barbo 01-05-2014 07:02 AM

goofy

Thank you Goofy. Still snowing here. Don't know the temperature yet. Am worried about my cat. She doesn't seem to be able to urinate. Can't take her out in this weather. Hurry thaw!

Wren 01-05-2014 07:35 AM

Oh dear, Barbo - that's terrifying - can you telephone an emergency vet in your area and ask for advice? When I lived in Omaha that was possible -- not here.

We're currently having a terrible snow storm .... supposed to get 8" - 12" today and then the temp falls below 0*. It's going to be a scary time but everything will be OK if the power stays on. It's so windy that we are being told to expect 2 1/2 - 4 FOOT drifts.

FeelinGoofy 01-05-2014 01:31 PM

oh i hate to hear that Barbo :( We got a light dusting last night. the wind chill is down there but compared to what the rest of the U.S. is going through i'm NOT complaining. I hope everybody stays warm and the electric will NOT go off.

Abbie 01-05-2014 09:25 PM

Hi all!! Just thought I would check in while I was still on break, have a few more days.... not long enough!!! I can't remember if I passed along that I finished my 1st semester with a 3.0 out of 4.0 not bad for being out of school for as long as I have. Hoping 2nd semester goes as good or better than 1st. :) Wish me luck.

Sorry to get off topic.... the weather here is CRAZY!!!!! We have about a foot of snow, temp is 13 and supposed to be -15 tonight but we are already having wind gusts over 40 miles per hour so the wind chills are much colder!!! I just heard on the news that at times today we were getting 2 inches of snow per hour  I haven't looked but I think it's still snowing!!

Well I better get off here.....I'm charging my NOOK so I have something to do just in case we lose power....I can read a book....a good book not a boring study have to book...lol!!

Hugs!! MISS YOU ALL!!!!!!
Abbie

Wren 01-05-2014 09:48 PM

 I can't open my front door --- the snow has blown up in a giant pile against it and there's no way I can move it. I think I could get out through the garage door but have no desire to try.
I assume that tomorrow some men from the condo assn. will be here to clean up everything.
It's COLD and will be even colder tomorrow ....... I'll have cups of hot chocolate for the men trying to move all this snow.

Thanks for the suggestion. She seems a little better, but I will call a vet tomorrow. Hugs.

Alffe 01-06-2014 07:07 AM

Mr.Alffe who has not been impressed with all the weather hype...is impressed now! He shoveled the walk and announced that we are housebound! No paper in the box and our sweet Cassie won't go out to pee. We love our new boiler which is being put to the test! It's -11 right now and will go down all day.

Think I'll make cookies and maybe some bread. (wren you are such a good influence on us! :D)

Mark so glad to see you here. :grouphug:

Ruby was not eating or drinking, now she is doing both. I just can't tell if she is peering. She is acting normal.

great I'm glad. i was concerned :)

Mark56 01-07-2014 09:37 AM

So GLAD

To be able to "sneak" a tiny post here and there.

My cervical fusion seems, so far, a success as the horrific pain and nausea resulting from the pain are both out of my mind and body. Surgery was Jan 2, pretty recent, and I feel blessed to have had it and now be home. They did far more work in there than originally planned, the hurt of surgery is definitely there, AND the hoped for realization this will have put pain in its place seems to be dawning.

Being Colorado raised, I know well my personal fondness for snow, playing, working, sculpting, and driving a long road trip with my family warm and safe as the sussuration of it alongside and around us when we move through its sound dampening blanket of the countryside. When I was healthy, before the wreck which changed my life walk, I used to look forward to shoveling by hand not only ours but the walks and drives of our neighbors....... kind of a ministry of gifting, you know? Did that all of the way back to my childhood....sharing.

Some of those snows were four feet in a single dump of white. In our own neighborhood I had donned my snowshoes in times past, then stepping across the six foot privacy fence of neighbors to make sure they were OK as we were truly all snowed in.

Hot chocolate..... sounds good.

We would scoop a place clean for our little pet to do his "thing" in the out of doors. He always seemed to know what that little plot meant, and he used it. He is more grey now, and I no longer can shovel snow, but those fond memories of just being in the crisp cold are glad visitations of my mind to times past.

Please all, be bundled, warm, and snug in your comfy places of respite.
Love and hugs, :grouphug: :circlelove:

OH, and by the way..... THANK YOU for all of the prayers surrounding this most recent of my surgeries to reassemble Humpty Dumpty. I feel the better for it.

Mark56 :)

Wren 01-07-2014 06:17 PM

Second day of no mail delivery. :(

Abbie 01-08-2014 02:27 AM

Same here.... no mail. Don't no why they're not delivering.

Wren 01-08-2014 08:23 AM

I sure wonder/hope that we get mail today ...
Yesterday I managed to drive to the bank and Walmart, and I am a devout driving coward. LOL -- I'm expecting three packages from eBay (a new saucepan, a new Bible and a bird book) and three packages from other places (a new turtleneck & skirt, new filters for my vac and a new part for that vac)
I WANT MY STUFF!

Lara 01-08-2014 02:38 PM

From what I have read, shipping deliveries were already delayed prior to Christmas, so with this latest storm, they've probably not been able to catch up yet. I read that FedEx and UPS were having problems. I'm a little surprised that anyone in the storm areas would expect mail at all. I guess it would depend where it's coming from and the route it takes to get there... e.g. planes, trucks, whatevers.

Weird thing is that we ordered some vitamins from the US prior to Christmas and they arrived at my door only a few days later. LOL :D I guess it was easier to fly out of your country than in your country.

edited to add: just found this.

Weather Sux

Monday I had to go to work, was -42 I was running outside in my jammies my shoes and a coat to start my car  was "nippy" to say the least. Yesterday I was working and guess what it was +50 degrees. Home today -13:eek: work the weekend and the forecast is +50 both days! Loving my job that keeps me indoors during the warm days and sunshine.. Oh well in the summer I get to drive to and from work in the sun and the warmth, such is the life of a nurse....:winky:

Lara 01-08-2014 10:52 PM

It's a shame when the good weather doesn't coincide with weekends or days off. brrrr, it's a wonder the car started at all, pooh.

Oh yes, the life of a nurse. When I started nursing last century lol ('70] we were not allowed to wear cardigans or anything over our white cotton uniforms. We were allowed to wear a red cardigan under our red cape when we left the hospital to get to the nurses quarters, but nothing when we were on duty. Even though we live in a mild climate, it still got very cold especially when doing night duty. Ahh, those were the days.

Keep warm everybody.

Mark56 01-11-2014 12:48 AM

Looking Forward to.....

being allowed outside to walk a bit......

everyone is quite protective of me just now.

Anxious to "get back into the thrill of it all"

Uh huh, :grouphug:

Abbie 01-16-2014 08:23 PM

Not to complain but......it's snowing AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGH!!!!!

Can you tell i'm over it??????? And I don't even go outside much.... :(

Sigh
Abbie

Wren 01-16-2014 08:25 PM

No snow here --- just COLD --- oh, it's cold

Mark56 01-18-2014 11:09 AM

Well being in Colorado....

This place has ALWAYS been confused..... or confusing weather wise.....
The weather cannot decide... warm? cold? snow? rain? sunshine! It just bounces all over the place.

I reckon, it is nice not to be somewhere like the tropical isles where it is always the same...... huh? :D
