NOW vitamin D cream

I wanted to post something about this creme that I've now been using for 2 months. I can't speak to absorption, since I haven't had a blood test recently enough and I use oral supplements for D as well. But it has E and A as well. Rather, I've found it very soothing when my legs and feet are tingling or have the creepy crawlers feeling, or even temperature control issues (cold chills). It seems to work very well and to maintain my skin, since I have lots of dryness and my hands and fingers, and feet have seen some serious skin changes, flaky, dry, white patches, etc. I have ordered 3 more and will keep using it. Perhaps others will find it useful. Cliffman had written me about it a short while ago, so perhaps he has also found it useful.

There is a Vit D cream on RX in the US... It is called Dovenex.

It works well for my husband's psoriasis.

David, I want to thank you for the Now Vit D cream recommendation. I initially bought 2 tubes and it is a Keeper for sure. Right up with the Topricin and MSM cream. Both my feet are numb and I've been dealing with nasty rashes and peeling skin, what a turn of events for my feet. Not that much burning these days but numb and for me I believe it's arthritic. I will but some for my daughter and her children.

I also bought a lanolin, peanut oil, rose oil product that I'm using with these creams.

On the feet subject, I finally found SOCKS that are what I've needed for years...no synthetics with poly, spandex, nylon, binding elastic etc etc...but pure Cotton. I found Buster Brown 100% Cotton socks on amazon and I love them. Helping with healing too, the synthetics are not where it's at...just more chemicals. Many thanks...C

DavidHC 03-29-2016 12:37 PM

Glad to hear that, Caroline. I think so too. I just squeezed the last bits out of my first bottle, lasted two months (though I started using it sparingly). It makes sense to me that especially if one has SFN with the tiniest fibers just under the skin being affected, that a quality cream like this, with A, E and D, will help nourish it. Maybe that's too simplistic, but I actually feel improvement. I'd be curious to hear how you do with it in the coming weeks.

And I'm happy to hear you found socks that are helpful. When things are the way they are for us, even the smallest of things are not so small and make a huge difference. :)

I am not sure this will work but i am going to try this DavidHC because i have a bit of the same problem you describe

DavidHC 04-01-2016 10:48 AM

Well, I hope it works for you. Perhaps update us. I continue to have good results from this nourishing cream. We don't have the advantage of clinical trials, so we do what we can. :)

Congratulations, David. I am pleased that my earlier suggestion is working for you.;)

DavidHC 04-01-2016 11:55 AM

Thanks, MrsD. I mean, I can't tell for sure, but all signs indicate as much. One thing is for sure, by bypassing the gut, I don't have any of the gut issues with the lanolin, and that means a lot. I'll be doing another D serum test at the end of April, and will update my numbers. I'm now using it regularly, I'd say about 5000 IU a day, so my numbers should really be going up. Thanks again. :)

I've been using it for a week now

And it really helps with the creepy crawlers. It is instant relief for that. It is soothing and I haven't had any adverse effects. Very promising! :)

Hi Pinkynose,

Thank you for the feedback. I just received 2 tubes in the mail yesterday and tried it this morning. Hopefully it will help with burning pain...smells nice too.

Cliffman :)

I've put it on my Amazon wish list. They've raised the free shipping to $49 !! so it will be a short while as we add our needs to that list for another order.

You know in the past, Vits A and D have been in diaper rash remedies. You can still buy that --but it is in ointment form and greasy. I have used it however for hemorrhoid and fissure healing and sometimes on my feet.

There are also oral supplements for the skin. One nice formula is ACEs with zinc by Carlson's. (vits A, C, E, with selenium and zinc).

DavidHC 04-11-2016 10:33 AM

I'm glad to hear this cream is proving useful and catching on.

Pinkey, you're exactly right about it getting rid of the tingling and/or creepy crawlers feeling, at least that's precisely my experience with it. It can get bad for me some mornings when I awake, so I put it on immediately and voila, it's gone! If D is immuno-suppressive, then this function makes sense, but this needn't be the mechanism of action, or the only one. Who knows, but it does the job. :)

I hope it's as useful for you too, Cliffman and MrsD.

our NOW cream has been delivered from Amazon.

