Forum very slow -- are there problems?
 

Hello,

I've been noticing the forum loads pages very slowly. It hiccups badly on the images. Today was very bad. It seems to be getting worse. Other sites load normally.

Has anyoone else noticed this?

Are there known problems?

Yes I have noticed it, I thought it was my Internet being slow for awhile, but other sites seem to load normally for me..

I don't know any specifics about it, probably just a temporary thing..

yes emoticons page wouldn't load all of the way and I got locked out just copying and pasting a word. If that makes sense. thankfullly later I was able to log in just fine.

I've noticed the slowness for a few days now. Today has seemed worse than before. I guess we'll see.

can you paste the error message here, or send it to DocJohn? Might help shed some light on the problem area.

We had to deal with two denial of service attacks yesterday against our community server. The authorities have been contacted. All services are running normally except for those two brief periods yesterday.

My pages are loading very slowly still......

Me three, when I am lucky enough to get the page. I had to retry bunches of times to get this post window, but at least I got it.

Apparently some DoS attack is still ongoing... and successful on me anyway. :(

The speed seems reliably normal for me too. A little slow but not abnormally.

I am still having problems with images. I don't know if that is NT or me/some node in between. Get status on some gets, esp. image ones, gives a 502 "Bad Gateway" (those gets fail -- alt text remains displayed, image is not loaded). I'm just tossing it out, because Bizi also saw the image loading problem yesterday with the other stuff going on.

For now I am going to assume it is me and profile other sites to test that theory.

yes I am back up to normal speed here too :)

It's working really fast now.

I've just spent 4 hours on and off trying to get the site to load.

When I did finally log in a couple of times, there were no icons and I couldn't post at all. It just timed out.

That's three of us, but wow you are also having general load problems. I saw the icon issue when loading was slow as well, but am still seeing it now that it loads "fine", as is Bizi.

I mentioned this before but wasn't very clear. Also it was just me, now it isn't.

I run a dev console which shows me some of the network messaging. It's not a spiffy as say WireShark, but shows some basics for debugging purposes.

The GET messages associated with the image loading failures return a status of 502 -- Bad Gateway. This is a server response coming back. I am by no means an expert on these things but I don't see that this could be releated to Bizi's and Lara's and my computer specifically.

This happens even when pages load at normal speed. It doesn't happen systematically, and isn't conspicuous except with smilies -- advanced post page, sometimes, but especially in the more smilies page:

These 502 responses come from ntf2.psychcentral.com. The problem is INTERMITTENT. Happens more at certain times, less or not at all at others.

I didn't see any more of the image-fetching problems, all of today. Nor any other glitches.
