This site is NOT affiliated with the original Brain talk

Just wanted you all to know that this place is in no way, shape or form affiliated with our original Brain talk!!!

LBK425 08-22-2006 04:43 PM

I hope that this site was put up as true help for Braintalk members and not for some other, inappropriate reason.

Pamster 08-22-2006 04:59 PM

Let's hope that the real Brain Talk is up again real soon...

Hi F2G & LBK!

Do you have a problem with the existance of this? Certainly the orignal one has left many hanging w/o any info at all...how inappropriate is that?

Al

forr2grls 08-22-2006 06:12 PM

Hi Al! We just want everyone to know that this place does not have anything to do with John Lester or Brain Talk. I have a porblem with someone using the same name, same format, colors, etc that JL used for the original BT. I'm not sure but i thought BrainTalk was copyrighted. I dont want others to assume this is related to the original BT. John is working hard to get BT back online.

LBK425 08-22-2006 07:24 PM

Hi Al, good to see you.

I am just concerned that it might get misused in some way. Maybe I worry too much...
I think it's great for everyone to have a place to gather and touch base and I hope it was set up with the best intentions. But, I also think it's important for people to realize that it is not affiliated with the original BT. People can make their own decisions.

Take care.

aklap 08-22-2006 08:29 PM

Oh I understand fully. BrainTalk or Brain Talk...the same or different ;)

ZombieSlayer 08-22-2006 08:35 PM

Probably just different enough...

Temporary chat rooms (see my sig) will stay up until after BT comes back online.

stevem53 08-22-2006 08:41 PM

Why dont we all just be grateful that we have a place to come and connect with those we lost touch with, and get the support and info that many of us desperately need

Also that Dr John was caring and compassionate enough to provide this service free of charge to anyone and everyone who visits here

There are all sorts of other message board forums with these same colors

ZombieSlayer 08-22-2006 08:43 PM

I believe that everyone is grateful. It is important though to ensure people know this has nothing to do with Mr. Lester.

I am glad DocJohn set up these forums. I sincerely hope they won't last long though (meaning that BT will be back up soon)...no offense DocJohn :)

Steve,
A voice of reason to be reckoned with...not unlike the wisdom expressed in the Bobby quote that you use...my personal favorite.

Here is what DocJohn posted on August 11
Quote:

On July 20, 2006, Braintalk.org seems to have gone offline and hasn’t been seen since. The message announcing its hardware/software failure hasn’t been updated.

Anybody have any word or update as to its status? With a large community of over 50,000 members, such a long downtime is virtually unheard of these days of cheap servers and storage space…

If anybody knows anything, we’re happy to lend a technical hand to get them back online and operational.

What I am hearing is an offer to help not to take over. I appreciate what DocJohn has done here.

Thanks mama..Ive thought about changing that quote a couple of times, but it has stuck in my head ever since I heard Bobby Kennedy say it, and for us with Parkinsons and our caregivers, we certainly need to think out of the box to summon the hope that medical science will one day end this nightmare for us all..;)

I think it was a gesture of kindness and caring to put this board up...as a temporary site...until BrainTalk resolves its issues. Clearly, many people depend on such support, and have been lost without it.

DocJohn says this:

Quote:

Hi folks,

We set up this temporary set of forums so you can continue gaining support from friends online while the original BrainTalk resolves its technical issues.

Please feel free to use this place as much as you'd like, and let me know if you need anything else.

DocJohn
This is an interim solution until JL can get BrainTalk up and running....and we hope it will be back with all of our back posts chock full of good information. I'd hate to have to start over again!

I think apprecation is appropriate! There hadn't been any update in over a month...for something stated would take days. I think many people are greatly relieved to be able to talk to one another again!

Thank you Doc John for your willingness to help.

DocJohn 08-23-2006 08:11 AM

Let me just confirm what people have said --

We have only setup this set of forums as a temporary place until the original Braintalk comes back online. I know John Lester professionally, have been involved in some of the same work as he has, but I too have not been able to get any word from him (which may very well be because he's traveling).

So given that it's been a month, and I hate to see communities such as Braintalk suffer because of a technical glitch, I thought I'd lend a hand by putting up this one. (I should also note that the colors/format of this forum looks a lot like BT because it's the default colors/setup for the forum software!)

I will reiterate -- we have no intentions of keeping these forums running once the original BT is back online and running. I just wanted to lend a hand because that's one of the good things I do online -- understand online communities and technology and ensure both run smoothly! :)

Best,
DocJohn

Gosh...I think most places have internet for travelers, don't they?

Heck, even if there isn't internet...JL is technologically advanced enough to conjure up an internet connection with just a gum wrapper & power cord ;)

Thanks again DocJohn!!

I agree with everyone, who said,...

"Let's be grateful, we have a place to re-connect & share".;)

Amen!!!! This is no time to get paranoid about motives. There are still good guys roaming the earth, willing to give a stranger shelter from a storm. ;) Besides, nobody in their right mind would want to "take over" this huge dysfunctional group. :D

From what I know of DocJohn, he has real caring involved. ;)

Beck 08-26-2006 10:29 AM

Awesome...

Very glad this place is here even if temporarily.

Anyone that has a problem with it being here and is offended, certainly doesn't have to hang around here or try to convince others to not hang around.

What else are we supposed to do until our beloved BT comes back online?

By using the same name for a temp site makes it easier for old members that are lost in cyberspace to find their home away from home.

