Well Crap :(
Things here in nowhere have not changed much. Still working too much and literally crash and burn after I get home. On my days off I spend attempting to reduce levels so I can rest. Have not taken anything other then over the counter medications but they cut the pain very little good thing my SCS decreases the pain what it does. Talked with my hunny at length last night (I couldn't sleep again) We decided it was time to do another nerve ablation, My SCS does not hit one nerve path, we have tried many times in the past to get coverage with no success, so as some of you know I went with the ablation... I had taken a stand that if I had to do the "diagnostic testing" again. That in a nut shell is to **** off the nerve to be sure you are "really" having pain before insurance will pay for it . So today when I was charging my lifesaver, it popped up a new message ERI, that basically means my battery will soon croak :icon_cry::holysheep::holysheep:

Pooh, Appears you will soon be replacing a battery. Curious about nerve ablation. Was your previous ablation a substantial lessening of pain? Hope all of this is sufficient since you are using only OTC medication. Really feel for you working with all this chronic pain. ::eek: Gerry |
Oh POOH
I am sorry to learn how things go. This pain is beyond what anyone should ever bear. I truly hope the process you endure will bring peace from pain.
Praying for you, M56  |
Ablation
Quote:
As far as the ablation it did help, the pain, I am not kidding that the "blind test" is beyond what I am willing to do unless things are this bad. Basically the "test" is they do 2 separate injections into the nerve root, one is the general epidural type mix, the other one... not sure what that was but I am a fairly tough old broad...it exacerbated my pain by 100x's. I layed in bed and bawled like a baby.... see the goal is to make sure you are "truly in pain" and the procedure might help. You rate your pain with all that good stuff every 30-60 min. They then compare the pain rating from each test. The kicker to the whole deal is that the ablation may or may not work, may work right away or in several months. If it does work there is no guarantee how long it will last. Was ready to do this again IF they didn't need to do "the test" for my insurance company. Such is the life of an OLD OLD NURSE with RSD |

HUGZ and love to you and yours:hug: |
Pooh,
The "test" is awful. Possibly the doctor could give the insurance a form (similar to a prior authorization) explaining "test" should not be necessary since you had previously done ablation testing in the past. Might be worth a try. Nothing to lose. Gerry |
Omigosh
How VERY well I remember the torture of that diagnostic tool called discogram. I was heard screaming all of the way from the OR to the waiting room where my family waited. Then to learn of the blind study........my gosh, how HOW can this be ethical and not cruel?
I am sorry dear Pooh that you have had to Endure THIS. How can I not be angry at this.....for me....for you. I was told after my particular screaming session where the solution injected into my ruined disc "leaked like a sieve!" At last, I was believed. Soon, the first of the deep back surgeries came to pass. How I hate torment and torture. OK, so you are tough Pooh, that I know and understand, but honest to God, I do feel your pain! I pray for your deliverance from this! HUGZ a plenty! m56         |
I don't understand
Why they gave to go in and test it again when you had it in the past? I well remember my testing and my sobbing and screams like Marks were heard in the waiting room. That first testing was way way back in 2008, in a controlled environment under X-ray with the nerve injected by golly it hurt, they have never required me to go through that again so why you do is beyond me. Big hug :hug:

The waiting game :(
Now playing the hurry up ad wait game while my insurance decides if I can get the nerve ablation and battery replacement. Days are very long and nights are even longer. Have been sitting in the hot tub for a little longer then recommended. Also taking enough Ibuprofen, Tylenol etc. topping it off with Carafate and Nexium :(

Why such delay

So scary Be well Having trouble myself losing my private insurance MY SS RED WHITE AND BLUE CARD another piece of my identity taken Sucks Oh please let that sun shine Be well Me |
Well....
Blue is the color I am.... My pain doc's nurse ( then pt who is a nurse was called by a nurse who works for her pain doc?!?) Such craziness in my brain, tired so very tired... Anywho I had a choice of 2 dates to change my battery. Chose March 23, this is also my fathers birthday... he is not doing well, he has had multiple heart surgeries and procedures. He now is in renal failure, multiple debates as to what the next plan is, but I digress. Am scheduled to have my H&P Friday. Surgery on the 23rd. Have to be in that far away city for surgery check in @ 5:30 am, takes 4 hours to get there so will be a night before in big city. The other choice was April 1st, not even going to go there....See another doc in the far away city on Thursday, work ER Tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Pre and post op in OR on Tuesday the FINALLY on Wednesday I have a day with nothing scheduled or planned ( may need to have a mommy, daughter, grandson day. How different it is to have my "monster" who will be 8 in May and a grandson who will be 1 in June. Sometimes my life is hard to understand, sometimes watching a 7 year old little lady care for a 9 month old little man makes a heart better :o soo I think this old nurse needs about a year or 2 with those activities to heal my heart.... :In-Lurve:
Soo as far as the nerve ablation, the "insurance company" :Wheel: has decided in all of its wisdom :holysheep: had decided despite all of the previous information and the "torture tests" that I must repeat such but as of this date the earliest they might consider this is after July of this year :deadhorsebeat: So even though they know that that nerve is not covered by the SCS the ablation is not "medically necessary" :thud::mfr_wha::Hum: until it is proved once again that the SCS will not cover .... Oh what fun we have...... Enough of my rant and fussing HUGZ and luv :In-Lurve: |

Countdown
Counting down the days to my surgery. Did last week ok, Yesterday I just couldn't do it again, requested to be "on call" instead of working ER, body was just not able to do another day. Worked for about 9 hours in pre and post-op. Just to make my life better I slipped in the hottub and broke my 2nd and 3rd toe on my right foot. Of course no fix other then to tape together. So I am gimping up and down the halls of my world. Just for kicks and grins I wore a pedometer on a slow day in Pre-post op walked 2 miles that day:eek: So today was a busy day I am an OLD LAME NAG :Bawling::Sinking::girl(sad):
Talked to the admissions office of the lovely hospital that I am doing my surgery in on Monday, tomorrow I will in all likely hood talk with the pre-admission nurse. Also talked with pain docs nurse she tells me that they will not turn on my unit or program it for 11 days:eek::Help::Help::thud::thud: Things suck now, I will need a short stay in the nurse loony bin for that time..... Send prayers plz |
Hope all goes well with the procedures. I find it very strange that you have to undergo the "testing" each time. I had the ablation in November for C4, C5 & C6. When I had the check up the PM told us that when it wears off just to book straight in to have the procedure done again. We were told it could last anywhere between 3 months to 2 years. After the last few days we are wondering if it has worn off already, but we won't give up hope yet.
All the best, Phil |

Day after day of
Had surgery yesterday. Went as expected, more confusion as, the rep said I could turn my unit on, Nurse has SPECFICALLY said not for 11 days, she said day 3 follow up, he told my spouse 2 weeks and told discharge nurse 5 days  Will call and get appointment today, I'm pretty sure that the answer will change yet again. No news on the ablation front, pretty sure I don't want to do it right now.
So to make life even better My father's kidneys have decided to go on strike so he is in a different hospital then I had surgery in at far away city. Spent Thursday-Saturday in far away hospital #2 came home Saturday evening, then got ready to go back, with hunny, monster was very upset will all of the sick grandpa and the mommy having surgery so she rode along and watched the nurses like a hawk. Last night the kidneys pitched a bigger fit. So rest today, tomorrow, ER or far away. |

Worked OR Tues, stitches out Wed. OR today and tomorrow, then ER Sat and Sunday, Monday Tuesday OR. In the mean while I must see if I can leave early Mon to take my father to outpt dialysis....... Somewhere I have ****** off the fates
