Surgery next week

Great news, after seeing the surgeon yesterday he is going to perform a Lumber Laminectomy where he will remove the pressure by opening the spinal canal and widening it from the back. He will remove bone and other tissue pressing on the affected nerve. Then they can slowly take me off the medication that leaves me fumbling for words in the morning when talking to other teachers and students.

Ha ha the surgeon took a look at my legs and said my left thigh was waisting because I'm limping and is not getting my full weight on it. No wonder it gives way when i forget about it. You have to laugh. ..

Phil

Hoping all goes well for the surgery and a complication-free recovery.

See if you can get a room with a TV post-surgery - watching your team decimate the Black Caps again on Friday should cheer you up. :D

Thanks kiwi33 I'm going home tomorrow. Surgeon said there was a large amount of disc crushing the nerve. He said he cleared it alot around the nerve. I'm walking with a legbrace and walking stick with no pain in my leg, groin or thigh. The only pain is where he operated. I'm Stoked. Very happy at this stage.

PhilfromOz 11-13-2015 02:07 AM

Phil - Great to hear all went well. All the best for no complications with healing.

May be when you're up to it you could post a summary of your symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and results - it's encouraging when others can see the journey from pain to recovery.

Phil,
I don't know what time you're leaving or which direction you're travelling in, but just warning you that you should check the Bureau of Meterology radar site before you set off from hospital today. Slow moving storms from the west.

ummm, maybe not so slow. No warnings yet though I think they're asleep at the wheel as usual.

[edit - removed out of date link.
all clearing now]

PhilfromOz 11-13-2015 06:03 PM

Thanks Lara yes we've been talking about the storms coming. Pretty yuk outside at the moment. Thanks for the warning

Good evening Phil. :Wave-Hello:

You would be happy to be home again. I hope it wasn't too painful sitting in the car. You take care there.

PhilfromOz 11-21-2015 04:47 PM

10 days on post surgery, walking and a lot of laying around. Can't sit for more than 20 mins before pain flares up. Pain in old places again like ,shin and hip not sure if it's from doing a bit too much or not. Some info I've read says pain in the old nerve areas could remain for some time before it heals from having the pressure point removed. Time will tell. Have follow up appointment in 3 weeks with surgeon so will get a clearer picture then I hope.
Caught up with some friends who's little boy is fighting Leukaemia and thankfully doing very well. "Back Trouble, not the end of the world". [emoji106][emoji106][emoji3][emoji3]
