Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
And I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here

Thanks to y'all here, Steve, Mari, waves, et al . . .
For this thread. It's been the single connection for me with others this weekend in acknowledging this Summer Solstice.

Loved the Here Comes The Sun reminder with lyrics, Mari. How perfect.

Much appreciation and the best Summer to you one and all. :grouphug:

waves 06-23-2014 12:16 AM

YW... glad you like it. :)

Yeahh, I am pretty clueless about how cold it actually gets where you are.

Where I grew up "winter" meant you got to open the cardigan drawer every so often. :D

Average Max Winter temp. in the area where I live is around 20C / 68F
Yearly average of sunshine per day - 7 hours.

I'm not complaining.
I know it's cool when I need socks.

Nice! I could deal with that. Maybe. I've beccome unused to heat the past decade here. I used to tolerate it well. It might have been the weight gain.... wee'll see this year because I've lost a lot of it.

Nice average high temperature there, Lara. Sounds good.
It has barely managed to get above 60F for Summer Solstice here.

So are your average winter low temps like 45F or so? Winter winds?

Love that line, "I know it's cool when I need socks." ;)

Wishing you a good and healthful Winter, Lara.

Lara 06-23-2014 07:49 PM

Thanks waves and thank you Theta. I was thinking about you when I wrote that post showing our warm winter weather.

Mean minimum temp for July and August are around 48F to 51F.
By September it's hot again and will be for the next 9 months.

June is around 52F. (had to look up those conversions).

Technically our Australian Winter starts June 1st.

August we get westerly winds that bring a chill to the air for a week or so.

I'm in sub-tropical zone so it's totally different down south.
[p.s. summer typically wet. winter typically dry]
I think some parts of the highlands down in other States are having a blizzard as I type.

[edited to add: Just read a surf report for South Australia "The South Australian coast is getting hammered this morning. At 6am the Cape de Coudeic buoy - just off Kangaroo Island - hit a max wave height of 15 metres. That's just shy of 50 feet in the old scale."

My mango tree is flowering. I don't know what's up with that but it was a very long hot summer and it's only been the past couple of weeks that it's cooled down. The surfers are still out in the surf. I swam in July one year but I think I got hypothermia. I had a headache that made me think I was going to die.

Hi, Lara,

I love your beach cam

Your weather sounds a bit wacky even for what we know about your place -- mango trees flowering without checking with the gods of weather.

That is high surf!!!
I am going to look for pictures of the Cape de Coudeic buoy episode.
