Diet 2016
I think I will have to diet for the rest of my life, I keep yo yoing which is very bad from what I understand.
Jeff gets back on tuesday...I have been on the computer for hours! I bought some ready made food from sandras health food store: chicken salad, veggie soup, quinoa soup, tabouli salad, lentil rice which is a high carb food though that I love! I survived trivia drinking only water. and eating fairly healthy too. so that was good. Fun but we were horrible! One of my 88 year old clients who lives on the street behind us. Had all four tires and rims stolen off her car on last sunday. The car was on blocks when I saw her yesterday. Can't believed that happened. She has a malibu with fancy rims(why I don't know), $2,200 for them to be replaced. They are looking for replacements. My husband has fancy rims and now I worry that I will come out to the same thing on his car. Maybe we should convert our car port to a garage???? Our neighbor hood is one of the safest neighborhoods (from what police told me months ago when our neighbors moved because their cars kept getting broken into them, they left their doors unlocked though. same thing happened to my car several years ago. I just make sure my car door is locked every night now. Obviously there is crime everywhere. I work today so that is good. Am going to meet a friend at planet fitness tonight, show her around, hoping that she joins so that I can have a walk buddy. She too has sleep issues and can't seem to find the right medication to help her sleep. I feel so sorry for people who can't get enough sleep. I need to do laundry tomorrow and maybe I will clean a little. The house is full of cat hair and my bath room floor is sticky again. I hope yall have a good weekend. bizi |
A lot of people end up on the yo-yo dieting. It's so hard to lose weight and keep it off. The two weeks I did my South Beach Diet was my 1st diet ever. I was very disciplined while on it, but have had zero willpower since. If that's any indication of how things will go, I will end up with a yo-yo of my own.
You're buying prepared food, but think of it this way: you're buying it from a health food store, so it doesn't have all the sodium and preservatives you would be getting from items off the regular grocery store shelves or freezer. A couple of months ago, we got a prerecorded message from our local police department warning us that there were a lot of break-ins in our neighborhood. I think it was pretty great that they went out of their way to warn us. There's not much you can do if you have expensive rims though. If your neighborhood is going south, and you can afford to convert your carport to a garage it may be worth it. I hope you have your walking buddy tonight :) |
I thought that everyone diets their whole life.
That is what my Mom does. She is always conscious of what she is eating. (Of course, in my mind, I see her as having something close to an eating disorder -- not hard to see patterns of disordered eating and thinking among her siblings.) |
Had a client cancel this afternoon because she is sick, she will call me to reschedule when she is feeling better. She was to be a new client.
So that means I have a 2 hour window of time to do my laundry. Get that out of the way today instead of tomorrow. Other than brunch at the diner that jeff and I frequent, tomorrow I don't have any plans. I will have to face cleaning my house or working on the yard....there is no excuse to keep me from doing some work around the house even though I avoid it like the plague. I have a client at 3 and then 4;30 for a friend of mine. My friend has been being treated for cancer for a year now I think....Her cancer has had a turn of events. She is on a feeding tube now. Today is her birthday and her husband contacted me to come to the hospital to give her a pedicure. So I will go around 4:30 since her feedings are continuous and meal time is not an issue. AT 2pm He has arranged to have some other friends of hers to play flute for her...That is her instrument...she will have time to rest before I get there. They are well respected in the community and are lovely people have a wonderfully full family who have been so supportive. She has been hospitalized since july 19th which I was unaware of until today. There are many happy birthday wishes on facebook today for her. I am not going to charge them for my services because she is a friend and because I believe it is time for hospice and I volunteer for hospice patients. I will have plenty of time to comfort and pamper her before running home for a bite to eat and then meeting stephanie at 7pm at planet fitness. It will be hard because she is a friend..... The cats are doing ok on their new food and limited amounts. Hazel finished her bowl last night early before I went to bed so I added some more to her dish but not to hatties. Hattie is the one on the diet not hazel who is very petite and thin, I have not given them any treats and they don't seem to mind...hattie only cried a couple of times. Jeff feeds hattie too many treats and I am not sure if he can get away with not giving in when he gets home. They are such creatures of routine. Treat time was twice a day, hattie would cry and wake us up early in the morning begging for treats. They have been silent for the most part since jeff has been away. They are really his cats. Our regular pet sitter will be on vacation next weekend so will be unable to take care of the cats so I asked my friend stephanie if she would be able to do that and she said yes. I insisted that I pay her...it is a lot to ask some one to come twice a day. One load in the washer, one load drying. one hour left before my next appointment...think I timed it right. All I have to do is hang my scrubs up and not iron them! Have saved alot on dry cleaning bills since last november...that is when I bought these new scrubs at my lowest weight. So now they are all too tight. Sigh I will properly fit into them in time. bizi |
I just got back from planet fitness and walked on the tred mill for
5K(3.1 miles) first time in a while. I was jogging a year ago and injured my thigh so I stopped. I actually jogged a 10k in november that about killed me I was not prepared for it, I hurt for days afterward. I met my girl friend and we talked and walked, it was great. She is thinking about joining. Though she has another place to check out which offers more things for her like classes, yoga and has a pool to swim. But costs more.... I hope she joins Planet fitness but that is being selfish of me. I WANT A WALKING BUDDY!http://forums.psychcentral.com/image...es/biggrin.gif bizi |
I am a bit hypo and have been on the internet far too long......

