Help!!! Constant burning PAIN

I am hoping that someone may be able to help me. For the past week I am expieriencing constant burning pain in my head. If I move even slightly, it intensifies. It got so bad, that I wasnt able to eat, vomiting, stomach pain, and now chest pain. On Tuesday I went to the ER (doc orders), my heart rate was 133, it hurt (burned) to breathe deeply. The burning pain in my head was so horrific. Ekg, blood, urine and Cat scan all normal. They gave me steroids, fluids and a few things for pain...nothing worked. Gave me Staydol(sp?) that made me sleepy and freaky dreams. They basically said sorry we cant help you call your doc in the morning. They did give me Tylenol w codiene and zofran Rx. Called my neuro the next day, and I was told to keep taking the meds and see if we can break this cycle. NOTHING is helping!!!!

Am I crazy to think doctors are suppsed to help you? I dont know what to do.

Is this some new weird MS thing? Migraine? Help please.

Diagnosed w/ MS over 11 years ago. Fibro, Osteopenia, degenerative disc?. On Rebif, Baclophen, tramadol, Pristiq, nexium, provigil, etc.

Hi Motors Mommy,

I am sorry you are in so much pain

Have you or your Drs. considered one of your medications as the cause? Just looking at Pristiq there is a listed side effect "pain, burning, numbness, or tingling in part of the body" http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/d...s/a608022.html

Just a thought as it is easy to assume MS is the cause for our symptoms when it can actually be due to medications or something unrelated. Although sometimes it is, unfortunately, MS :(

I hope they find out what is causing this and you are better soon.

i'm sorry you're suffering with so much pain.
sometimes when drs don't know they just pass you off instead of investigating and diagnosing. but MS is a tricky disease and finding answers is difficult.

i'd make an appt with your neuro. don't stop advocating for yourself. go in with your top 3 problems. when you're there in person the dr may offer more help.
try to take someone with you.

also, you might consider going to your pcp. sometimes they will come up with other solutions. i wonder if your pain is neuropathic. neurontin and lyrica can help with that. sometimes you can't help MS but only the symptoms it presents.

i hope you will feel better soon. let us know how you are.

i had 1 more thought rereading your post.
provigil is a stimulant. it helps fight fatigue. that may make your heart race, similar to caffeine. you might try skipping some doses and see it it helps.

Oh that sounds painful! How are you feeling now? I hope they can figure out what is causing the pain and treat it.

Something to consider is giving a med called Gabapentin a trial. I was having terrible burning pain in my legs that opioids wouldn't touch, when a neurologist at Mayo put me on Gabapentin. It worked! You do have to be cautious with the dosage, since it has to be excreted through the kidneys.

Best of luck!

The pain is still here. Just trying to get used to it. Left several messages for my neuro (out of town). Dont think its as bad? Unless I raise my voice, get stressed, move...lol.

Numbness/Tingling in parts of face, arms etc. Excruciating bone breaking pain in legs/feet today. But the weather is changing, gonna rain.

Wondering out loud: Could any or all of this be a neck or back problem? Arthritis?

Will call pcp next week, since my throat/ear are starting to hurt. Maybe he has an idea. Guess I'll also check with my chiropractor.

THanks!!!!!!!

i hope you're not getting a cold or something. that process may make your body hurt.

i agree with calling your pcp. try to make an appt as early in the wk as possible. even getting a cancellation appt may help. let us know please.

I do have an appointment for Wednesday - the first possible, since my PCP is never in the office on Tuesdays. I'll be sure to let you know the results of the appointment.

Thanks, NurseNancy! :)

UPDATE: Couldnt get an appt w family doctor til this Monday.

Meanwhile, I called neuro again and told the Rn that I was really frustrated and felt like neuro was abandoning me. Told them if they cant help me, refer me somewhere. The Rn called me back and said the doctor wants to increase Gabapentin (but they had no clue what dosage I was on) ???
and wants me to go to PT.

Will let you know what family doc says.
