oh, you guys are the bestest buds.
i got home this past thurs and have been in a fog. today was the 1st day i felt "together", if that makes sense. i was in the hosp and rehab for 3 wks. the rehab place was very good. everyone, including me, was surprised at how well i did and how fast i progressed. the pain is manageable. this wk i see several drs and have a lot of help from neighbors. God bless them for offering their time. i can't bend at the waist yet. if i sit or stand too long i really feel it. my recliner is my best friend. it's work to take care of myself and have meals etc but i planned well before the surgery so have lots of meals in the freezer. every day gets easier. i'm sleeping well. lots of "stories" from the hosp etc. some of the staff probably hated me and i knew all the directors of nursing because i was very assertive and vocal when things were done wrong. i swore that i would not get a hospital borne infection like my dad did (MRSA); he died from it. so any breech in technique i dealt with. like the aide who tried to "clean" my tv remote that i dropped on the floor with a tissue. no one knew of any cleaning agent. what the heck did they do when they dropped things on the floor? a blank stare. they had to do into the supervisor's office to find some lysol wipes. needless to say my friends brought me a big supply the next day. my God, these are common sense things any 6 y/o should know. did i say i was very vocal?????? but thanks for your wishes. i'm doing well and will keep you posted. |
Glad you are home and healing.
Don't tell me about coming home from the hosp with an infection!!!! Germiest place on the planet. Even if they cure you, they could end up killing you. I pray you will heal fast and feel your old good self again, in no time. |
Judy!! I was so happy to see your post. I've been keeping you in my prayers.
I'm glad to hear you are healing well and now finally home. It's so sweet of your neighbors to help you out. You are very fortunate to have that. I'm surprised they didn't have wipes in the room. I would have freaked if that happened to me. I'm proud of you for being vocal and saying something. Hopefully, they will change their protocols. Continue with the healing and check in when you can. |
Glad you're home and on the mend...
we have to be our own strong advocates when dealing with the health care industry. Good for you, girl, for being assertive!! It is a great reminder to all of us especially in these scary times of super bugs. Rest now and just check in once in a while:hug: |
talk about infection....i'm following the news about this 2nd ebola dx on a 2nd nurse that took care of mr. duncan in texas. i hate to say it but the cat is certainly out of the bag. i believe we will see a cascading effect of exposure and more people will present with ebola.
my personal opinion is that we should not allow anyone in an affected area of the world to fly into the USA. we should take every precaution now to stop the spread of disease. in the US now it's a bit of too little too late. what do you all think? |
Be careful out there in Big "T", these days..

JUdy,
So glad to read you are home safe and sound & on the mend. Heal well and quickly!!! note to self: add Lysol wipes to hospital bag checklist... |
I'm so glad you are ok after your surgery Judy!!:)
This whole ebola thing is sure a huge problem! I'm hoping they can get it under control but with hospitals already having problems keeping up with everything I wonder how they can control this too? We're flying to Jamaica in January and I might just need a whole body mask before leaving. Sheesh! |
i saw my pcp yesterday and asked me if i knew they had put in an IVC in my inferior vena cava. i said what?????
i had a copy of the operative note and it said that the cardiac surgeon put a filter in the IVC to prevent any clots from going to my brain. i still don't understand why. the note said he discussed it with me. i don't remember anything about that. and my friend who i brought for a 2nd pair of ears didn't remember it either. plus, the note says that it should be removed in 6 mos. so now, that dr has moved out of the state and there is someone in another practice taking his place. i did see this dr post op to see the incision and he never mentioned it. so i've made an appt (that may not be covered by insurance) to see him in Nov. that's what i mean when i always say get a copy of the dr's notes. i'm really ticked off. my main Q is how do they take this filter out? they put it in thru the groin vein. and, it's not without side effects. no hospitalization is without surprises. i didn't expect one this big. |
Holy carp!! Good thing you are such a good health care consumer. I'd take them to task for this one...
Glad you're home and on the mend... |