Anyone that has issues with this site are all their own and need to look at that.

reverett123 08-26-2006 11:28 AM

Never hurts to have a spare

I have taken the liberty of starting the Yahoo group noted in my signature below in case BT 2 disappears without warning. The group will be unmoderated until further notice but everyone is welcome to use it. Bookmark it just in case you need a spare.

Wheelin Rev 08-26-2006 06:30 PM

I'm a newb to BT2 and I don't think I was ever a member of BT. I'm a little confused  with the significance of the two forums and URLs.

Anyway, I'm here to learn and share whatever I can. :)

Dave

Beck 08-26-2006 06:59 PM

Wheelin - The original Braintalk had over 50,000 members and numerous forums many of which are listed on the index here.

Mid July, BT crashed. There was 1 update as to the issue July 20th then silence for over a month. Many of us thought BT was dead and gone forever.

Doc John was so gracious and kind to kick up this site he named Braintalk2. It is my assumption he named it similar to help old members find it.

The administration of BT2 is not the same administration of BT. There is actually a bit of political yow yow going on with the deal.

Doc John stated it was never his intention to replace BT just provide us a place for support until BT came back online.

So, any disgruntled comments you may read are likely from those that were frustrated at no updates as to what happened to our beloved Braintalk for over a month.

What you DO need to know is that this community is full of loving, compassionate, helpful people that want to support and help others that are walking similar paths.

Glad you found the forums and hope you get what you need.

If you happen to come across disgruntled posts, move on and know that the group is going through a deal at the moment. It is temporary and will pass.

Blessings and cheers.

Wheelin Rev 08-26-2006 07:11 PM

Thanks Beck! I can understand the frustration with sites going down and not being able to talk to anybody. Been there, done that. As the webmaster too! Running a site ain't the easiest thing to do. Anybody that complains when a site goes down should try managing their own site from start to finish and they'll see what I mean. LOL :D

My hat's off to DocJohn and John Lester. Both deserve a lot of credit for just making these kinds of sites available for the rest of us. Neither should be criticized nor belittled. They both are apparently working for the better for all of us.

Peace. :)

Welcome to BT 2.I hope you stick around when Bt1 comes back as well...

Hey, everybody.

When I was checking to see if BrainTalk was back up yet a few weeks ago, I noticed Doctor John posting a query wondering if there was any way that he could help.

Since he's in the same area as the original BrainTalk and since he already had server space, I think it was wonderful of him to offer a landing place for us while we we're waiting for the other server to be healed.

I truly suspect that the reason for the similar name was so that anyone doing a search (say on Google) would find this place -- much easier than sending up hot air balloons :D

Let's just be grateful that someone saw a bunch of hurting people and offered to help for awhile. I think it's **WONDERFUL**

Barbara

paula_w 08-31-2006 07:58 PM

this should be in the perfect site thread

Well it makes me tired just thinking of it but I have to admit I've always wanted this to be possible...and only people interested need even try, WE sit and ask you about your fervid belief that BUsh and Republcans must go, but you can't call them any names. YOu can cite his actions but no derogatory talk about his intelligence.. NO JUDGEMENTS of anyone, just actions and why they are bad for us. No false accusations. Just what we know he did and how it makes us feel. Actions/ consequences. to tell what is wrong. Share why this scares you and to what degree instead if screaming fascism. And vice versa. If it gets insulting - lockit -repeating offenders temp followed by perm banning. IF it doesn't work, concede immediately that it wasn't a bad idea but this group of people can't do it. And that's that...

I cannot get in. I know that as of last week there were no new people being added. When will this change? I had been going to MGH, back sometime between 96 or 98. I have been coming here a LONG TIME! I would LOVE to get back in and catch up with all my long lost friends!

Thanks
Debby

ZombieSlayer 08-31-2006 10:40 PM

DebbyLkay;

You can't get in because the forums are offline at the moment for repairs and upgrades. Hopefully they'll be back up soon :)

You should be able to use your regular name and password to log in once it's back :)

DebbyLkay 09-01-2006 08:09 PM

Chat!

Thanks for the updated information! You said soon, any idea on a date? I was not sure what was going on, I know Corky was looking into this for me also, but could not get an answer from anyone. She was in some chat room and no answer! LOL I have seen the other chat rooms that are or were up just the other day. Does anyone use them? When I go in, no one is in there! :(

ZombieSlayer 09-01-2006 08:26 PM

No I don't know when BrainTalk will be up. But if the software gets to Mr. Lester by the late date (Sept 5th) then I'd guess they could be up as early as next weekend.

Regarding the chatrooms...the BrainTalk chatrooms have quite a bit of folks on (see the link in my signature) throughout the day :)

The chatrooms I set up as a temporary refuge is very empty most of the time (which is a good thing).

DebbyLkay 09-01-2006 08:49 PM

I am trying the information listed below and its not working . Is the user name BrainTalk1 and password smile? I guess I'm not getting it. HELP! LOL

"BrainTalk's chatrooms are back! <---click

Sign in using your BrainTalk1 name and PW :)"

shotspine 09-01-2006 09:12 PM

Hi Debby.....
From what I understand...use your username and password that you used on Braintalk (not this one, the one that is still down for repair). Hope this works for you. Post in Forum Feedback for help.

ZombieSlayer 09-02-2006 04:55 AM

If you didn't register with BrainTalk before it crashed, unfortunately you won't be able to get into the chatrooms until BrainTalk comes back online.

DebbyLkay 09-02-2006 04:41 PM

Oh Man~

I did register before the crash, LONG before the crash, but cannot remember my screen name and password,. LOL Well if my name and password are still active, I will have to give that some thought! LOL

Thanks for the info!