My friend in the hospital is doing much better than I thought. she is healing and has a great attitude. Maybe she is not a candidate for hospice yet?
bizi |
I'm sorry that your friend is in hospice. I'm glad that you're going to be pampering her today. It will be a nice bonding experience for the two of you as well. It sounds like she has an excellent support system, and I'm happy to hear that :hug::hug:
I wish your friend would join up at your gym. It's good to have a buddy to help motivate you. It's so hard to feed two cats separately when they have separate needs. They may be creatures of habit, but they also may end up sneaking food from one another despite those habits. Hazel will get what she needs. I spoil out cats, but not everyday. My husband likes to play with them, and usually chooses the day I vacuum to dump piles of catnip all over them, and the floor  |

Obviously, if she stays in the hospital much longer, it's likely she's not ready for hospice. |
Just to be real I measured my self.
I will put down measurements from october of last year and then this morning Body part measured:......... Oct 2015.......August 2016 right upper arm.................. 11.................12.5 butt........................ ............ 38.25............41.25 calf........................ ............ 14.25............14.5 2" above belly button......... 27.5..............30.75 hips........................ ............ 36.5..............39.75 breasts..................... .......... 35.5..............37 weight...................... .......... 140...............156.5 upper thigh........................ 22.5..............25 2" below belly button.......... 31.5..............37.5 (6 inch gain!) time to get to work! bizi I tried real hard to make columns but alas it comes out like this. You get the drift though, inches gained in all areas! |
Really happy.
In 90 degree weather I did 2 hours of yard work trimming back bushes, (I created a large yard waste pile) pulling vines out virginia creeper that was wrapped around the jasmine on the fence. I accidentally pulled up one of the few plants left so I dug a little hole and put it back into the ground and covered it with good dirt and then watered it. It is now raining so that will water it some more. I hope that it grows other wise I will lose the whole remaining vine ...unfortunately. It is a white lattice fence and the vine looks terrible now that I removed dead vines and all of the creeper that should not have been there. I guess any greenery looks better than none. Maybe I should have left it there.:( sigh While trimming the bushes in the front yard I noticed the bed room window needs repairing and the windows are green from mold...I looked up and the fascia at the top along the roof has green mold as well. LOOKS TERRIBLE! I wonder how long that has been going on???? I have not been paying attention to our house, neglecting it. and jeff doesn't really help either. He will do things if I ask him....music is his thing, house is not so much. Don't know whether the hose will reach that far to wash it or not. I would have to get on a ladder to do that. It is only raining a little bit and looks like it won't last long so that is most pressing job as far as I am concerned. We don't want to look like we don't keep up our house. As far as I can tell the mold is only on the front right side of the fascia in the front of the house, facing west. That bedroom window is a pushed out window the wood is rotting and needs to be replaced. these are the original windows and the house is 46 years old. All of the windows are terrible insulators and there is condensation on the outside of the windows every morning, we run the air conditioner cooler at night then during the day. The shutters need to be painted too. The 15 sets of windows have many panes to them with vinyl separators between each of the 12 panes of glass per window. That is 180 pieces of glass! And that doesn't include any of the doors which have 48 panes, I just counted them. (I don't even think they make windows like this anymore). Or the front door that has decorative beveled little glass pieces. We have a lot of light in this house! None of the windows in the back of the house facing the back yard have curtains so you can see all of the greenery and natural light that comes in, it makes the large room feel even larger. There are blue glass bottles and nick nacks on the window ledge. Love this feature! Since it is a punched out window with a bench on the inside of the bedroom, I don't know or have a clue how to fix the rotten wood nor replace the window. Wonder if the window people could repair the wood around the window or if we would have to hire a carpenter to do that? Nobody says we have to replace all of the windows in the house but that might look weird just fixing the front bedroom one. There are 2 more sets of windows in the front of the house, one for the living room and the other in the dining room. On another note we should get estimates to convert the car port to a garage for safety issues. There have been car break ins.... Well the sun is out and it has stopped raining now. So I will think about cleaning those windows. Well I have written a book, and if you have, thank you for keeping up with it. Little hypo here. bizi |
success!
I used elbow grease and dish washing soap on a ladder and scrubbed the fascia and windows. Got most of the mold off and only half wet as I wore a poncho, a disposable one. The ladder kept sinking in the dirt as the ground was wet from raining but I managed to stay on it leaning my weight. I had to get in the bushes to do some parts of it...that was not fun. Over all I am so glad that is done it looks 100% better. When I checked the inside of the house there was water...not a lot. It cleaned up quickly. I ate a bowl of veggie soup and some chicken salad and a bit of tabouli. It was all very good! bizi |
Bizi,
That was a lot of work: 1. doing inventory 2. getting mold off. You might consider leaving the garage situation and start fixing one or two windows at a time. (The windows are part of your security too.) Most likely you need a city permit for the windows. (Hubby and I have hurricane impact windows.) M |
Quote:
thank you bizi Did you install those windows yourself or were they already there when You moved in? |

