possible concussion?

This seems so wildly implausible but given that I'm experiencing pretty strong symptoms I thought I would check if someone could comment: stood up from a chair and my earbuds (that were in my ears at the time) caught on the chair bringing my head to an abrupt stop. Didn't experience any symptoms at first but several days later after doing some aerobic exercises started to feel some vestibular symptoms. Could I have caused a concussion here?

Mark in Idaho 09-06-2016 06:47 PM

No. The exercises were likely the trigger.

thanks for the response Mark.

i thought that too but i have been exercising vigorously for about 2-3 months at this point.. why would i experience symptoms now?

logically how many G's could have been exerted on my head due to the sudden stopping?

The buds would have come apart before any substantial G forces were exerted.

If you have been exercising for some time, then it may have just been a random trigger of vestibular systems. Plenty of things can trigger vestibular issues besides a concussion.

Maybe the ear buds caused a brief negative pressure to your ears as they came out.

I experienced severe vertigo last night for absolutely no discernible reason. No changes to my routine. I have never experience that before.

The ear buds actually got stuck inside my ears so they didn't come out.

Do you think I should take it easy for a while before slowly resuming the exercise at a much lower level? If this was a concussion - I know it wasn't - how long do they suggest you rest before resuming some activity according to Buffalo protocol?

Mark in Idaho 09-07-2016 12:34 PM

You don't have any level of symptoms that would fit the Buffalo protocol. No head ache. No cognitive or memory difficulties. Just a bit if balance.

I suggest you get on with your life and just move a bit slower if you feel off balance.

IBR,

Based on my experience, yours is totally random timing.

I have unexplained random setbacks as well. Never really sure why or what because there never seems to be a pattern.

Some of it does seem to be around pretty strenuous exercise at times but I'm not sure.

After this incident, it seems I'm experiencing orthostatic intolerance (BP drops when I stand and I feel somewhat dizzy). Could this indicate a concussion? Any suggestions for temporary remedies until this resolves? Other thoughts? I feel like this happens to me every time my neck spasms in some sort of incident.

Mark in Idaho 09-11-2016 09:45 AM

It could be upper cervical inflammation. That does not mean a concussion. It is easy to aggravate a neck injury and cause inflammation. If you are dizzy when you stand up, take you time standing up. I have to get up in 2 steps. I move to the front of the chair, pause for a brief moment, then I stand up. I only move in one dimension at a time. Been that way since orthopedic surgery in 1987.

Thanks Mark: my bigger concern is that I can't do any aerobic activity as this makes the symptoms worse. How do you get around that?

Mark in Idaho 09-11-2016 03:11 PM

You just said you have been exercising vigorously for the past 2-3 months. What symptoms is that exercise causing ?

If vigorous exercise causes symptoms, do something less vigourous.

injuredbutrecoverin 09-12-2016 01:16 PM

basic walking is causing me to get dizzy right now. this might be completely unrelated to the head jerk as there are no other symptoms from that.
