menopause symptoms....

I started having hot flashes a couple of weeks ago. not horrible no sweating during the day, so am thankful about that.
But I have been having some night sweats....hate them. I have one every few months.
I am wondering if my mood is being effected too.
and this weight gain.
sigh
I have not seen a period in a couple of months so that is good.
bizi
anyone relate?
I would be afraid to take hormones being bipolar 1.

Mari 11-14-2016 12:11 AM

Not everyone benefits from hormones.

See a doctor. She might have some insight and some suggestions.

Thanks mari, my regular Mdoc suggested black cohash.
My twin said to not take that. I don't think she believes in taking supplements.

Mari 11-16-2016 12:05 AM

An acupuncturist can help.

Good luck with the symptoms. I have had the night sweats for years.
And being hot during day. So I usually use a fan a lot.

bizi 11-18-2016 11:04 PM

I think I only had one hot flash today and I am grateful.
bizi

bizi 11-21-2016 10:00 AM

Well my symptoms have increased.
11-19-16 I started having hot flashes/night sweats....woke me up several times last night. Woke up groggy from terrible sleep and hit the snooze alarm which I have not done in ages. I have been getting up before the alarm.
Sigh....my twin sister complains about this too.
So I am following her symptoms by about 4 months behind her.

sigh

I'm sorry you are having to go through this, Bizi. I'm glad you can talk to your twin about it :hug::hug:

bizi 11-22-2016 08:53 AM

She said she has not had a period in 10 months but still gets cramps. which suck, I have not had one for about 2-3 months.

Dmom3005 11-22-2016 09:36 AM

Sending some hugs. I sure wish there were some fool proof answers.

I haven't had any luck coming up with any. The main thing I've learned
in the years I've been having issues with getting hot and then sweating
really bad. Is patience, that it will go away with a little time.
But mine is still here.

bizi 11-22-2016 09:43 AM

I am going to try black cohosh.
I am sorry donna that you still have symptoms.

Other women don't talk about menopause....
Do they just suffer in silence?
I feel like I am whining.
Thank goodness I don't sweat during the day like others.
That would be horrible.

I believe that it manifests differently for everyone. That
is why there is no typical version of how it plays out.

In my mother's case, she essentially cried at the drop of a hat (anything)
for four or five years.

OhKay 11-23-2016 06:31 AM

I don't think you're whining at all, Bizi

You don't feel well, and this must be difficult. You need to vent

bizi 11-23-2016 08:58 AM

I took the black cohosh last night and did not have any hot flashes
yeah! I took one pill of 80mg. I will take it during the day too.

I talk to my clients about menopause...most of them don't remember having symptoms. Maybe they just don't remember?

bizi

Dmom3005 11-23-2016 03:52 PM

Well I think we just all deal how we need to.

I know I turn on the fans and off the fans a lot. The heat
is on and off a lot too.

Donna :hug::grouphug:

bizi 11-25-2016 11:29 PM

I am averaging 1-2 hot flashes a day which is much better so I will continue taking the black cohosh.
bizi

bizi 11-26-2016 12:28 AM

I just had 2 in a row...
sigh
bizi

bizi 11-29-2016 11:25 PM

I was up all night last night.
and noticed that my face and hands are sweaty during the day when I have a hot flash....
the black cohosh is not working.
I just ordered a recommended blend of herbs to try(includes cohosh)
I ordered it from amazon and had a lot of positive reviews so it is worth a try.
It will arrive in a week.

I really hope it helps you Bizi

:grouphug:Good luck Bizi.

I will be looking to see how it works.

