SCS day 8
After suffering for 10 years my scs implant(straight to having perminate 1 fitted)is giving me about 60-80% pain relive which i'm pleased with.Setting's need changed as i need controll of the 3 seperate areas individually at the moment they are all together as 1.Body movement is still affecting as if i move and each down to my right it increases and the opposite happens when i move to the left. This i'm told is due to the bruising and will stop happening once bruising stops. Is this true?.
My mood is lifting and starting to feel more possitive. Who else has 1 of these fitted, would like to know a bit about you should you wish to share:grouphug:. |
Yo BikerDen
I am so glad you came to join our conversations! Give it a go because folks truly reach out to help here.
I am 3 1/2 years into using my permanent Boston Scientific SCS and I have tremendous success using it for lower lumbar and leg pain management. One thing I did have to get used to was the effect of increase in sensitivity to the signal if I change body positions. After several months of accepting this reality, it truly diminished in my mind's eye and I was far less attentive to "Hey, what's that?" Your personal use will settle in to a rhythm and routine and the newness of those signals traveling your nerve pathways will become more normalized for you if your healing is anything like mine was. Give it a go, Hoping here all will be well with you! :) |
Welcome BikerDen!
I'm pretty new here, too, but I can tell you that everyone here is amazing, and they have offered me insight, wisdom, help, and good ol' camaraderie!
I received my permanent implant four weeks ago today, and you are correct in that as the swelling, bruising, etc. goes down, you will find that your settings will need to be tweaked. I called my rep yesterday to say that I'm needing another "adjustment" - so know that it will be a little while before it all settles down, and I think that is totally normal. I'm so glad that you are getting such great pain relief! After years of suffering myself with back and leg pain, multiple surgeries, procedures, etc., I, too, have found my pain relief to be about 60-75%. There are no words to describe how incredible it is to have a measure of relief! Please keep us posted with how your progress goes - and if you have any questions, there is a wealth of knowledge here from people who have - or who are - walking the same path! =Becky |
welcome
Hi BikerDen,
Is True...once the swelling starts to go down everything shifts a bit and settles in...hang in there. where is the battery located? that will help with feedback....mine is in my r-bum and I have had very little problem after all things settled as I said, keep us posted HB |

Welcome BikerDen!
So glad you found us!
Congratulations on the success of your unit! You are getting a good percentage of coverage, how wonderful - especially after having suffered all these years. It does take a bit to get used to and usually a couple of 'tweek sessions' are necessary to get it fine tuned. I've had my unit 4 yrs and just love it. I get about 70% coverage. Be sure to mind all the post-op recovery rules so that you won't be back to get a revision due to migrated leads! Yep, that's me. Stick around and keep us posted. Ask anything you'd like. There's a wonderful crew here to give good honest feedback and support Caring, Rae :grouphug: |
Crps
Hi Everyone
I am new to this group. I've had CRPS since 2001. Just last year, I had a scs implanted and I'm loving it! In 2005, I started a support group and have been amazed at how many people have CRPS. |

Just wondering if your SCS is doing better? I recall a while back you mentioned posssibly having it removed . Hopefully, it is improving your pain. That would be great !!! Gerry |

How wonderful that you started a support group! When I was getting my implant a few yrs ago, I couldn't hardly find ANY online 'real people' talk. It's so nice to be able to come here and connect with so many people around the world. Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Congrats on your successful implant. It'll be great getting to know you! Rae :grouphug: |
How long to heal?
Just wondering how long it took to heal after the SCS implant?
|
OHHHHHHHhhhhhhh that's an answer.
HI Froggy,
took a couple weeks to check wound for healing and being allowed to shower without restriction, same time I was allowed to program my SCS for function. Some others on here are programmed by the company rep in surgery or shortly thereafter, took a few weeks to get the hang of the SCS so as to KNOW it was managing my nerve pain.... then I began a doc managed regimen of weaning off of the pain meds, then the weeks of physical therapy and such so there were a good few months all told in my personal situation. Even so, with implant in July, and since I had been out of work due to the seriousness of my car wreck induced trauma, it was a bit longer to secure employment and get going. You know what????? I did!!!!! Resumed my career in all respects, and that was worth a LOT! Yup, :) |
Froggy
With regards to healing time, I found that the incisions themselves were doing pretty good around two weeks, and by three weeks were a non-issue for me.
However, what has taken longer has been the "pocket" where the battery pack is implanted. My surgery was five weeks ago, and my pocket is still slightly tender when I lay down on my back. It was very sore for the first three weeks, and then I could tell that it was gradually getting better. I can't tell you how long until it, too, is a non-issue, because I'm not there yet! However, I'm crossing my fingers that it will continue to progress in the direction that it is going now, and that soon it won't even be tender. But, that has just been my experience! =Becky |
Implanted 17 Dec
Hi Froggy
My surgery sites both in my right butt for the battery and the back for the lead have healed. I follow BLaST as much as I can (I put my arms above my head in my sleep) from Mark56 and I had virtually no surgery site pain at all. Occasionally if I accidentally lean back I can feel a sharp stab sensation in my back which I assume is the lead. The battery is a hard lump in my butt but causes no pain at all. My PM flushed both incision sites with pain relieving something and it's obviously worked. I have other pain but that's due to other problems and I'm confident once those issues are addressed I will be able to get the most out of my implant. Glad I had it done. |
Hi Pam!
:Wave-Hello:
That's good to know that you don't even feel your battery implant anymore, and very encouraging for me! Although mine is better, I'm still afraid I'm going to back into a cabinet, or worse yet, that someone is going to bump me in the store, thereby causing me no end of embarrassment when I grab my "hip" and yelp! Prayers that you're having a good day today! =Becky |

good Q

I had to go back to work.... pretending to be 100% or lose my job.... 10 days post op. While my incisions healed well in 3 months. My battery settled in just fine...it has moved a bit sideways.... I did not really "heal" until six months post op when I could leave work and rest lots....lots. I found this board and learned BLaST and found out way more than my doctors ever told me. Even tho I am healed...I still feel it in me and it hurts to have it jammed into my spine..... laminectomy or not makes all the difference in healing. I am now almost 2 years post op and I want to know...when does it stop hurting by just being in me? Really glad to meet you ....lots of new activity on the board...soothing to me that I have yall' to be with. Johanna |
