incompetent drs.

So I went and finally got the staples removed yesterday by the same dr that did my c section. ? I swear this dr is incompetent. I still have massive bruising on legs and belly. He put on steri strips and those immediately started coming off at the bottom. So now I have an open incision that I had to bandage up. I tried to tell him to numb me before taking out the staples and he ignored me. I told him repeatedly I have CRPS and he gave me a blank look. I will be filing a complaint today about how he's "taken care" of me. I also have to go back in and have something done about this incision being open and bleeding again. I went in yesterday about it still bleeding on day 10. Now its day 11 and I still have the bleeding and an open wound. Ugh the only thing he's gotten right was counting all the surgical instruments and gauze before closing me up. Well and that my son is alive and well after he was born. Wish me luck. If I don't get some satisfaction from him today I may seriously consider a malpractice suet on him.

Sometimes I wonder how some of these doctors have gotten thru medical school. I saw a neurologist once (he was a resident at a teaching hospital here) and told him I had RSD. He looked at me with his head cocked to the side and said "R..S..D..?" I cannot tell you on here what I said to myself  The doctor I was seeing there finished his residency and moved over to doing EMG's...he was WONDERFUL. Naturally i did not return to the idiot. Unfortunately I have seen way too many drs like this. It still amazes me.

Is there any way you can see another dr, maybe in the same practice? I would try that and be persistent (as I am sure you will)! You definitely need to get this taken care of so you don't get an infection.

Good Luck!!
Nanc

That ridiculous. I think those kind of doctors have lost their passion. He probably doesn't know what CRPS is but he should have asked you. It's not that difficult. It's a basic necessity to get it done correctly. You should knock on his head and ask if there's anyone home.

RSD is hard enough to deal with. If something goes really wrong report him!!!
I hope it gets better!!
Heather

Hi Allanira

Maybe you should consider going to the ER and get the wound taken care of. If he did such a bad job, I wouldn't want to go back to the same person either. You don't want to have an infection. It is hard enough to heal from a C. Hope you get a new doctor soon! ginnie

If you feel there is any possibility of malpractice, start a journal today and write down everything. You will forget plenty, and having it will give you more ammo. Write down names of nurses, what each one said, exact stuff you'll need later.

I'm sorry this happened. Getting another opinion right now is good.

catra121 01-03-2014 02:32 PM

This is so scary...one of many reasons I am generally terrified of going to the doctor. So many just don't want to listen to their patients and I'm just not okay with that. You should definitely complain and make sure your complaint gets as far up the chain as possible. It's just unacceptable.

Lottie 01-03-2014 06:47 PM

Everyone has a boss! Find out who his is and call / write that person with details of your experience. And, stay on top of caring for that wound. Chaos -keeping a journal is a great idea. Is there a Nurse Practitioner in the practice? S/He could look after the healing of that wound for you.

Allanira 01-04-2014 09:20 AM

I saw a different Dr in the same clinic after refusing to ever see that one again. He got new steri strips to actually hold. He also said that there was no sign of infection starting and it was healing from the bottom up. He said to keep it clean, dry and covered so no dirt gets in and so it doesn't get rubbed on by pants and underwear. I like the one I saw yesterday. He says it like it is and he listened to me explain about CRPS. He was also the one that was supposed to do my scheduled csection but this lo decided to come on the 23rd instead of the 31st lol. I will be going in to file a complaint about the one Dr because of how he treated me. I also found out that he was in a rush when he did my csection because he had a party to get to. Doesn't explain why he treated me crappy on Thursday though. He's a jerk and I will never go back to him. Ok here's the conversation when he got ready to remove my staples lol.
Dr: I'm going to remove the staples and put on steri strips.
Me: whatever just make sure its closed. Oh yeah the steri strips probably won't hold because you didn't shave the incision site.
Dr: you don't look very confident in my ability.
Me: should I after the way the incision looks to me and how much it hurts? You didn't listen about my CRPS, you didn't shave the site. Should I honestly have confidence in you?
Dr: well yes.
Me: hmmmm what ever just do it.
The nurses face was priceless in the fact she was trying her hardest not to laugh at him, and cheer me on. The nurses don't like him.

Re: Hi allanira

If ever one wants to know about their physician, just look at how the nurses and staff are around him. Good clue about that physician.ginnie:hug:

Allanira,
I'm so upset for you!! Sounds like they sound have waited until you healed better and have you come back.
Bad Dr. treating you that way!! Yes, I know "the look". That blank stare, then
the over confident pretense that they know.
Keep us posted.

