Prayers and vibes, please?

For my BIL, Jim. His colon cancer is back and very aggressive. Five months ago he was declared clear after a stage 3 diagnosis, 9 lymph nodes removed, chemo. Colon cancer is what our (my sister and mine) mother died from, in 1994. Now it's got my sister's husband. :Sob: I'm so scared for them.

They live in Dallas and were in a motel because their power had been out for 4 days. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital Monday. Just yesterday he got out of ICU. Five months ago he was cancer clear, now it is all through his abdomen down to the rectum. Very aggressive. Has to wait 4 weeks to start chemo again for his new insurance to go into effect. Sis is afraid to wait that long.

My thoughts are jumbled because I'm very upset. Please put Jim and Karen on your prayer list or send them your strong good vibes.

Sparky,

From what I understand, chemo is not necessarily that expensive? I wonder if they should just start it early and pay off the doctors a little each month? Prayers and hugs to you....

Jim saw a dr yesterday that gave him less than a year to live. I absolutely despise a dr giving a timeline like that. Too many people take it as gospel because it came out of a dr's mouth. Jim and Karen are too smart for that, but still, drs should not say that.

A Dr gave my Brother Jim,with prostate cancer, 6 months to live.
He got a new Doc and with good treatments, lived 5 more,
relatively healthy, years. He visited me four times, during
that time, from his home in Fla. Including coming for my DH's
funeral.

Jim will stay in my prayers.

Spanky is there a clinical trial he could get into that he wouldn't have to pay for anything. So sorry he has been given this diagnosis just when he thought he was on the road to recovery. Sometimes life just doesn't seem fair.

Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and suggestions. Karen is working with a wonderful financial assistant/adviser with the hospital. Before this latest relapse his bills were over $500,000, of which below $50,000 was paid out of pocket. They were saving that money to move to Colorado some day. :(

Since moving back to CO is my plan as well, I casually suggested we buy a duplex and the four of us (me, my BF, Karen and Jim) take care of each other. Before Jim went back to the hospital, my BF had mentioned K&J staying with us after we move; I threw in the duplex idea. Karen didn't laugh; she said my BF might be on to something. I wanted to never have a unit number in my address ever again, but I'd do it if this happened.

Oh, and Sally, it wasn't my Jim's oncologist who set that timeline. I don't know what dr it was. Karen and Jim LOVE their oncologist. He is the one who says there's still hope and is working to supply it.

I absolutely hate it when doctor's give a timeline. Like they're God. Any one of us - healthy or not - could have that timeline. And nobody should speculate on what it will be.

Some doctors are just too big for their britches.......;)
