Can you help me?
Can you help me? I'm sitting here trying. All of the nerves in my body seem to have freaked out. Started in July. Woke up numb from waist down. Regained feeling after 6 houurs but developed foot roll (foot drop) Iin left foot. Three weeks ago, I woke up with right wrist drop that has not corrected even slightly. My foot has recovered enough to walk, but with abnormal gait, still falling sometimes. I am all alone, can't seem to get help very fast, and worried this is going to affect internal systems and shut down my organs at some point. I am alone and terrified. Do not want to die this way. Any help? Yes, I drink, while I have cut down a lot, I'm afraid I haven't been able to stop completely. I have also been using Kratom for pain, but have cut that by half as well. I know you will tell me I have to STOP, and I am trying, but I am afraid it is too late.

Hello Rebecca,
That sounds very frightening for you. You need to be seen by medical professionals. When did you visit your doctor last? Were you ill with flu or other virus or did you have any vaccinations in June or July before this began? |
Do you have any diagnosis, or testing done for this?
|
I have been trying to get a diagnosis since July. I go in for an Electrical test to see if the nerve in my arm is dead (honestly, I think it is, but have hope someone can help me). I am in PT, But honestly, they haven't done a thing for my hand but electrically stimulate it. ( and drain my lymph nodes) Not sure what to make of my PT right now, I need intervention, and she's doing pet therapy with me. I asked if she could do anything with my wrist, and her response was not confirming. She really is pressing me to get a diagnoses though. I see fear in her eyes.

I did not have any vaccinations but just moved to Eastern Washington accross from the Columbia river. I have been attacked by moquitos severely since moving here, and the bugs around here are fierce. As well, we have a nice infestation at my workplace.

As well I have been dealing with a severe mosquito and bug problem since moving to Eastern Washington. As well, my new workplace has a pretty healthy mouse population. I don't think these are causational, but anything that have could have set this off?

I have a call in to have electrical testing to see if the nerve is dead, and to see what is happening with my other nerves. Hopefully in the next two weeks. But feel like if my nerve was alive at some point, healthcare inertia killed it.

I was pretty healthy before.moving.to.Eastern Washington in May. I should mention, I fell off of a motorcycle onto my upper back and head in July and required 28 stitches in my thighs from hitting the licence plate on the bike, but the foot roll had presented a couple of days previously.

If anyone can give me any words of comfort or compassion right now, I really need them.

Take Good Care, Rebecca!
Hi Rebecca,
Sounds like you are having a tough time in general and are very anxious about your medical condition today? It's difficult to piece together what's going on with you medically at this time. It appears you are unsure of the diagnoses involved? Sounds like someone has talked with you about getting nerve testing done in the near future? I'm wondering if your anxiety about your medical condition(s) is higher than usual today? It's natural to feel some anxiety about any "unknowns" when going through diagnostic processes. We often wonder if we will recover or not, as well as how any condition might affect our lives. Sometimes, with chronic medical challenges, chronic pain, and dealing with many "unknowns," our anxieties can grow and can take over our thinking. When this happens, we can feel very worried, very fearful. It is helpful if others can reassure us in these moments of worry/fear/anxiety. Do you have friends/family around? Anyone you can call or ask to come to see you? Are you spending most of your time alone? If so, is it possible to make plans with friends/family or attend a social gatherings? Do you have any pets? The motorcycle accident also sounds as though it may have been quite traumatizing? Have you been evaluated/treated for anxiety and/or depression? Many of us go through anxiety and depression with the stress of injuries and illnesses/medical conditions. Are you able to see a therapist to help you with your feelings, your concerns while you also continue testing and PT? Do you have an emergency number you can call if you need to talk with someone tonight? I am leaving a number for you. This is a U.S. hotline: National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-TALK(8255) The web site: www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org I am sure this hotline will be helpful if you just need to talk about your concerns. You may not need this number, yet I wanted to leave a number with you, just incase you'd needed to talk to someone now. I think you will learn more about your testing this coming week? If you have emergent concerns about your welfare, please go to your local E.R. It's early evening in Washington right now (on Saturday evening). I hope you will have a restful night. Please take excellent care of yourself, Rebecca. Warmly, DejaVu P.S. Rebecca, Please join in on any forums here. There are many. :) You may choose any type of forum, including the fun forums. :D Make yourself at home here. |
Thank you, I am alone, but just spoke with my husband on the phone. I have literally been pacing my apartment all day worrying myself into a state. I also started lisinopril several days ago and wondering of this medication is making me freak out. I can feel nerves jumping all over my body. Looking back I can now see that this has been 5 years of missed diagnoses and surgeries, and don't know why this illness is not more announced and commonly known, because this is devastating.
At the same time, I'm worried this will shut down my system as it did my mother's at 46 yoa. I know I'm about to lose a great career that I have worked hard at and had many people help me to get here, and who recommended me, and I'm sorry to let them down . But know I have to step out off the hamster wheel now, I need to make drastic changes, and I am ready to chuck it all to focus on trying to live. . You are right my anxiety is at an extreme high. Thank you for the number, I may need it tonight. God bless. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |

