Holy Rainstorms Batman!
5 Attachment(s)
We are having a 100 year storm in the Denver Metro / Front Range area. The clouds have literally been sitting on top of the trees for a couple of days now and not predicted to quit until Monday. Roads, towns and houses washing away. Rockslides, towns landlocked by water. They can’t get helicopters out to get those people supplies because the clouds are so low… it’s CRAZY! They have said that if it had been snow, which would have been possible in just 2-3 weeks, it would have been 12’+. Some trillion gallons have fallen so far. In some cases ¼ inch in FIVE MINUTES. 30’ water surges. Manholes have water spewing up out of them 5’ feet high. Loss of power and clean water in some areas. More rain in a 24 hour period than ever recorded here. They released kids early today from school and have cancelled school for tomorrow (a “rain” day… how weird). Have I painted the picture yet? I've attached some for good measure.
So I think… hum.. I have been hurting like crazy for many days now and this rain and even before it arrived is sure not helping. My family is all good so far. Our home sits on the summit of our neighborhood. I needed to pick up med refills today, and cancelled that because some of the roads on my route were closed, and lights not working, etc. :( I really hope I am able to get there by Saturday, otherwise things are going to get REAL interesting! |
Wow! That is crazy weather. And painful weather. I'm so sorry. I really hope you are able to get your meds in time.
|
Crumbs Vrae  that's awful, I'm glad you are safe. Makes you feel so sorry for those whose homes or businesses are affected...
Take care and go easy on yourself while things are so stressful - I'd be worried too if I wasn't going to be able to get the meds on time! You are right about it affecting your symptoms though - that must have been a massive low pressure system to dump such an immense amount of water. It's mad how powerful natural forces can be  Hope things get back to normal soon for you all. Bram  |
Wow Vrae! What a horrible storm...no wonder you are hurting more! I am happy to hear you are safe, hope that continues to be the case. Also, hope you can get your meds soon!!
Take care! Nanc  |
Thanks for the responses!
It’s STILL raining. I think this is like day three? This is not over yet. Suppose to be another ½ inch p/hour all day today. The city has slowed to a crawl, if not stopped all together in some places. The governor has declared Colorado a disaster area, and has called in the National Guard and Coast Guard. MANY, many road closures. This morning they closed the interstate (I-25) all the way to Wyoming. They are now starting to get a few of the stranded folks to higher ground or safe places. I can’t take my eyes off the news! My husband did his normal 45 mile (one way) drive to work today (west toward the mountains), while the rest of us are home safe. He normally drives a little tiny car to save gas, but last night I insisted he take the HUGE gas guzzling SUV. I haven’t talked with him yet to hear what things looked like on his way in. I should hear from him soon. I’m looking forward to that, just to know he’s okay. When it rains and floods, that is bad enough. When it rushes down mountaintops with rocks, mud and debris into towns/cities, well that’s just plain scary! I am really concerned now about rockslides. I think folks forget how you must respect these mountains just like you would the ocean. From what I understand there are a couple of lady hikers stranded in mountain snow. They can’t get to them yet. So when the clouds part and I can see the mountain range again, I guess we will see snow in the high country. There are 160 kids stuck in the mountains at some outdoor ed they were doing. I really feel for those parents, and all the folks who have lost a family member in this (there has been loss of life), and the displaced families who have lost everything in the blink of an eye. Thoughts of the day: Pause and hug, kiss and love on those you love. We just don’t know what a day will bring. It’s times like these that I pause and say to myself; just when you think you’re having a bad day, there is always someone else having an even worse day than you. |
Vrae, I've seen on the news all the flooding you're experiencing there. It's record breaking and so very serious!
I hope you and your family are o.k. and I REALLY HOPE YOU CAN GET YOUR MEDS! All the humidity must play havoc on your CRPS. Thanks for keeping us updated! Sorry I'm late to check in. |

They are predicting THREE MORE DAYS of this rain.. O..M..G! Here is a video taken just minutes from my house. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLjs...layer_embedded  And yes, CRPS havoc would be accurate for sure. Thanks you guys for letting me share. Kind of a scary situation for us. |
My parents have a Condo in Estes Park. They used to own The danish cone factory outside of Rocky Mountain National Park. Last they heard waters haven't reached up the mountain to their condo yet ( they live in Michigan, but are retiring there in a few years)
Stay safe. |

I live on the NM/Tx state lines and we got just a toich of that weather system so far. I have been watching it. I feel for everyone up there thatnis being affected by it. I know for me when the weather starts changing I hurt worse. Whether its dust storms or nasty rain or snow. It doesnt matter. The barimetric pressure goes up or down and I feel like climb out of my skin or just lighting myself on fire would be less painfull. I hope you arent too badly affected by it. Also hope you canget the meds and treatments you need even with this going on.