After reviewing the scientific evidence, the Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database, concluded that evening primrose oil is “possibly effective” for treatment of breast pain (but may not be effective for severe, long-term pain) and for treatment of osteoporosis when used in combination with calcium and fish oils. The review also found evening primrose oil “possibly ineffective” for treating PMS, ADHD, eczema, and hot flashes and night sweats due to menopause. The review found insufficient evidence to rate effectiveness of evening primrose oil for treating chronic fatigue syndrome, rheumatoid arthritis, complications of pregnancy, Sjogren’s syndrome and concluded that more evidence is needed to assess the possible benefit of EPO for the treatment of cancer, acne, multiple sclerosis, heart disease, high cholesterol, and Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. Weils:
Nutrition and Supplements – Herbs for Menopause
Try the following natural remedies and menopause treatments, including herbs:
  • Soy foods. The isoflavones in soy foods help balance hormone levels and have some estrogenic activity. There is ongoing research about the safety and efficacy of isolated soy isoflavone supplements. While the initial results look promising, we currently recommend using natural soy foods rather than supplements. Choose from tofu, soy milk, roasted soy nuts or tempeh.
  • Flaxseed. Substances called lignins in flaxseed are important modulators of hormone metabolism. Grind flaxseed daily in a coffee grinder at home and use 1 to 2 tablespoons a day.
  • Dong quai. Dong quai (Angelica sinensis) is known both in China and the West for its ability to support and maintain the natural balance of female hormones. It does not have estrogenic activity. This is one of the herbs for menopause that should not be taken if a woman is experiencing heavy bleeding.
  • Black cohosh (Cumicifuga racemosa). One of the best-studied traditional herbs for menopause, black cohosh is used to help alleviate some symptoms of menopause, and is considered an effective hot flash remedy. Black cohosh seems to work by supporting and maintaining hormonal levels, which may lessen the severity of hot flashes. Many women report that the herb works well but it isn’t effective for everyone. While any therapy that influences hormonal actions should be a concern, black cohosh does not appear to have estrogenic activity and thus may be safe for women with a personal or family history of breast cancer.
  • Vitamin E. A daily dose of 400 IUs of natural vitamin E (as mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols) can help alleviate symptoms of hot flashes in some menopausal women.
  • B vitamins. This group of water-soluble vitamins may help women deal with the stress of menopausal symptoms.
  • Evening primrose oil or black currant oil. These are sources of gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), an essential fatty acid that can help influence prostaglandin synthesis and help moderate menopausal symptoms.

OhKay 12-02-2016 06:54 AM

The herbs you ordered sound like they may be beneficial. I remember you said that they were highly rated. I rely a lot on high ratings (when there are a lot of ratings) for a product before I make a purchase.

If you're looking to supplement your diet with some soy, vanilla soy milk is pretty tasty…

bizi 12-02-2016 09:11 AM

Yes thanks for reminding me that soy milk can definitely help.
So thank you. I will get some, may take it at night before I go to bed.
I have never had soy milk before is the vanilla sweetened?
I had one hot flash last night that woke me up. not bad though, had to take off my leggings!
We keep the house cooler during winter days with the heat set on 68.
So will get some prim rose oil and soy milk.
bizi

OhKay 12-04-2016 07:49 AM

The vanilla soy milk I drank had to be sweetened, I just don't know with what. I was drinking it at a time when I wasn't concerned about those things. That was years ago. I'm sure there are different options now. If you can get it unsweetened, you could always sweeten it yourself with a high quality plain stevia.

bizi 12-04-2016 10:27 PM

I bought some silk vanilla lightly sweetened with stevia.
I will have some tonight.
I did not get the primrose oil...have enough things to take....
geesh!
bizi

bizi 12-05-2016 01:04 AM

I drank 8 oz of the soy milk, tasty!
See if that helps.
bizi

OhKay 12-05-2016 08:33 AM

I'm glad you liked the vanilla soy milk! Awesome you found it with stevia! :)

bizi 12-05-2016 07:51 PM

I had 3 hot flashes last night....very groggy this morning.
Thanks for your support.
bizi:)

Dmom3005 12-06-2016 11:27 AM

:grouphug:Bizi

I hope after a while the hot flashes don't wake you up during the night.
I usually get hot and cold all day. But at night I have fans on everywhere
I go. Its just so hot for me. I have finally gotten pretty much to where
I only wake up when I need to change shirts or go to bathroom.
