Ketamine Treatments Infusion & Nasal

It has been recommended that I try Ketamine for my treatment resistant depression. i live in Phoenix Arizona and the only thing I have found so far is a Depression Recovery Center which wants you to enroll in whole programs. I am looking for a doctor, preferably a psychiatrist who is working with Ketamine off label.

Hi Lifeartist,
Welcome to the NeuroTalk Support Groups!

I'm sorry I don't know anything about this, but just read an article in our
Health News Headlines Forum this morning.

I thought I'd post it here in case it was helpful to you.

Ketamine could help treat severe depression: research

I am not sure how you'd find a doctor who would be prescribing this,
but you could try checking out the Depression Forum at the NeuroTalk sister-site which is PsychCentral.

PsychCentral Depression

Also, the people on our RSD and CRPS Forum
have a lot of posts regarding Ketamine.

I'm not sure if they could help you with off-label prescribing though.

You can also look online @ centerwatch.com for enrolling clinical trials of interest near you.

And this recently on ketamine from the NeuroTalk sister site Psych Central ...

Hi Lara

Some of the best information is through JAMA, a medical journal. This should be available at your local library, or teaching hospital. All the recent work with Ketamine, from infusions for RSD, Depression etc. is available. Clinical trials are also discussed. This is where I go for the latest research. Doctors and scientists from around the world publish articles in that Magazine. I wish you all the best. ginnie:hug::grouphug:

Thank you ginnie.

I think you may have meant to post to Lifeartist rather than me, but I appreciate your post. :)

Intranasal Ketamine Promising For Treatment-Resistant Major Depression

This just out today on www.forbes.com

Results from a newly published study indicate that intranasal ketamine spray can produce a rapid and sustained antidepressant effect within 24 hours, and was well tolerated in a small group of patients with treatment-resistant major depressive disorder.

Hi Lara

Yes, I did mean to post to the other thread. Sometimes I still get confused! I really hope the Ketamine works on depression as well as pain for people. I had an infusion for pain and it did work. ginnie:hug:

So glad to read of your success with the infusion for pain, ginnie. Excellent.
Glad that you are hopefully having some comfort nowadays.

ginnie 04-15-2014 04:33 PM

Hi Theta Z

I had the infusions before my last spinal fusion. This was injected with fluoroscopy into the spine. Worked great for about 4 months each infusion. In my case however the spine had reversed the curve, and at one point the pain doctor said I would have to do the surgery. I am OK now, have very little pain in my spine. I think Ketamine is a wonderful drug, and much better in my case than the epidural/steroid injections. So much research is being done on it now, and more and more doctors have heard about it. Good articles in JAMA published with trials all over the world. Depression is on the list as being helped by Ketamine. Take care Theta, ginnie:grouphug:

Now I am not sure about this treatment? Does it help for pain or depression or both? Also if you do have it done does it make you depressed? Breezy55~

ginnie 05-05-2014 05:57 PM

Hi Breezy

Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you. Ketamine is being used in more than one type of medical situation. The newest I think is a spray for the nose which helps depression. The kind I had was an infusion in the spine. There are others also including infusions for RSD. Hope that helped. ginnie:grouphug:

Oral Ketamine

Having taken oral Ketamine (up to 6mg/ml x 4 a day) for severe neurological pain for several years, I can confirm it's pain management properties - especially when coupled with opiates which it increases the effect of.
I have also benefitted from it's anti-depressive properties. I have a Depressive Personality Disorder, untreatable Anxiety problems and physical pain and disabilities which have left me mentally 'On The Edge'. Mirtazapine and Ketamine together have adjusted my 'Mood' far more than Mirtazapine on it's own.
In my opinion, Ketamine is a wonderful drug in the fight against severe pain and depression. I am not addicted, but I could not do without it.

Dave.