Thanks!
Last year they had fires close to their place and it made it unscathed. Praying that that it makes it through this! They have planned on retiring in Colorado for years. They went to many areas and decided on Estes Park. My mom bought the Danish Cone and stayed out there and worked in the summer. My dad went to visit once a month and continued to work for the company he owns in Michigan. When the economy tanked and they realized that retiring would be pushed back. My mom sold the store. They kept the Condo. They travel out usually once a year and keep the condo rented out. A couple years back my dad had a dural AVM and they were at the condo. He eventually was transferred to a hospital down the mountain (in or near Aurora I think) where he had brain surgery. It was terrifying having it all happen when my sister and I were here in Michigan and they were there. I have begged them not to move because of it or at least consider somewhere not quite as remote. Colorado is beautiful and I know they love Estes Park. The pictures I've seen of the water and damage is saddening. The devastation mother nature can do is horrible! I lived in Florida through 2 hurricane; seasons and 4 hurricanes total. I hope you have been able to get your medications! |
How's it going today Vrae? Hope things haven't got any worse around you. I've been watching the news reports and it reminds me of when my area was flooded really badly back in 2007 (I live in Gloucestershire in the UK) - except for the roads being actually washed away and the landslides of course :( It's horrible watching your own area on the news, and fretting about fresh water supplies etc and food getting through, but knowing that such a short distance away people are losing everything...
Stay safe, and I'll be hoping that the coming few days aren't as bad as they are feared. Bram x |
My goodness Fbodgrl, that would be terribly frightening with what happened to your Dad and being so far away. I’m glad he’s okay now, or at least I hope that’s the case! The rains and flooding would be bad enough but the areas that have had fire damage on the mountains; well that’s just insult to injury. I can understand why they would like to retire in Estes. I grew up in Chicago and I am here to tell you that the winters are not even comparable to your area. The winters up north (Illinois, Michigan, etc.) they are brutal! A cold that comes off that lake that just cuts you to the bone. It’s not like that here, not at all. Fun fact: Colorado has more sunshine than Florida. Crazy hu? But true. I don’t think I could live next to the ocean for fear of hurricanes. Those are pretty scary! Don’t get me wrong, I love the ocean and visit as much as I can, but there are a lot of things that come with it that I’m not sure I could handle.
Hey Bram, Thanks for asking! We’ve had a bit of a reprieve from the rains but from what they are saying http://www.thedenverchannel.com/weather we have more rain on the way, it’s still not over yet. I was looking here http://www.thedenverchannel.com/traf...34-co-14-co-72 (there’s lots of video and pictures too) to try and figure out my route, to try and venture out to get meds in a few minutes. Good grief there is a ton of road closures. :( You’re right about the fretting, we have bottled up a small amount of water because there for a while our water supply was coming into question, but so far we’re okay (that's not true for everyone though). Food: It usually takes a blizzard for new folks in the area to realize just how much of our food is trucked in. with all the road closures and more rain on the way, this could be the next thing they are talking about. We still have several interstates/roads closed today. I really do feel for all those who have been greatly impacted by this in one way or another. The sunshine in all this is not coming from the sky, but rather the local community banding together to help thy neighbor. That is a beautiful thing! I sure was hurting again last night. My body KNOWS that more is coming. Okay… I’m going to turn this thing off and venture out for meds. Thanks so much you guys/gals! Your warm thoughts are truly felt! |
We made it around the city today, but not without several negotiations along the way. Thank goodness I was able to grab my meds! Yeah! :D I’m so happy about that!
It was good to see some sunshine over the metro area, however the clouds have begun to roll back in now, and unfortunately some of the Front Range is covered up in storm clouds; for sure it’s raining there. <sigh> We shall see how the next couple of days pans out. |
Vrae, I'm so glad you were able to get your meds. I'm sure that is a big relief for you. :)

Ditto! Take care Vrae, and I hope you stay safe and well. Good news on getting your meds safely - phew  I too am watching those Colorado weather reports and crossing my fingers.

So glad you were able to get your meds!! At least that is one less worry to have! Yeah it was absolutely terrifying having the stuff with my dad going on and being so far away. For the most part he is back to normal and they say it should not happen again. Occasionally he forgets words or miss uses words ( kinda like pain brain for us). |