It was one of my conditions (part of an agreement with hubby) about moving out of our apt. (He wanted to own. I wanted to be safe.) Home Depot Window Replacement Information - Modernize The windows offer good insulation -- both against the heat and against the noise outside.:) M |
We live in an attached building.
We only have a few windows compared to your number of windows. =-=- I recall that we ordered the windows before we moved in but it took them about six weeks to go through the permissions and city code office: 1) homeowners association 2) city permit The installation probably took one day. M |

Thank you mari!
I looked at the home depot window site looks like it could cost anywhere from 8-$9,000. We would have to use our line of credit on the house. We have the exterior of the bed room wood work that needs repairing so don't know how much that will cost. bizi |

You have a lovely house. You do not have to do everything all at once. Is that bed room a strong safe room for a hurricane? You need one safe area -- like an inside closet or bathroom or room. Severe Weather Safety: Safety in Your Home Quote:

You may want to get a *free* quote from a contractor in case the wood surrounding the windows needs to be replaced. You could also get a quote for converting your carport into a garage. He/she could handle any permits involved if you hired them. I don't know how the cost of the contractor compares to the cost of hiring home depot or someone else to install new windows.
Please be careful going up there on the ladder with nobody around to hold it for you. You can always get the exterior of the house power washed to improve its appearance. I know it's hard to resist that drive to get things done when you're hypo though  You did a lot of work yesterday! It always feels good to get so much done like that. I really enjoy that part of euphoric hypomania. I hope it made the time without Jeff go by more quickly, and I hope you tired yourself out, and were able to sleep. Just please keep an eye on your symptoms… and everything else I always say… |
Mari,
Both bathrooms don't have any windows though each one meets to the exterior. It is a very compact house. I like the idea of having hurrricane proof windows instead of boarding ours up, we have done that twice since we moved in in 2002. Never know when if this year is going to be the one.... have a good day. ((((HUGS)))) bizi I could not find "hurricane proof" windows on that site, please, could you help me with that? thanks |
thanks kay,
sinking into the m ud was sort of freaky and I was very careful. soap and rain, I had good shoes on....I know that I was taking a risk, felt compelled to do it anyway. I looked at the windows from the inside out and they are still dirty, so will have to take paper towels to them and windex. I will have to get into the bushes again but at least not on the ladder. I really want those windows to sparkle! I told jeff about my work, no real response from him...oh well. I called my mom and got the wanted praise from her. I told her the story and She knew what I went thru. She does that sort of thing often. I should have taken before and after pictures! Rats! bizi I am on weight neutral meds so can't blame the meds for my 20 pound weight gain. I blame over eating, drinking and lack of exercise and hormones. Have been dieting this week and am down 4 pounds but know that is part water weight since I am abstaining from drinking. I went to planet fitness on saturday night and walked one hour, felt good! bizi |
took a much needed shower and discovered 20 mosquito bites on my lower legs! oh well they don't itch so that is good, have a great day yall!

This has been interesting thread.
My husband has replaced lots of windows at different houses. Ive never know of anyone having to have a permit to do this. Good luck. Donna :grouphug: |

