Headache and swooshing when sleeping

I awake at night several times a week with a severe headache and can hear a loud swooshing sound in my head. When I close my eyes tightly the sound slightly diminishes each time I close my eyes until it is a mild swooshing sound. I have had an MRI and they said they could see nothing wrong. The headaches are so severe they wake me from a deep sleep. I am at a loss. Anyone experience something similar or have a clue what could be happening to me?

When I was a young girl I was was hit in the temple and knocked unconscious, but nothing since then besides the occasional small every day stuff like hitting your head when you get in the car. I have had these symptoms for only about a 8 to 10 months.

why don't you throw your question in the traumatic brain injury room anyway and let them know how long ago the injury was even if it was years ago and let them know your symptoms?even if it is not from the head injury people in there are knowledgeable about things about the head

Do you have any other symptoms at all, even if you think they are unrelated, they might be related?

Desk job, repetitive motion, any arm, hand or wrist problems, back or neck strain?

I had whooshing when my neck muscles were in severe spasms due to RSI/TOS work injury.

I had that before but I had a head injury and that's what I'm thinking it's from I get bad head aches and pains and stuff like that I was told I have post concussion syndrome so that could be what you are facing! Rest and low activity is what they say to do...

Have you seen a specialist?

Hi Islandbound,

Welcome to NeuroTalk! :D

Did a specialist order the MRI?
Have you seen an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist?

There are several known potential causes of this sound and the co-occurring headaches. This sound may or may not be a form of tinnitus. This sound and headache may or may not indicate a vascular/circulatory issue, with various types of underlying causes.

A specialist will most likely know which conditions to consider, which to rule-out, and which tests/scans are needed to complete a full work-up. Sometimes, additional scans ( other than an MRI) are indicated.

Do you take your blood pressure and/or pulse readings during these episodes?
Do you keep your body adequately hydrated via liquid intake?

Might you consider keeping notes/diary which outlines when you have these symptoms, how often, while noting any other correlations?

I hope you find answers and relief soon.

Again, welcome to NeuroTalk. Hope to see you around the forums. :)
