Need some new tv for allnighters

Netflix, amazon prime?
I'm actually thinking of canceling cable and getting hulu too.
I find that back to back episodes of tv series help get me through the misery and pain but I have burned through so many and need some ideas... anyone?

Wiix 08-27-2015 07:10 PM

Decades and AS;)

northerngal 08-27-2015 07:20 PM

Greys Anatomy------there are a lot of seasons, so if you like it, it will last a while for you :)

madisongrrl 08-27-2015 07:31 PM

I cancelled my cable several years ago. We have Amazon Prime and Netflix (streaming and the 2 disc plan). Lately, I've been watching all episodes of House.

Some of the series we've enjoyed were Orange is the New Black, Californication, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy, Archer, Game of Thrones, True Blood, Sorprano's, Six Feet Under, The Wire, True Detective, Shameless, Ray Donovan, Nurse Jackie, L Word, The Bogias etc.

For a girl who used to never watch TV, I've sure made up for it!

Hulu is good. Check out Difficult People and for something super light and ridiculous, Hotwives of Orlando.

Laughter is good therapy.

Netflix rocks, Amazon Prime not nearly as much but you can still find something to watch if you work at it.

TV gives me the blues. Commercials give me the blues. I haven't watched TV in more than 30 years.

Cable jacks up the price, for simple services, its really annoying. it could be better with netflix and amazon, since comcast really dislike netflix users.

pinkynose 08-28-2015 09:08 AM

Netflix gets my vote for series. In addition to all the other suggestions I also liked The Fall, House of Cards, The Killings and Mad Men.

I would brag in the past about how I rarely watched TV. Boy how times have changed!!

So much Kung Fu

I have binge watched on Netflix for a good while and have started to run out of favorites. Stuff I liked includud, Lilihammer,Bloodline,Monarch of the Glen, All Creatures Great and Small. If I get stuck I will pick up on House Of Cards. Watched all of House M.D. Will start Mad Men. Lots of British detectives out there, I likes Crossing Lines but some I had to abandon. I have always been stupid for faky, facky, fake Chinese Kung Fu. On Netflix if you wait after the credits have rolled there will be more choices of same kind of movie that you can click on. Beware as this leads to Kung Fu overloadand and you start to believe that you are a 100 lb Chinese boy that is deadly from toes to ponytail.haha.Good Luck, Ken in Texas.

I'm on DirecTV and really like the video on demand feature, but they've been raising the cost so high, that I'm on the cheapest plan they have. I told them if it goes up one more dollar, I'm done. The operator laughed, I asked her what was funny? She said she had closed 3 peoples accounts over the same thing. I told her to be careful talking like that. She laughed again and said she was on her 10th day of her 2 weeks notice, and could care less if they heard her...
I also have Amazon prime, but the movie and TV show selection isn't as good as Hulu or Netflix.

janieg 09-02-2015 10:56 PM

I watch Amazon Prime on my Kindle Fire all cozily tucked into bed at night. It's nice to be able to change positions as necessary and just move the screen with me.

I can't even begin to tell you all the shows I binge-watched when my SFN symptoms were bad and kept me up all night. I was very happy to have the entertainment.

Hi Janieg, It's nights like tonight, with all night pain, that have started me watching TV after 10 years of not watching TV.

You sound very comfortable with your Kindle Fire. :)
My niece loves her Kindle Fire.

I watch Netflix, Amazon Prime and Showtime. I have access to a large selection of XFinity/Comcast cable; yet, don't care for most of it.

Daredevil was a pretty good binge watch on NETFLIX. Super Hero based story but a lot more to it, story driven, it AIN'T AVENGERS. My favorite binge watching ever was all seasons of "24". Star Trek is also always Great stuff.

Hockey 09-03-2015 07:22 AM

I hear you with the long nights, awake with pain. :(

What sort of programmes do you like to watch?

I watch a lot of documentaries, old tv shows, obscure foreign TV/movies, miniseries, etc... for free, on YouTube.

As, in addition to my spinal injuries, I have TBI, I can only handle screen time in limited bursts. Being able to stop and start a programme is a real asset.

My best to you.

janieg 09-03-2015 09:30 AM

I pretty much watch anything that grabs me. I've seen some great documentaries and foreign films on Prime, but probably the thing I enjoy the most is all the shows from HBO, Showtime and other cable channels that I haven't seen. Or, maybe I have seen them, but I just haven't watched them in awhile. Some recent viewings...

- Six Feet Under (one of my all-time favorite shows)
- In Treatment
- Louie
- The Big C
- Big Love
- Oz

KnowNothingJon 09-03-2015 10:27 AM

Six Feet Under is quality stuff. The Mom is just stellar. They all are, but she just strikes a chord with me.

Oz takes the greek chorus, pumps it up and tells compelling stories.

I enjoyed Deadwood a lot. Shakespearean dialogue with salty language. It is an odd grouping, but it works. I'll watch any program Ian McShane is in due to his portrayal of Al Swearengen. I hated and admired the character often in the same scene.

Daredevil is so well done as well.

I have tried to stay away from TV of late when I am up, but I think autumn will reshuffle the deck.

The Wire is still one of my favorite shows ever. Breaking Bad is number one.

I tried "The Wire," and just couldn't get into it. Being that I live near Baltimore, I should have loved it. I'll give it another go at some point.

I'm trying "Deadwood" again on your rec. I tried it once before without being grabbed, but sometimes it's just your mood at the time.

Two thumbs up on "Breaking Bad." LOVED it. It's one I'll watch again in its entirety after some time passes.

The mom in "Six Feet Under" was spectacular. I still imitate her to this day when my mouth gets foul. Doing my best imitation..."Language!

Somebody mentioned "Doc Martin" too. Absolutely one of my favorite shows. One thing it's really gotten me thinking about is the bedside manner of doctors. You obviously want one who is all nice and warm and makes you feel good, but in the end, what you NEED is one who knows his stuff and fixes you! I've reassessed. :)

If you haven't watched "Louie", I highly recommend it. It's hysterical, offensive and deep. Nice combo for a 30 minute show.

The Doc on Deadwood played Billy Babbit in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest and also voiced Chucky in that franchise. He is also very good on the show.

Her name escapes me, but the femsle lead on Breaking Bad also has a role on Deadwood.

Moone Boy is a very cute series we found on Hulu. I think it may have originally been on BBC.

.

Definitely give The Wire another shot. I felt like I couldn't get into it when I started watching it. It was too many characters to keep track of with my short attention span. But make yourself watch the first 5-6 episodes. That series is as excellent as Breaking Bad and Six Feet Under. I promise!

KnowNothingJon 09-04-2015 08:53 PM

The Bunk... 'nuff said, save it isn't 10 characters.

KnowNothingJon 09-04-2015 11:33 PM

I just rewatched a painfully bad episode of Game of Thrones & the TV switched back to the channel my daughter was watching. Tom and Jerry is on. I am eight again and this buzzing is from sitting cross legged in front of the tv... yeah, that's the ticket!