It is very nice. It is working already for my feet to reduce dryness and the awful purple color they turn. Also hubby is
finding quick results on his psoriasis.

We are both old now, so I wonder if skin in the elderly is
more likely to respond to this wonderful cream.

So my thanks to David! This cream is far beyond just a vitamin D supplement...it is highly therapeutic in other ways!

DavidHC 05-02-2016 12:11 PM

Glad to hear it's doing so much good for you, MrsD. Precisely this:

"This cream is far beyond just a vitamin D supplement...it is highly therapeutic in other ways!"

I'm using a tube a month now. From my knees down to my toes.

I really like it too and have added a couple other foot therapy products from iherb. My feet have gotten so worse in the last 5 yrs, went downhill since hip surgery and advanced OA.
Thanks again and I tell others about it too. I had burning in my toe areas and talked about it here, but it's not reared it's ugly head in a month or so. C

caroline2 05-17-2016 12:31 PM

Still lovin the Vit D cream and my first tube is about gone now. I also added this one product since my feet had gotten so horrid with advanced OA. They are so improved, thank goodness.

So glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with it, and with the other cream. I use it each morning. Takes the pain and so much else away. If it didn't keep me awake at night because of the D, I would use it before bedtime too.

Mrs. D...Magnesium Lotion

I am going to buy the Now vitamin D that was recommended here.

I get a charley-horse almost nightly in both legs. I am putting a magnesium lotion on (Ancient Minerals) about every other night. It seems to help.

My question is, do I still take a magnesium supplement, and if so what kind? There is magnesium in my daily vitamin and calcium supplement.

It's an awful thing when it hits in both legs during the night because I have to jump out of bed to relieve the pain, and I'm so afraid of falling. My neuropathy has progressed significantly over the past 15 years, but so far is only in my feet and ankles.

I'm wondering if you ever heard of anyone developing plantar warts because of PIN. I had a wart removed from the shin on my left leg, and then a plantar wart on the ball of my left foot. About a month later I had one removed on the ball of my right foot which took 3 times before a Dermatologist froze it off. It seems to be better now. The pain after the treatment was excruciating, worse than labor pains. I was actually crying with pain for a day after. The doctor did tell my the pain would get worse before it got better. I hope I never have to go through that again.

Plantar warts are a virus, and I don't understand how I got them because I never walk barefoot. They were on the bottom of both feet in exactly the same place. That's why I wondered if it had anything to do with PIN. But of course the doctors don't know.

mrsD 05-22-2016 09:57 AM

Plantar warts might signal poor immune functioning in the skin.

Try the NOW D cream in those locations too.

It is not likely that the magnesium in your mixed product is the good kind that is absorbable. Most mixtures are all or mostly magnesium oxide, which does not get thru the GI tract at all.

So do check that. I'd put the NOW cream where you get your
charley horse cramps. The Vit E in there will improve circulation.
Make sure you eat foods high in potassium also. That may help too.

caroline2 05-22-2016 12:49 PM

I might add this too, since using the two new creams the burning I've had on my right foot is no longer. My issues for the most part with the feet are OA but who knows could also be issues from hip surgery, same side of my body. My right side of body is very numb from nerve damage from the surgery. I've never had a wart and can't say enough about taking grape seed ex for it's anti viral, anti fungal, anti bacterial properties..it's a powerful antoxidant. I'm headed to 21 yrs taking it. C

The first few ingredients on the magnesium lotion that I use are: Water - Genuine Zechstein? (Whatever that is) - Magnesium Chloride - Organic Vegetable Glycerine, etc.

This is what I was referring to about the "supplement" and that if it is "stearate" or oxide, you are not getting any magnesium into the tissues from it. It is passing out in your stool.

The topical you are using is only an aqueous liquid...it has no carrier lotion (oil based) to move the magnesium thru the skin. The skin has a barrier to any aqueous solution, and the mag is not likely to get thru it well.

The lotion by Morton's which was newly discontinued, did carry the mag into the body. I really love the Morton's.

This one is an example...it is the first that was on the net many years ago to carry magnesium thru the skin:
Magnesium Sulfate Cream from Kirkman

It is on iherb and Amazon too. It costs more because it is measured to deliver with a scoop 100mg of ionic magnesium thru the skin. It was initially developed for children.
