Benefits
of exercise on PN in general and PN pain are being recognized more widely in the medical community. Hopefully, they'll catch up with much of the forum wisdom at some point. In any case I saw this recent article from Shields' group in the rehabilitation department at the Univ of Iowa and thought it might be of some interest. The article is very general so it's not as "in depth" as the earlier ones from Smith's group at Utah about diet and exercise and prediabetic PN but Shields does note that for some patients the improvement in their pain was comparable to that seens in some drug trials that have been noted as beneficial - most encouraging.

I loved the 'signs you've over done'....
Parts....after 30 MINUTES OF EXERCISE? Hah....with some things I'm lucky to do five or ten before having pay-backs...
Goodness, folks...Did someone read all my posts and 're-write' them? But it's all been proven, tested, re-tested, pedigreed and certified...Do it right and start out slow and add a couple extras each day and you can do a couple dozen reps of any boring exercise in 2 weeks! If I the complete athletic dunce can do them...anyone can. Put me on a horse, well, it's a different matter - There I can do, unless the creature is a real dunce! Go wiggle those: toes, feet, ankles, wrists, backs all of it...but, gently! Good article tho... We do not want over-achievement paybacks! - j |
If
You don't move it ,you loose it but please very gently. Now wasn't
that profound???? We should get our streching ex's in everyday.:) Sue |
I have a ? about movement and pn. Does it help regenerate the nerve to heal better? My neuro is trying to push me to be more daily active as I am no where near exercise as now just doing errands. Its like now though I did more then used to and am in such horrid pain and back to vicadin which I was off of. It makes me just want to stay in bed but I feel if I knew that in the long run it will help heal quicker it would help mentally. On the note of diet, I see a nutritionist but it was more before this and I was wondering if non diabetic though people have done things with diet to help with recovery? I have since this though been getting super dizzy/nausea/out of body which we thought was from meds but now were thinking from a deficency though normal blood sugar. I'm in the process of more testing.

I thought the comment at the end of your post was interesting about dizziness/out of body. I have been experiencing dizziness and awful sinking spells. It happens several times a day even when I am sitting down. I was thinking it might be from IVIG. I'd be interested to know what your doctor thinks. I don't see mine until end of August.

Maybe this
Shiney Sue,
Is this what you were thinking of in answer to Daniella's question: Meniere's Syndrome?? http://www.healthscout.com/ency/68/73/main.html and this is a good one: http://www.nidcd.nih.gov/health/balance/meniere.asp Billye |
Yes
I remember Meniere's disease,my cousin use to describe it in those
words. It's a increases pressure in your ear, like fluid,it messes up your balance but if i remmember it's fairly rare. But she said it made her dizzy and had that out of body experience. Wow don't you have enough problems stop it right now. Self-help cut down on salt sometimes fluides. You might need a diuretic, there are pills but try some asparagus, When I lay down to long and get up i kinda have this feeling,it could be a med. Did you mention this to the Dr. :) Sue I wish we all felt better. |
Alan had Menieres syndrome a few years ago. The vertigo was really bad. Had to go to the emergency room. They said "you have vertigo". Like we didn't know what he had. They gave him Meclizine. It makes you drowsy.
He went to the ear nose and throat doctor who told him "you have menieres, stop eating salt. Alan stopped the salt and I think he has had one (maybe two, 3 second bouts of vertigo in as many years). In his case, no salt equals no vertigo. So I make sure everything I give him is sodium free. I don't cook with salt or anything. I could never eat a no salt diet. But since he puts honey and splenda on everything, well, he doesn't miss it. I use light salt myself. Melody |
Thank's Billye,
I have a question for you if you don't mind. Who diagnosed you with your Sjogren's Syndrone? When you have flare ups,do you get fever, excessive fatigue, ackes and pains, choking on food and pills. Besides all the rest and boy those sweats. And have a hard time talking? Also any weight lost or vasculities. Going to new Reumy this week, seems like you get passed around alot. Im sorry everyone just feeling awfull and saw Billye's post. And teeth ouch.mine started with a pain behind my ear and down the side of my face, lemon drops helped that for a while. I want that Dr. who use to come to the house, but i would have to clean first. Sue D hope that Neuro helps. |
Yes to all
Shiney Sue, I'd have to say yes to all your symtoms. There is a Sjogren's Forum over at www.sjogrensworld.org There are a lot of good people there who suffer from this disease. Why don't you hop over there get yourself signed in and you can probably get a lot of your questions answered? It may take a little while to get your membership approved because it is run by a small group of volunteers some of who have children and full time jobs. But it has been my Sjogren's home for several years now.
Oh..my Sjogren's was actually diagnosed by an old doctor in rural Texas and later confirmed at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Billye |
