why do I get internal tremors in head and body up on waking

has this happened to anyone else or should I be in another chat room lol. It was caused by head injury and doctors can't seem to find the reason. All tests have come back negative except for one test that shows some damage to cerebellum. Anyone take any medicine for this. It starts my day and a terrible way and I just can't get started afterwards I'm afraid to fall asleep

Sitke 07-02-2014 09:52 PM

Every single night as I'm almost asleep I get a weird feeling, hard to describe but it feels like the inside of my body is shaking, I suddenly feel really scared and the only way to stop it is to get out of bed and walk around.

Got a message from another poster who experiences the same thing and a Dr told her it was from the brain being injured, like a surge of adrenalin.

I can find no answer though to what's happening, it never happens during the day, always at night and usually when I'm drifting off to sleep.

I too dread going to sleep, I know that doesn't help but it's hard so I try to really relax, take a bath etc. nothing is stopping it.

Interesting you have it also but when coming out of sleep.

anon1028 07-02-2014 10:06 PM

I dread gong to sleep too. it terrified me upon waking. need an answer and so do you. sleep s important and it sets the tone for the rest of the day. I see doctor on Tuesday and let you know what he says. I get bad pain where spine meets brain I wonder if that has anything to do with it

I do this, too. The full body tremor, at the moment of falling asleep, is a recognized symptom of brain injury. You can't control it, so try not to beat yourself up over it.

Sitke 07-03-2014 04:41 PM

I hope you get an answer on Tuesday and yes please! let us know.

Have you injured your neck at all? I had severe whiplash and have a herniated disc at C7-T1.

If your neck is bothering you definitely let the Dr know.

This is terrifying I know, at night I can read in bed just fine, it's when I'm just about to fall asleep, I start shaking inside all over, you can't control it and I can also sometimes see my body shaking.

What stops yours? When you start walking does it subside?

I'm also having some kind of "spells" going on, one Dr thought some kind of seizure, another maybe complex migraines as they are very similar but my brain shifts sometimes and I feel like I'm in a dream, everything slows down for a few mins and as my daughter told me I stare like a deer in headlights, very scary too.

Are you having anything else going on? hope you're okay today.

Hockey: thank you for the info, been trying to research this and can't find anything other than the other person saying it's a brain injury.

Mark: I just read your heading again and it says head tremors which I hadn't seen so I didn't mention I also get those, my head/brain feels like it's moving, hard to explain but it's inside and lately my head twitches to one side, like a hard tick.

I wake up and I'm a mess lol. A little confused add your tated internal trim is in head that go through my body and actually I just lay there until they stop in a few minutes and when I get up and they are gone. I am afraid that one day they won't go away.I have had these problems for 7 years since my incident and I am going to tell my doctor who is new and good then I need help because I can't do this anymore. I have many other symptoms like sharp pain in the back of their head upon waking shooting pain in two arms and shoulders that burns insomnia vivid dreams feels like a band around my headtinnitusand others. I hate to say this but knowing that there is someone else out there like me give me some comfort not because you're suffering but because we can make a connection.

Sitke 07-03-2014 07:10 PM

I'm so sorry you've been suffering a long time, shoot...my accident was early last year and I have said I can't live like this then I try to think positive but at times it's difficult, so I completely understand.

Have you ever seen a neurologist or any other specialist? I think you really need to be seen, there's obviously at least a few things going on, maybe some are connected to each other.

My old Dr was ridiculous, I kept saying I was in horrendous pain and was told it all takes time then things got even worse so it's so frustrating.

I get pain/tingling/burning in my left arm and 2 fingers and that's coming from the cervical herniated disc, neck problems can also cause shoulder pain.

Yes, I'd definitely talk to your new Dr. let him/her know everything that's going on, I have to write it all down as I forget :) honestly when I changed Dr's I let her know how much I was suffering and for how long and she ordered tests, I was thinking I'm not going to move until something was going to be done!

I hope you can have some kind of relief over the holiday weekend, I read every single night in bed, stay very calm, try to drift off to sleep and wham! those tremors!!! I hear you on all of it.

Take care of yourself and if you can, please let us know how the appt goes, good luck and hang in there, you're not alone.

Sitke 07-03-2014 07:17 PM

Mark: Shoot on down to the Posttraumatic Stress disorder forum and look at the post by Pepper, "Is this PTSD"

They are talking about these weird feelings we get, either falling asleep or waking up.

Same thing happens to me! annoys me!!

I keep asking about it and neuro cannot figure it out

Hockey 07-03-2014 10:19 PM

Do those of you experiencing full body shudders also have an exaggerated startle response? Those two often go together in TBI patients.

dontforgetusername 07-04-2014 04:25 AM

Get a sleep study done. You could be depriving yourself of oxygen. I don't breathe when I sleep. No solutions yet... I just don't sleep much; close my eyes and try not to pass out; I get "rest" but generally can't sleep. I slept "last night" from 2 to 4. I "woke up" passing out... then started to breathe again. Now I'm up... decided its time to join neuro talk forum... this is my second? third? post.

Yes, sleep apnea can be a problem for TBI patients.

Yes... but all of this did not start until about 4.5 months in...

anon81114 07-04-2014 09:12 AM

I had this after my first concussion a few times but a lot during a few weeks after my second concussion. I would wake up with my whole body tremoring on the inside very strongly, and I felt like I was paralyzed, between sleep and waking up.

I also had times when my body would numb and tingle on half sides at a time, divided perfectly in the middle, it would switch every few hours for a week or so.
Doctors said it was anxiety..yeah right!