So sorry you went through this with a doc with such little compassion. Glad the next one treated you better. I have found that some specialists, regardless of their specialty, seem to have forgotten all the other medicine they learned and only retain info about their specialty. Mention something outside their specialty and they seem clueless. My endocrinologist seems to be an exception as he exhibits profound knowledge on almost any specialty. I met someone that knew him in school and said he was always SUPER smart.

I can get better answers from him about a different specialty condition than I get from the doc that specializes in the condition. A really good PCP keeps all that medical school info in mind. A really really good OB, should also be well versed in general medicine. Sounds as if the 1st OB doesn't even have good OB skills, much less any general medicine knowledge. Wishing you a speedy recovery from your section.

I will be setting up an appt with my new PM next week also and will talk to him about this c section. I have already refused to ever see the dr that did the c section again. I have an appt on Tuesday for it also. Will see what they say about it then.

Gosh Allanira, I am so sorry hon. Good grief, as if just having a baby via C isn't hard enough, CRPS to boot and this idiot. I am so sorry... Please, as I'm sure you are, watch for any signs of infection. Mom is having a hell of a time; is baby boy doing okay? Gosh they are just so precious when they are so new. They grow so QUICK!

Allanira 01-05-2014 08:06 AM

He's doing great Vrea except a bit of a yeast infection on his little bobo. Yeah that dr will never see me again except when I walk down the hall to and from appts. I am cleaning the incision 2x a day with peroxide like the good dr said to do and watching closely for signs of infection. I put almost half a tube of bacitracin on it also lol. Then cover it well to make sure it stays dry, clean and not chafed by my clothes. With the preggo hormones leaving I am REALLY feeling my CRPS again. I go tomorrow for my VA C&P exam then Tuesday to have this checked again. Then I get to call up my new PM dr and get started on treatment. Good thing I am already storing up the BM for this little goober. That way he still gets what he needs from me while I start on whatever this new dr puts me on.

Brambledog 01-05-2014 01:05 PM

Well done on the BM storage Allanira, that's a really good idea. You've put your little guy first every step of the way with this, I'm glad you'll be getting started on some pain relief for yourself very soon!

Glad you gave that idiot doc a good punt over a high wall. Grr.

Bram.

Lottie 01-05-2014 08:35 PM

Well done giving your baby THE BEST !! It takes love and commitment to breastfeed when you are coping with your own bodies needs. Great work!

Sounds like you are doing as much as any anyone can. Good job on the dressing changes / wound care!

I did that too with breast milk and froze it, once upon a time a LONG (25 yrs) ago. It worked out good. I just pumped like crazy and the hospital gave me tons of small glass sterile jars. Popped them in warm water to thaw. Did six weeks worth.

So sorry to hear how the CRPS is rearing its head. I find it fascinating that your symptoms have been less while pregnant and how mine are so bad during the monthly cycle. I swear there is a HUGE hormone connection.

I wonder if you put yogurt on the yeast if that would help? Just a thought. Anywho, glad he is doing well! And I hope each day you are feeling better!

Allanira 01-07-2014 09:29 AM

I'm freezing it as fast as I pump it. I am also doing formula mixed with it. His little bobo is starting to look better thank God. I go back to get my incision checked today and hope the dr says its closing.

Oh my goodness..I sure hope you do keep ontop of this..We all worry about one another..Congrads..too..

Allanira 01-19-2014 11:21 AM

The incision finally healed. With the stuff I was doing. It is completely closed now. I am back on treatment so no more pumping and storing. I am on Lyrica 75mg 2x a day. I will also be getting a compounded cream with ketamine in it, and a neurological supplement on Monday. My LOs are doing great. The newest will be a month old on the 23rd and he is getting bigger and is happy. I have another PM appt on Feb 13th, and another OB appt on Jan 28th. I can't wait to get rid of this OB Dr. Soon very soon I will be done with them. :grouphug:

Brambledog 01-19-2014 12:02 PM

Glad to hear the incision has healed cleanly and you are back on the Lyrica with a pain plan...good luck with it all and keep up with the good work :winky:

Hope you and your little son are doing well generally and enjoying each other.

Bram.

RSD ME 01-19-2014 12:06 PM
