It is coming soon to your region of the USA
Hi Everyone,
Here it comes,... ready or not.... Thanksgiving, 2015. I just want to say how Thankful I am for my NT friends and family. Would love to hear what your plans are for turkey day if you care to share. Thanks, Hope (less) |
Am I too early to ask about one's plans for turkey day?
It is less than 3 weeks away so I thought people may already have some plans in place. I plan to stay in my pj's all day. Cook my little turkey when I get up (whatever time that turns out to be) and eat when it is done. And then have some turkey to pick at as the evening rolls around. That was my plan last year, too, but I did not feel up to putting the bird in the oven so I had MY Thanksgiving dinner on the weekend instead of Thursday. I hope to cook it ON Thanksgiving Day this year but time will determine if that goes as planned. :) |
Hope, I'll be thinking of you on your Thanksgiving Day.
 |
Dear Lara,
How funny that the ONLY person that has responded is NOT in the USA. I was wondering if many of the NT community go to visit family or host dinner since so many of us are "disabled". I no longer do either as evident by my post. No pressure to have to go anywhere or do anything if I am not up to it. Kind of nice to be able to just be and relax. I DO think about how thankful I am for my friends here. Thanks so much for responding. |
Hey there Hope :)
Well my friend you already know what I'm doing for Thanksgiving but I will share with everyone else :)
My husband passed on Aug 30th of this year. Both of my grown children did not want to spend Thanksgiving here at home so we are loading up and heading for the North Georgia Mountains. I've rented a cabin for a week that sits right beside a small river. We have stayed at this cabin before....probably 1999 or so. Me, Luke and the 3 grandsons will leave on Sunday before Thanksgiving. Wednesday night Christina and her husband will follow with my granddaughter and my mom......mom doesn't want to go so I'm trying to work something out so she can stay home but we'll see. I'm looking forward to a nice roaring fire in the fire place and seeing all the grandchildren laying around the living room watching tv or playing games. Of course there are stairs to the 2nd floor so I'm thinking there will be lots of small footsteps going up and down.....up and down those stairs ! Taking my 2 dogs with me....Angus and Charlie. Since I lost my Bubba they are my constant companions. I hope others will follow my post with their plans too. It's a nice break from the usual you know ? Thanks Hope for starting this thread. Love you girl ! Debi from Georgia |
Bumping up in case I was just too early when I started the thread.

So it is your Thanksgiving Day tomorrow, the 26th?
I had to laugh Hope. I thought I'd missed it in my travelling time but now realize it hadn't happened yet. ;) HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY I'm thankful for knowing you all. Eat some pie for me please. No pie here. |
Happy Thanksgiving to all across The Pond.

Hi Hope,
Gosh I am late here! But evidently it is still too early to know about my Thanksgiving plans. I am not deciding until 7 am tomorrow morning! With the weather coming and flood warnings my planned 200 mile road trip may not be happening. In which case we might just be bumming around. I hope you and everyone has a beautiful day with many small and hopefully a few big blessings to be Thankful for. :grouphug: |
To my friends in other countries,.... You may not have the USA Thanksgiving Day, but you are definitely people that I am thankful for knowing and I will be saying many thanks for you being in my life when I say my Thanks tomorrow. You are such a blessing in my life.