But the worst was on some days I woke up with this intense tingling/buzzing litterally shooting down from the lower part of the back of my skull down through my neck. I think it was due to my whiplash, but it felt like it came from my brain..hmm. It thankfully dissapeared and has not come back.

Now I get tremors only when I am very stressed, but those are the good kind of temors that releases stress from muscles so those I just enjoy! The Trauma Releasing Exercise-kind of tremors! :)

Sitke 07-04-2014 03:48 PM

It's interesting because I can take a nap during the day and fall asleep without this happening, something to do with the night??

But then Mark has them waking up, so...from waking up and others when falling asleep, how do we stop it!!?? it's an awful feeling.

I never get a full nights sleep, and thinking about it when I get up several times during the night, I stand up and then feel my breathing is off, does anyone get this too?

Hope you are ok today Mark and everyone, Happy 4th!

I got my first tremor today morning. I was **** scared and immediately realised something is going on with me and it's not an earthquake. I stick my fingers in my ears and I could hear the tremors in my head. I am frustrated that something new pops up every now and then.

Bruins88 07-05-2014 09:12 AM

Im not sure if im experiencing the same thing. But whenever im about to fall asleep I get a quick full body twitch, like im startled. Then I get a weird, almost like a pins and needle feeling, inside my head. But it moves around, almost like someone is massaging your head. Its weird, but its been ever night since the injury.

Also, hows your startled response? I get startled extremely easy now, not sure if thats part of it all though.

willgardner 07-12-2014 02:17 PM

I get that shaky feeling (the inside of my body is shaking). When it is worse, I feel like I am having a seizure(my body wants to have a seizure but am not).I feel that my eyes want to roll back and my body wants to shake, but they don't . For me for about 9 months, I got this shaky feeling when I was hungry. I no longer felt the actual hunger, but I would notice this feeling and if I ate it went away. now it comes at random times or when I am full. It could be a correlation, but mostly it is when I am almost done eating I get this shaky feeling. No doctor has been able to figure it out and I had not got any feedback from doctors on this yet. I am relieved that I am not alone and to know that this is a symptom of my brain injury.

damboyz1 12-18-2014 02:01 PM

yes I get startled very easily especially when im trying to fall asleep any noise will make heart jump. along with tremors when getting up.

DannyT 12-20-2014 01:06 PM

I've been experiencing muscle twitches and hand tremors since my concussion in October. I notice that they have gotten better but are definitely worsened by stress and anxiety. They seem to have improved over time but I still feel them pretty bad as I'm trying to fall asleep or if I'm trying to hold still.

It's good to know that other people are experiencing this as a symptom of PCS, because it is a terrifying experience. Most likely relaxation techniques would be helpful for all of us. I believe reducing anxiety associated with PCS is the true first step towards recovery. Easier said than done.

Galaxy1012 12-21-2014 12:30 AM

I had these head and body tremors started after about 6 months. It started after I took my first dose of notriptyline antidepressant. I still get them in my semi sleep state upon waking up but these have become far and few in between now. Maybe all this is a part of recovery?

DannyT 12-21-2014 01:37 AM

I find it amazing how quickly medical professionals will throw tricyclic antidepressants like nortriptyline at people who just suffered traumatic brain injuries without a second thought. Granted there is some benefit to them in that they can be used to treat migraines but their side effects are documented and plentiful.

It seems the accepted course of treatment for PCS is targeting symptoms, instead of targeting the source of the problems. The truth is there is no treatment for PCS. I, myself, was prescribed amitriptyline to aid in my sleep and for the headaches and noticed an increase in the tremors. It shows you that it really is a big money game for the pharmaceutical companies.

Mark in Idaho 12-21-2014 04:55 PM

Amitriptyline, being generic, has long not been a BigPharma money game. It just happens to help some with insomnia and head aches.

I take gabapentin to help my body let go so I can sleep without muscle tension and tremors/body jerks.

SweetC 12-28-2014 04:53 PM

Shaking brain

I have noticed I get what I can best describe as a shaky brain and a shaky feeling within my body when I'm overtired or overloaded. It's a very strange sensation and I take it as a cue to lay down and do nothing if I can. Would you guys call these tremors?

DannyT 12-28-2014 09:29 PM

Sweet,

It sounds similar to what I am experiencing. I notice a shaking feeling in my head, complete with my head bobbing up and down and it gets worse before bed. I think I just have more time to think about it and notice it. I call it a tremor.

Bud 12-28-2014 10:07 PM

SweetC,

I call it a weird feeling...it happens to me for the same reasons as you mention.

I don't know how to describe it to my wife so I call it that "weird feeling".I notice it first in my head and within 5 minutes or so it settles over my body and I get weak feeling and somewhat disoriented. Rest settles it down.

Bud

I have the same symptoms mostly always laying down and usually right when drifting off to sleep or awaking from sleep. It is strange and I get a weird sensation in my head then body shakes and sometimes night sweats. It awakens me out of my dosing off to sleep and I too then get nervous about what's going on.

The only info I can find on anything remotely close to what it sounds like we are all experiencing is :

http://synapse.org.au/get-the-facts/...act-sheet.aspx

I see my doc tomorrow to ask him. I asked my Neurologist and he just said post concussive migraines which I didn't quite agree with as they are not necessarily a headache.

I have gotten used to them and feel that there is nothing to be scared of. If I find out more I'll let you all know! Good luck and good sleeping!

Here's another website describing sympathetic storms.

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/469858

Has anyone actually had a diagnosis of this and is it similar to what I and it seems others are going through?