Lisinopril - there are people on the forums who have had extremely bad reactions to Lisinopril. You could search it in the forum search feature http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/search.php Can you contact your doctor with your concerns about the Lisinopril? May I ask if you have been regaining mobility slowly but surely since the episode in July, but now you have terrible nerve pain??? |
Hi Rebecca
Welcome to NeuroTalk :). As you can see from the other posts, it is a knowledgeable and supportive community. One thing that you wrote struck me: "and drain my lymph nodes" The next time you see the health professional who did that it might be an idea if you asked him/her why that was done. The answer (if you don't understand at first, keep on asking until you do) could help you. All the best. |

I know I made her sound as if she was freaking me out(which she was) but I know she is not going to touch my hand until I have a diagnosis. She has worked with chemo and Cancer patients, but for some reason, I get the feeling she doesn't know what to do to help me Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk |
5 times now replying to you, just to have my hand make a wrong move and lost it.

Hi, I will be contacting my physician on Monday ( put in a call on Friday, but no response, it is making me crazy in pain and Anxiety's through the roof!

Hi Rebecca
I hope that the meeting with your physician goes well. My apologies if I have got this wrong but I have the impression that a health professional has removed fluid from your abdomen in the past. If I am right, this fluid is sometimes called ascites and it can accumulate in the abdomen (the peritoneal cavity) for many reasons. I suggest that you ask your physician about this. One option (I am not meaning to second-guess your clinical care team) is to check out your liver function - this is something that you could discuss with your physician. All the best. |

I hope that when you contact your doctor on Monday that you are able to get an urgent appointment. I'm sorry you have to wait so long is all. If you think that your nerve pain has been caused or made worse by drinking, I would suggest that you check out this thread that I'll post below. There are many very courageous people who can tell you that with time you can recover a lot. There is also a lot of invaluable information throughout the thread regarding supplements and treatments that may be of help to you right now. http://neurotalk.psychcentral.com/thread104096.html Also there is the PN forum which I see you found and also the PN Tips, Resources, Supplements and Other Treatments sub-forum take care there. |
I did have a blood panel, but it came up clear.

Please ask your doctor to switch you to another blood pressure medication.... NOT an ACE inhibitor type.
Lisinopril causes swelling, and increase in bradykinin levels. If you have low C-1 inhibitor to remove it, you will swell up everywhere. This is not common and some doctors are not up on it... as they didn't get it in school. Here are some links to read: http://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056...00208223470820 http://www.haea.org/patients/what-is-hae/ This can affect your bladder, GI tract, throat and any body part. I have the GI type, and swelling limbs with only minor throat symptoms. People vary. It would be best just to change that blood pressure drug to another family of drugs. NO ACE inhibitors. I get considerable anxiety when I have an attack. Reducing the lisinopril is not going to help much as it will still generate the bradykinin which is what causes the swelling. (typical antihistamines DO NOT reduce the swelling caused by bradykinin). It took about 3 months for my body to get rid of the problem of swelling. There will be a first nice response, but then it will take a while to get 100% back to normal. |
Thanks, I'm going to call her Monday.