Hi Littlepaw,
I understand the last minute decision. I never know if I am going to be up to attending any function so I found it just a lot easier on everyone (including me) to just not plan to attend. Turns out to be especially relaxing and easier on me. Guess I am selfish but I have taken this route for several years now and found it fabulous. NO pressures and no apologies for last minute cancellations. I marvel at those able to push themselves into attending functions when dealing with chronic conditions. I tried that for a while and then decided to take the easy way out and just decline the invites. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you enjoy yourself. Sometimes, staying home can be fun, too. |
In a forum of so many wonderful people who have been there to voice their opinions and help each other understand more about what is going on with our bodies. To all those who have helped me and those who are there just reading all of our threads and thinking of each other, Thank You! No matter what country your are in, you are all in my thoughts for a brighter future. I hope that tomorrow is a good day for all of us.
Tomorrow, I have plans to be with my family, a mother who has been resenting some of my life decisions who is talking to me again, a sister who underwent a craniotomy that has left her struggling through her recovery, a husband who is now talking to me again after been mad at me for limiting myself while suffering with the pain that CRPS brings, 2 wonderful nieces that 1 is in her first year of pre-med away from home for the first time, the other graduating High School in the spring and planning on getting into sports medicine, and then my loving father who has been there by all of our sides trying to hold us all together and looking out for all of us. We just moved into our new house and traveling 3 miles to visit my family is what I plan to do no matter how I am feeling. If I have issues, I am close enough to home that I can easily make it home to seek relief. Littlepaw, You have been one of the biggest supporters on our subforum, Wishing you the best, and that the Austin area does not flood. I hope you continue to have relief from your recent ketamine injection and you are able to keep your travel plans for tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving All! |
A Day of Gratitude
A Warm Hello!
Thanks, Hope, for this thread and the sentiments behind starting this thread. I have been "away," yet have signed in to wish everyone a happy holiday! We had enjoyed our first Thanksgiving dinner of this year with wonderful neighbors, several days ago. Today, we will enjoy a meal with several family members, followed by and "open house" with friends/family dropping by randomly until 10 pm or so. Love to All! :grouphug: DejaVu |
A nice day with my family, my parents, my sister and her family.
I am going to attempt to not shop at any store that was open today during this holiday season. They kept people frombeing with their loved ones for a "door buster". Boo. If I can eat vegan for over two years I can abide by that, I believe. Thankful I was able to enjoy the day. I'm thankful for this place and all the fine folk who reside here. Jon |
Just for clarification.........
When I addressed my post #10 to my friends outside the USA, I did not mean to exclude my US friends in the least. (See post #1) I just wanted to say Thanks to my friends that do not celebrate the US Thanksgiving, too. Thought that was so special that they would extend their holiday wishes to us here in the US. So, to ALL my NT friends and family, HERE and ABROAD, regardless where you are, I am so very thankful to have you in my life. |
Thanks Hope for this thread! I hope you had a wonderful day in your PJs. :)
Debi, I am so glad you got to have a normal happy day filled with family. Alaina, I am grateful your new digs give you an easy respite when you need it! Thanks for the kind words and support on our sub-forum. I hope you had a peaceful day filled with restoration. DejaVu, It sounds like you were rewarded by much companionship and care. I hope continued healing keeps coming your way! Keep being wonderful. Jon, I always notice your many thoughtful replies and the cute photo. I am with you on the boycott. I wanted to #optoutside with REI but weather is not permitting... I made the roadtrip! That would've been darn near impossible a year ago and had a heckuva payback. This year I am sore but not ruined, a blessing for sure. My son motivates me to make the stretch for those trips. Before I know it he'll be all growed up and independent like. We had a great day with family full of laughter and cutting up. Then we drove right back this morning! Sheesh, but we saw a safe window for driving and went for it. Short and sweet. Dave and Lara, Greetings across the ponds! Gratitude know no bonds of time or place.... I hope the blessings continue for everyone and that the coming holidays are filled with peace and healing. :grouphug: |
Hi Hope,
Thank you for your warm sentiments. I feel as you do, grateful for ALL the folks on NT who are so loving and supportive. Our thanksgiving was spent in a very small but lovely way. My 99 yr old motherinlaw, who was just put on hospice care is confined to her room, so my husband and I, and her caretaker spent thanksgiving day together in her room. She is blind and non-ambulatory but can still converse lightly and we actually ended the day singing. My husband's nickname is Barney and he got her singing an adorable rendition of " Barney google, with the goo goo googly eyes!" (I think you have to be over 60 to remember that one!). Have a lovely weekend, D. Quote:
