My hubby Jeff

Just wanted you to know that jeff went to the ER today.
He is still having symptoms but the doctor there ruled out him having a heart attack. In the morning he is to see his regular internist who will order him a tred mill stress test and echo cardiogram and jeff is to ask about having a calcium heart screen done too. He may refer him to a cardiologist instead of treating jeff himself. We will know more tomorrow.
Jeff started having symptoms on our way home from pensicola on sunday.
WE were diverted off the interstates that were closed due to flooding.
He experienced chest pain and then it went to his shoulder and then his back and effected his neck. I took over driving as this was scarying me to death. This went on for hours.....

Then the symptoms seemed to go away completely. And we got home safely only an hour later than usual due to the detour.
Over the next few days he experienced dizzyness taking anti vert, that helped.
His chest feels tight.....what eventually led him to the er today is that he had severe dizzyness today and tightness in his chest then he broke out in a sweat during a group meeting. He drove himself to the hospital not telling any one at school. He did not call me. I discovered a text from him 30 minutes after he sent it and rushed to the ER where he was awaiting the blood test results. His chest exray and ekg came out fine. He was wheeled up to a lab for an ultra sound of his legs checking for clots, there were none. After a while his blood work came back, all good so he was discharged.
Jeff said his chest still feels tight.
Please keep us in your thoughts.

Dear Bizi,

Sending prayers.

The docs will figure this out. The tesst will show them what is going on
and they will discuss with the two of you any necessary treatment.

The more information you get, the less scary things are.:grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:

Has Jeff had CPK enzyme tests? Is he still taking a statin?

Statins affect the muscles in some people, raising the CPK levels.
This is potentially dangerous if not tested for as it can damage the kidneys too.

People on statins should take a quality CoQ-10... to replace what is lost because of the statins. If not the heart muscle weakens, and it can be very serious.

Qunol is a new high performance CoQ-10 which has solubility technology built in.

Qunol CoQ1 Supplement | Coenzyme q1 | Ubiquinol Supplement : Qunol CoQ1

Some people taking Crestor, need dose reductions, if they have a specific enzyme in the P450 cytochrome group missing genetically.

bizi 08-20-2016 05:36 PM

For the past 5 weeks he has been taking atorvastatin 10mg.
He also takes coq10 200mg I beleive of NOW brand.
thanks for the info mrs. D I appreciate your watchful eye on us.

mrsD 08-20-2016 05:54 PM

Please read the label of the product you have. If it is not solubilized like the new Qunol, then most of the 200mg is not being absorbed by the GI tract.

Like other insoluble types of supplements, there are new versions becoming available to improve bioavailability.

Alpha lipoic acid, and curcumin are examples that have new forms available to improve their actions.

One Qunol capsule of 100mg is about equivalent to 300mg of the older version of Co Q-10. You can find Qunol at WalMart and Costco at affordable prices.

Best wishes to you both, bizi... :)

Mari 08-20-2016 07:54 PM

Bizi,

Atorvastatin / Lipitor has side effects similar to what you describe.

Sometimes my husband is happy I call him at work for something and appreciates the opportunity to talk to me. Other times… not so much

Dmom3005 08-25-2016 10:43 AM

Guessing that he thinks if he doesn't call the office it will go away.

If that is why you called.

I want him to get the calcium heart screen! It is a simple test to see how the arteries are, if their is placque build up.
My sisters office manager 's husband had one done and it showed blockages, he had to have 4 way bypass surgery. NO SYMPTOMS!
jeffs dad had open heart surgery so it runs in the family.

I had that test done because my PCP was being careful when I was often complaining about chest pain due to anxiety.

The test itself takes exactly 90 seconds.

Insurance did not cover it. I had to pay exactly 90.00 dollars.

I had zero blockage. It was a relief and worth the money.

(Zero blockage likely because I have been on the calcium channel blocker
Verapamil since the 1990s.)

There is some exposure to radiation and such. . . . .Some tests
have more or less than others I believe.

finally my husband let me look at his lab results.
How many times must I ask him about this?
His total cholesterol was 276 and triglycerides were 170.
after a month on meds his total came back 180 and trig are 52. So there was much improvement!
When he was in the er his liver enzymes were slightly elevated. He had a lot to drink in florida(as did I) the doctor seemed to chalk it up to that. But it could be due to the statin. The new cardiologist office called him today and the time does not work out with his schedule. He is going to call them back tomorrow in the morning. Hubby has a very busy semester ahead of him.
bizi

OhKay 08-26-2016 05:20 AM

Jeff is lucky his wife is a nurse. He should listen to you, but many men have problems with that. I know my husband does.

I know you will make him find the time to get to the cardiologist sooner rather than later :hug::hug:

Will he allow you to go to the appointment with him?
I have to go with my husband when he goes for the physicals he needs yearly to renew his professional licenses, but I don't go in.

If he won't let you go, maybe he will allow you to scribble down a few notes to take with him? IDK, maybe that's asking too much?

bizi 08-26-2016 08:40 AM

Thank you kay.
I already bugged him enough about having the calcium heart screen ordered.
He has a very busy morning and my guess is that the doctors office will be closed after noon. So we will see.
Thank you for your support!

How frustrating Bizi
I suppose all the urgency is gone now that he is feeling better…
You know him best, and know the best way to get him to the MD, if he will listen.

That was so nice of you to remember, and to ask BF

Mari 09-08-2016 12:03 PM

Bizi,

He will go. He knows how important it is.
