i saw an eagle
 

hi everyone. i just wanted to share my experience i had a few days ago. i was in my bedroom and saw a bald eagle soar by. he was so majestic and beautiful. i was so amazed by his bright white feathered "bald" head and tail. he was huge and soared by to fast that i didn't have a chance to take a picture of him. he was the first bald eagle i ever saw in real life and i will always remember how amazing he was. i hope i can see more someday. they are so graceful and awesome. just had to share my moment with the eagle. i love love love birds but must say that he was and probably always will be my favorite. (i still want to see an owl though someday too.) i love them too and hear them all the time but never can see them. i love my feathered friends!:)

Good for you! They are always exciting to me too! This time of year the raptors start to migrate south.(where water doesn't freeze over)

We saw an eagle fight upNorth one summer. Locked talens and screaming/falling/tumbling down right above where we sat on the shore. That event was quite exciting. We didn't know if it were a game or territorial arguing. It was in August after the breeding time.

That is cool! Large birds do fill you with a sense of awe and, somehow an uplifting of Spirit.

I have never seen an Eagle in the wild, but I have Barn Owls hunting in the field in front of my house and a Tawny Owl sits on my roof, or the telephone pole, and Calls his territorial 'Towitt Hoooo'. The Barn Owls shriek like a ghost (hence Ghost Owl) when they do make a noise, normally flying over the house in the dead of night - scary.

Congratulations on seeing the Bald Eagle! They are indeed awesome, and in most areas they are not a common sight.

Have you ever heard of the world-famous Decorah eagle webcam? (

) They have had some upheaval in the nest area recently, and the live camera is usually on either the original nest (N1, you might see a barn in the distance) or on the nest that is hoped to be used this year. There's no guarantee where the pair will nest.

If you are ever able to, take a trip around Michigan's Au Sable River. There are quite a few eagles that nest up there. Every time I see one I am still in awe of their majestic presence. It is a wonderful area for bird watching. If you are lucky enough, you may even get a chance to see a Kirtland's warbler - an endangered species that spends the summer in Michigan and winter in the Bahamas.

I've never seen an eagle in SE Mich. But we do have them nesting in the UP each summer. (Northern Lake Huron). They have been up there for about 10 yrs now.

Here is one adult having a fish breakfast across from our dock 2 summers ago. The fishing crows really pestered him alot.

We do have red tailed hawks, and sparrow hawks. We saw a turkey vulture last spring during the migration back upNorth.
I was resting high up in an oak in our yard.

I used to live about a half a mile from an open quarry. Each time I drove by the pit, which was about a quarter of a mile across, I could see eagles and falcons flying over it. There must have been small critters down inside the quarry and they would dive for them.

I was just standing by my kitchen windows when a Peregrine Falcon just flew by and landing in a tree not 10 feet from me. It had a dead mouse in it's talons and started eating it right in front of me. It stayed there for quite a while, eating.

Fascinating! A number of years ago I had a large Sparrow Hawk who would come and take the pigeons out of the tree in my front garden, then strip them of feathers. Pigeons have an inordinate number of feathers when you see them spread over the lawn like snow.

On Thanksgiving, my parents came down from Oscoda to Metro Detroit for a couple of days. While they were here, they told me that they have a bald eagle that has been nesting in their yard over the past few years. This year, it finally lost its juvenile feathers and gained its white feathered head. My dad managed to get a beautiful picture of it perched on a branch by the lake. I don't imagine that it will be there at Christmas time when I go up there, but it certainly would be wonderful to see if it is still there. I will have to see if my dad will let me post his photo on here to share with all of you.