A contractor will likely cost less than home depot. That was just a random web site I found that describes those windows that are supposed to not shatter during hurricane winds. Yes, do be careful with being on the ladder. M |
thanks mari, I went to thumb tack and got the name of a richards renovation and repair man. We emailed at 9pm which I liked, some one not afraid to do business at night. I will call him tomorrow and set up a time for him to come over to give us an estimate.:)
bizi |
I actually counted my mosquito bites over 50!
some of them itch.... bizi |
Bizi,
Be careful with the mosquitoes. M |
I'm glad you got in touch with a repairman. I think the fact that he emailed you at 9pm is a good sign. It shows that he is invested in his business, and is probably a hard worker.
I think "hurricane windows" is a layman's term to describe windows with a certain type of shatterproof glass. 50 mosquito bites is a lot! They may not have been itchy immediately but… if they do, with so many, you'd be better off with Benadryl than painting your legs with calamine lotion. I think it's great that you lost 4 lbs! It doesn't matter exactly how you lost it, you've been exercising will power and you should be proud of yourself :) Do you think you will go to the gym regularly? I've abandoned the exercise bike, and need to get back on it one of these days… |
thanks kay.
There were only 7 reviews posted on thumb tack website. Another site that he was listed under there was only one review. He doesn't have a web site of his own...so I wonder about that. He has over 30 years experience so that is good. I wonder how you are feeling this morning. Thank you for your support. I have been Af since august 1st. will abstain and continue dieting up until friday when we go to the beach. Bush whackers think chocolate frosty! very fattening!!! I have lost 4 pounds since aug 1st, bet it is water weight loss from bloat but I will take it, surly there has to be some fat loss!!!!! I don't want to go over board in florida this weekend. I will try real hard to eat well since we eat out every meal. Had chipotle last night...very good but too much food and very salty. bizi |
Bizi
It might be that his best references he can give in person. Usually they can give you names of people to contact. Lots of our older folks in business don't have websites. Good luck with the diet. Donna :grouphug: |

I ate a low carb pizza tonight.
They must have changed them up a bit. It has a kibbi crust but this was thicker than usual. I had to eat it with a fork. Did not taste as good either, very disappointing. It did have yummy well seasoned eggplant and red peppers.:) I only ate half of the 10 inch so will have the rest tomorrow maybe for lunch. Lapizzeria had a special buy one get one free! So hubbys chicken alfredo was on the house. Glad that he is home. He is in bed already he only had 5 hours of sleep last night. I need to get off this computer. bizi |
Is the crust made of Ground Sirloin and Wheat?
M |
I don't know if it's because of the cost or maintenance involved, but a lot of small businesses choose not to have websites. As Donna mentioned, older people in business are less likely to have them. I find it frustrating at times. At least the repairman you hired uses email.
I'm sorry the pizza wasn't better. Is it really low carb crust if there's so much of it? Maybe another pizza place in your area has a better version. At least you can eat the tasty toppings… maybe you can pick them off and eat them with some rice? I think you've been doing great! You can be naughty on your vacation and return to your restrictions when you come back home :) |
Thanks kay,
I have the two companies to check out. one small company and one big company, both from thumb tack. I have yet to call either company. I need to do that because I have written both of them and they have answered quickly. I will get 2 bids from both of them. One bid for just repairing the outer area surrounding the window that is the only wood of the house that is rotting and replacing that bed room window and another to do that repair and then replace all of the other windows. I need to do that soon. have a great day yall! bizi |
You don't owe anything to either of these companies since you are the customer. Take all the time you need.
|
I called and contacted the smaller company and cancelled the appointment saying I would call him in the future next week.
The rotting wood has been this way since we bought the house, albeit it is worse now, that was 15 years ago. I broke my diet. went to whole foods and had a burger, went home and had spinach and onions and mushrooms sauteed. It was very good. Jeff and I are leaving tomorrow for a quick trip to pensicola beach florida. It is supposed to rain all weekend from a weather front/activity. Oh well. Hoping that it doesn't pour, will have to go to a museum or 2 if it does rain. All beach activity will cease. My bipolar is acting up, been hypo for a while now. Missed some appointments at work. NOT GOOD! Called a friend and she helped me talk out a solution for one of my clients that I missed an appointment. Send him a gift certificate so I did just that this afternoon. I freaked out yesterday. A nurse called me and asked me about my credentials. She wants to start her own foot care business, HERE where I live. YiKes! Why would I help my competition? So I called all of my friends, all professionals in different fields. some thought I should not call her back. Others thought I should text her pointing her to the way of the state board of nursing for directives. others thought that I should return her call. I am going to think on it. bizi |
It was good of you to follow up on your initial call to that repair business to let them know you were putting the estimate off. Many people wouldn't go through the trouble. And like I said, there's no rush.
Regarding the nurse who contacted you about starting her own business: Follow the advice of your friends who suggested you text her to refer her to the the LA Board of Nursing. That way, you don't have to disclose your own credentials, you are not encouraging competition in your own area, and you are discouraging her from asking for advice from you in the future (which would likely happen if you were friendly when you returned her phone call). Do not provide anything to her in print via email either… you don't want anything coming back to bite you in the ***. Considering how long your hypo episode has lasted, I recommend you contact your pdoc when you get back from your vacation so you can shut it down. It's not resolving on its own, and it's best to get it treated before it gets worse  I'm sorry to hear that the weather is going to be so bad on your trip :( I hope that you and Jeff can still manage to have a good time visiting those museums and you enjoy eating out at some nice restaurants (my favorite thing to do when vacationing). |
