Is it bad to let you dogs do your dishes?

:p So how horrible am I? I currently have a frying pan in the middle of the kitchen floor. The #1 greyhound cleaned out most of it, but the pug is attempting to suck the steel off. I admit it, I'm supremely lazy and I knew my dogs would enjoy it immensely. I cooked their weekly ground beef and set the pan on the floor after I'd scraped it out. If this grosses you out, don't come to my house and have dinner - especially if I'm using the large frying pan....

But, if you have MS fatigue (or are really lazy like me) it's a great way to cut down on the extra work you need to do in the kitchen!:p

Snoopy 05-24-2007 09:24 PM

:Thats-Funneh: LMAO!

Whatever works is fine with me but I understand MS fatigue:p :D

moose53 05-24-2007 09:43 PM

Oh my goodness, ((((((Greta)))))).

I just had to see where this was going http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v9.../killingme.gif

I won't tell about your frying pan if you don't tell anyone that my smallest kitty has a taste for fur -- he likes to eat the fur off the carpet -- saves on vacuuming :D

Heck, I figure, if we can kiss our doggies and kitties, we can certainly share cookware with them :p

Hugs.

Barb

SallyC 05-24-2007 10:01 PM

Do You mean that everyone with a furbaby doesn't do this?? I'm shocked..ROFL!!

Of course I do sanitize them in the dishwasher, then. That's what I tell my guests, anyway.:D

AfterMyNap 05-25-2007 09:47 AM

note to self: do not partake of meals in the homes of MSrs... or dogs!

LMAO, Gret! I thought that's why people keep creatures to begin with!

Nancy T 05-25-2007 07:41 PM

Why NOT let the doggies help out? I'm sure they were very happy to do it!

Want to talk about pets' gross eating habits? I have one cat who often throws up just after eating, and another one (now deceased) who, whenever she heard the ralphing, would slowly hoist herself up off the rug, lumber over to the scene, and clean it up for me--although I did always try to beat her to it, just on general principles.

Nancy T.

greta 05-25-2007 07:48 PM

I'm about to cry. I feel like I'm at Cheers Bar - where everybody knows your name (or at least everybody else is as stupid about pets as I am).

Sally - your post reminded me of when my grandmother came to visit. The cat would hop up on the counter and my mom would shoo her off proclaiming loudly, "I don't know why she thinks she can walk on the counter!" Poor cat, as soon as g-ma left, it was business as usual!

kami 05-25-2007 09:17 PM

My ex would be flipping out!!! He fathered Mr Clean. But even he fed our big old Siamese from the kettle when we finished our scampi spagetti sauce. (shrimp, egg, heavy cream and brandy with a little red sauce). Too good to waste:D

We didn't use to let the cats walk on the dining room table, the kitchen table, or the kitchen counters. We would indignantly shoo them off.

This despite the fact that we'd find cat hair, cat litter, and cat throw-up in all three places, and get up in the night to find them sleeping on the table. We knew they were doing it but pretended we were upholding some principle anyway.

When the four old cats died, a new cat arrived and did whatever she pleased at any time of day. First we let her get away with walking all over the dining room table (since we rarely use it for eating). Then we stopped caring about the kitchen table, since we only use part of it for eating.

I still don't "let" her walk around the kitchen counters. But I knew that was futile on the day I saw her tracking the neighbor's tomcat from our dining room table. When he moved out of sight toward the back yard, she immediately raced into the kitchen and sprang up on the divider between the sinks so she could see out the kitchen window, as if she'd done it a million times.

Sigh. The animals have won before the contest even started! Bless their cute little hearts.

The remaining old kitty finds it very amusing that she, too, is now allowed to walk around on the table with impunity, after years of being shooed off.

tovaxin_lab_rat 05-26-2007 04:33 PM

I've been to Greta's house. I have slept at Greta's house. I have eaten at Greta's house. I have danced at Greta's house. (wanna see pictures?) I have even gotten semi-drunk (?) at Greta's house. (wanna see more pictures???) I am still alive.

Luke (#1 Greyhound) is a very clean dog. Now Yodda, on the other hand, I would question Yodda's cleaning habits.

Oh yes, this is Cheers alright. When Greta walks in, everyone should say "Hi Greta!" Where's the frying pan today?

Greta has a very nice kitchen. ;)

AfterMyNap 05-26-2007 04:44 PM

You know, as I think on it, I guess it's better to let your dog do the dishes than to let your dishes do the dog.

shiney sue 05-26-2007 04:55 PM

Hi PNer here

Saw this and had to laugh, last week (i think) we were listing what
pain can cause. It was getting on the sad side. And blam laughter,
same thing was said. Answer what you tooo. Alot thought if you put
them in dishwasher after,of course if your in pain and don't tell anyone.
Thanks for the laughter it always helps me. And Nancy T do we live in
the same house and not know it??Those cats have a mind of there own.

