-09-2013 07:53 AM

the bag is awesome

bizi 09-09-2013 08:18 AM

a new hand made bag will cheer your friend right up!
happy for you.
where do you get these jeans, good will?
bizi

Pamster 09-09-2013 05:57 PM

That last pair isn't a bag yet, it will be though, and an awesome one to cheer up my friend too. I get my jeans at thrift stores here in town, we don't have a good will but if you do chances are in the juniors or girls section you'd find some awesome jeans! I made a quick tutorial sharing the youtube links I used to learn to make and line the purses as well as where I got he inspiration for the flap, and I talked on This page I made about how I do what I do, just in case people are interested in my techniques. :D

If you decide to sell, you most likely would get more $$ from buyers on Etsy. (rather than Ebay).

Etsy is a creative outlet for all kinds of one of a kind handmade
things. Also vintage...so your purses have both factors.

This is a link for examples of handmade denim purses:

Hi, Pam,

The lining with the inside pocket is a amazing.

And I like the one with the flower on the outside.

Mari

Pamster 09-11-2013 07:10 AM

Thanks for the link to the etsy purses out there mrsd! Interesting to see there really is a market for them. :D

Thanks Mari! I really am having fun making them for friends and family members as gifts for this holiday season. I made that flower myself and it went on the first hand sewn purse I made! :D Hoping to get some sewing in today. :D

Pamster 09-23-2013 05:46 AM

I made six purses last week! And I coded up a Denim Purse Gallery to share them all with you and the world.

http://pamster.net/purses/DenimPurseGallery.html

The one with the teal green and white stitched inner pocket I am keeping. :) But the others are all gifts, well the 9 I've done on the machine that I am giving away. I have 4 more to make and then I'll be done for awhile. My next project after that is a killer jacket leopard print inlay with a corkscrew fringe (it's black, if you go to the gallery you'll see my mother's purse with the red corkscrew fringe, she made that and one for me for my jacket!) I need to get the stitch witch (double sided fuseable webbing) and then iron the leopard inlay on, and then stitch it on, put the fringe on at the top of the back yoke seam and it'll be ready for fall and winter! HOORAY! Next after that is a few quilts. :D

Edited: I decided to add a gallery here on NeuroTalk for my sewing projects and purses, so you can see the things I've been working on and sewn. I haven't been able to do my nails in over a month though, so that album hasn't had anything new to it for a long while. Hope you all have a great day today! :D

mymorgy 09-23-2013 07:54 AM

they are really great!

Hi, Pam,

I like the (white/ silver?) buttons on the pocket of one of them.
Sometimes I used to add bead or button work to t-shirt collars.

Thanks everyone! I haven't sewn for a few days, had stuff going on, and just haven't felt up to it, but I have two new purses cut out and ready to go. So hopefully tomorrow I'll be able to get some sewing in. :) Very excited! :D I just know everyone will love their purses. :D Thanks for taking time to look! :D
