not doing well

i don't know what happened but cecilia stopped ringing my bell to go for walks.
i wrote her to ask if she just preferred going to central park and that i understood. what a gap it leaves in my small life. i can't yet seem to force myself to take a walk by myself.
my rent is also going up significantly. i made the decision and i hope it was the right one. before it was frozen but i was afraid down the way i would go above the income level because i have to start using my annuity. I finally sold some stock.
I have also been getting stomach aches and a lot of times i feel dizzy and have loss of balance after getting up.It doesn't happen all the time but it happens with frequency.
tomorrow i hope to force myself to go to a chabad class for over fifties. the rabbi is said to be very wise.I am not good with change. my world has gotten so small.

Oh Bobby,

I'm so sorry about Cecilia... did she answer you to let you know what was up?

The feeling dizzy and losing balance when you get up sounds like orthostatic hypotension -- a transient, rapid drop in blood pressure that happens with rapid change in posture, usually when getting up too fast. Be cautious to sit up/ stand up very slowly -- we don't want you falling.

A doctor should check to make sure nothing else is going on. Also, I think you are taking bp meds also, right? It's possible the dosage simply needs adjustment (up OR down), and this would be important, so do please call the doctor.

The rabbi sounds wonderful. I had to google "Chabad" ==>

Bobby, right after they take your BP stand up and take it again. When dh is sitting it was fine, he stood up and it dropped...even though he complained of stress and freaked out, it was actually dropping.
He didn't feel well either right before his TIA, that and the off feeling standing we learned were signs of the TIA. (He does take BP med since this?)
Hope it is nothing but a bug or stress but keep a eye.
Gosh on the doctors last week I saw they said to take ...brain fog, not bran, a roughage , dang brain!, every morning because if under stress it messes with nerves in intestines and make you feel better.

Exactly. The one reading sitting doesn't check for orthostatic hypotension. It takes comparative readings.

That's consistent with orthostatic hypotension. The dizziness is a consequence which doesn't happen right away... and need not happen consistently. When I had it, like I would get up, go to the kitchen, be getting something out of the counter, and then I'd feel dizzy and weak ==> BP drop. Then it restores itself. Often but not always I'd also have vision go black for a couple secs. Once I fell on the floor, when it came on really suddenly -- I was 20 so even if I'd cracked my butt-bone then I would have healed ok ... at our ages I am a little more uptight about falls.

This always needs to be reported to a doc if the cause is unknown, but it's even more important when on BP meds. During the summer, if there are dietary changes, or if other precipitating conditions change, the meds can have a greater effect than desired.

Has it happened in the past week? If it has not happened again, you can probably ignore it at this point. But if it has happened, call the doctor and just see if he wants you to go in.

In the meantime, if it is still happening, try getting up very slowly and not doing anything too vigorous (walking, raising arms) in the first couple minutes after getting up.

thanks...will do that with the bp. i am not sure if you mean to take it sitting down and then standing. I will try both.
I didn't understand the last part of your message about brain fog. i suffer from constipation and i thought it was because of welbutrin. what a pain and worry.
thanks again
bobby

mymorgy 07-05-2014 09:38 AM

I will take your advice. I usually get up slowly anyways to lift myself up off the futon. I have to use my hands on the floor to do it.
I haven't had it in the past week i don't think. I keep waiting for it to occur but it hasn't. I still feel stressed about cecilia and not walking which i have to force myself to do. I do enjoy spending more time in bed in the morning though.....lazy? I am still obsessing about selling the stock and having my rent go up about 250 a month. I am definitely looking forward to wednesday when i hope to meet the rabbi. I will try to find out what parsha he will be reading by checking on the net. Last week's was on the net.
If i have TIA i wonder what i can do. I am trying to lose weight but i am three pounds over my low weight which is quite heavy. I started eating more salads. I plan to go to the senior center all the time because of my isolation.

i took my bp a few times on a cheap monitor and it jumped around a bit. the second number was usually 60 but before it was 80. I don't know if it was because of the cheap machine or what.

i haven't had them in a week i think and they didn't last long. if it persists when i see the doctor i will tell him. the lower number has been 60 today but it is usually 80. I tried to look it up but had trouble finding out about the difference.

Bobby,

It's normal to have differences between readings taken at different times of the day, or different days.

According to this, dehydration can cause orthostatic hypotension:

http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...s/con-20031255

Maybe you got a bit low on fluid for a few days? Lower blood volume would also explain a lower-but-normal diastolic reading (the 60, as opposed to 80).

60 is considered marginal, btw -- I just double checked -- meaning loweer than that is considered hypotension. Make sure to get enough fluids.

If it dosn't happen again, not to worry. If it does, call the doctor.

love
waves.

I am glad it hasn't happened again. Could well be just liquids. I am glad you have a home bp monitor too, so you can check things once in a while. My father charts his. We have a few charts that he/I made... just different layouts. If you want to do that, I can send you a chart, lol. :D

I understand, I stay undressed mostly unless I need to go out. I am trying to get dressed more lately, as well. I think it gets one more into the mentality of doing things. So yes, do try it could help with depression. If you get one of those days though, where you just really need to curl up in bed and feel safe, it's ok, you know. Don't sweat it.