   Sue :D

ewizabeth 05-26-2007 07:50 PM

:D Bet you didn't need to scour the pan, eh Greta? ;)

Rocky, our new kitten is dozing on my lap. Oops, I see litter on the dining room table, I better get to that after his nap and his massage and play session. :winky:

yeahbut 05-27-2007 05:16 PM

LOL - Greta - we eat dinner, put the plates and any other dishes that need a pre-wash on the floor and let the dogs clean them up - Then they go into the dish washer. But while I am filling the dish washer they are still lapping the dishes -

I know one of these day I am going to have to take one to the ER Vet because one of them have cut their tongue on a knife from lapping it!

I've got one of those!! He had a near death experience in March and now he can do whatever he wants!

Them are fighting words, DH will not be happy. I would like to point out that all three of my monsters are all equal opportunity lickers. If it's gross, or a body part - they will likely lick it.

Yes, but she didn't have MS before she came to my house and ate off the slimy dog-sanitized dishes...As a matter of fact, I didn't get MS until we got Chipper. That's it - it's Chipper's fault. I knew there was a reason that we didn't like him as much as the other dogs. (just kidding - except for the part about not liking Chipper as much...)

I hear you. Yoda spends quite a bit of time trying to lick the dishes as I'm loading. At least my dogs think I'm an excellent cook.:D

Now that's not true. I had MS before I visited you. I just didn't have this creeping crud I can't seem to get rid of!

Chipper's fault? Poor Chipper (he does have very bad breath!)

Taffy 05-27-2007 07:38 PM

Taffy says, "Greta? Is this frying pan clean?"

Greta replies, "As clean as Soap and Water can get it! Here Soap....Here Water!"

Oh I let my dag lick my plate clean too!:yikes:

moose53 05-27-2007 07:55 PM

It's so great to be surrounded by my fellow fur-peeps!!

OK, all this confessin' finally got me to admit:

Only trouble with cats is that they're picky. Now dogs, they'll eat anything!

I have to clarify that with "anything, as long as it's human food".

Not necessarily Sally. My dogs, and in fact, all the neighborhood dogs, wander over to the neighbor's horse pasture and graze (and I don't mean on the grass!).

:D I was going to add..as long as it's human food or dog poop..a little regurgitated cuisine is usually part of the doggy menu, as well.

As if Morning sickness (which isn't just in the mornings) weren't enough!:OuttaHere: I think I'll leave this post for you pet owners for now.

Perhaps a cracker icon before the thread would help?;)

greta 05-28-2007 05:55 PM

For the second day in a row, I left the pantry door open. Doh!

I can always tell I've done it - because Yoda looks much wider. Pug-Pig - now she'll keep me up all night again wanting to go out...

Middle of last night she came downstairs. I knew something was up when she came back with ketchup breath. Little monster licked the ketchup off a plate on my desk.

Note to self - quit being a lazy slob and do the dishes yourself!!

Nancy T 05-28-2007 10:51 PM

Once I've got my breakfast cereal on the table, I don't dare get up--in five seconds, my cat is drinking the milk out of the bowl. If I have to get up and go to the bathroom in the middle of breakfast, my cereal goes with me.

She really likes to dine with me. If I'm eating yogurt or ice cream, she'll be sitting on my lap licking sweet finger-dips off my pinkie. At dinner in front of the TV, she eats bits of fish or veggie off the TV guide. If I get up in the night to take Advil and eat a couple of graham crackers with it, I have to hold a little piece of cracker up for her to lick a big crescent out of. (No, I don't eat the remainder!)

Heck, I don't blame the puppies and kitties for wanting to have a little variety in their diet! Don't tell my vet!!

Nancy T.

It's your home and your life, so I wouldn't feel bad about the dogs.

We have had people come to our home that do not like animals. My DH says, " our dogs are part of the family, if you don't like them, then don't visit!"

My dog, a toy poodle licks the plates and anything else she can reach when the dishwasher is open. (no pre-rinse needed):D

FlyFishin Momma 05-30-2007 08:50 PM

I used to have a min pin who would lick the water off the clean dishes in the diswasher.....My ex hated it....so I told him if he didnt want it to happen that he should grab a towel and dry them as soon as I open the dishwasher door lol lol......guess that was one way to get his help with "something".......

No inside pets now.......do good to take care of the ones outdoors lol

prettypearlgirl 05-31-2007 10:42 PM

EEEEEEWWWWWWWWWWW:eek: Did you know it's an old wives tale that dogs mouths are cleaner than humans mouths. Remind me to never eat at dog owners homes!!

You could be right. After all, we had that horrible first bottle of wine - oh yeah never mind, we poured that one down the drain it was so nasty tasting - was that one from NC? And then we drank that great stuff from some foreign country, and then we started on some other stuff. Shoot, we could have eaten off the floor for all I remember!

But I have pictures. Maybe I will have to look!

Ah-ha - here's greta's table - clean! :p
