RSD and tattoos. Thoughts, and opinions please.
Hey everyone, Ive been reading on the site for a short while, glad to be here on this awesome site! I was recently diagnosed with r.s.d. in my shoulder/arm. Ive been really doing alot of research on this condition trying to learn as much as I can about it. Last week while getting a new tattoo(was actually nice to get my mind off of my other pain =+)), I began to wonder if a person who has r.s.d., if its at all possible for it to spread to another area just from getting a tattoo? (i.e. leg, or foot) Just a thought, I hope this doesnt sound stupid. Just wondered what you all think about this? Has anyone heard anything about this? Any opinions? Thanks.

I have gotten 2 more tattoos since getting RSD and it has yet to spread to those areas!! I have had RSD for 5 years now adn have gotten the first one after RSD about a year or so after and the last one i got was in January!! My doc said it shouldnt do anything bc it only on the first couple layers of skin and the nerves are deeper then that...
I wouldnt worry to much about it!! What did you get??? AMBER |
Hi Girls,
I don't have any tattoos but I just wanted to say hi to a newbie and say I have never seen this question asked before.

I personally have one tattoo before RSD on my ankle. I want another couple tattoos, but honestly I am scared.
I also want body work done on various places and that worries me the most. I might suck it up/might not. Hugs. Welcome to the group. |
Body work, Christine?/ nooooooooooooooo big no... no there! As for the tattoos, I will never get one! too chicken I guess!! LOL
|
LoL.. too chicken??
I feel asleep when i was getting the one on my shoulder blade ,.. not kiding.. it was like a soothing vibrating thing.. ( no comments..lol) they really dont hurt unles you put them in a bony spot.. and the rib cage.. that kills!! ;) Amber |
LOL Amber. Ya really fell asleep?? Man, then these guys of mine.. sons.. say:"ohhhhhhhh mom man, those hurt!" My oldest has a Big one on his shoulder.. well lower than his shoulder, and was sayin' things like dang, owww, oh, don't touch it, which of corse I never did, hey I must be loosing it here. I said my younger son had one too.. not true..it's my nephew who is 22 and he kept saying OMG that hurt.. blah blah blah. Good for you, Amber for your bravery as the song says;"WE ARE WOMEN"! LOL Love, Desi

Hi there,
I guess that I may have a slightly different take on this but I have a friend who got CRPS from a paper cut on her thumb, so I would not be taking the risk of breaking the skin for something that was not necessary. But as I said, this is my opinion only and I dislike tattoos so I am probably not a good person to ask:wink: Take care Tayla:hug: |
LOL>> THANKS>. got it back in my head... ohh good lord.. if i didnt just turn off the food network channel bc it was makin me hungry i could have got it out.. but nope.. its in there all nite.... :p

I have fallen off a balcony @ 11 - didn't get it. Tattoo @ 18 - didn't get it. The accident I had on my birthday Dec. 2006 caused it in my Right knee, however, my elbow bone (which I bruised the bone, and my fingers) didn't get it. I got it immediately in my knee. I hit my hip that same night, and it took until July 3rd for it to spread to my hip. All input is good input. Hugs. |
Thanks for all the responses, you are all awesome! The reason I brought this up was during the healing process my leg and foot really swelled up bad, and my leg is really red all the way up to my knee. Now I have had several other tattoos, and I know this is pretty much normal. The piece I just got took 10 hours in 2 sittings, but it just made me think since I had just been diagnosed less than 2 weeks ago, if this "could" make it spread, if anything just wanted to get everyone thinkin. Just for those who are curious the tattoo I got was a japanese dragon, with some traditional japanese swirls, and a fiery sky with a sun background, its from my knee to my ankle on one side of my shin/calf, when it heals Ill post a pic of it. Thanks to everyone for the quick replys, and anyone else with a though or opinion please feel free to post, Im curious to hear more.:)

I would seriously LOVE to get more tats!!! I have 5 now and just don't feel "done" yet. LOLOLOL
I've been rather scared since getting RSD and figured I just couldn't get anymore period. I worry because vibration hurts me so much so thought well what about the vibration from the tat gun? Then of course there's the tat itself. One of my docs took a safety pin and asked me to tell him when I felt like I was being poked. The times I yelled OW were when he was touching my leg with the blunt side!! So how the heck would getting it done feel? Would it still be like it was before, just a little stinging and then feeling like I want to snooze while he's doing the rest of it? :) Yeah, I had to keep talking so I didn't just drop off to sleep! I don't get it when I hear others yelping about how it stung and hurt. LOL I'm attaching pics of my tats so you can see them. The wolf is on the outside of my left calf. It's a cover up of an idiotic thing I got when I was 18. LOL It was a heart with banners and had my name and my ex's name in them. That is not what made the relationship go bad, just fyi. It was his being a big jerk, an abusive one at that. It took about 2 hours to do. My upper right arm is the rose and the iron cross. I guess that's what type it is. It just looked pretty good at the time. It took about an hour. The upper left arm has my heart with wings and a Celtic Cross with rose. It took about an hour as well. |
Oh my gosh.. I just passed out... LOL beautiful tat's.. cringing just thinking how you must have felt getting these! OUCH! I am just a whimp! ha ha ha Sorry your ex was a jerk and abusive one at that! grrrrr :0(
Well, ok.. fanning self off after passing out..LOL BEAUTIFUL WOLF to cover that mistake up! Love, Desi |
I always wanted one but since the RSD and learning what can cause RSD, well I just won't take the risk of injury to yet one more area. Just to painfu already.
I wish you luck if you do this |
hm
I had one on my shoulder blade that hurt like crazy and that was before RSD.. Some people react diffrently to pain.. if you have any spread issues I would nix the tatoo, if you feel pain more easily in all areas since RSD I would also skip it.. but if you want to test it before hand then have a little done one day and schedule the rest to be completed a day or so later.
just my 2 cents.. be well, :grouphug: |
another 2 cents, I don't have one, but I love them. Some of them are so beautiful. I'm just too much of a coward as I don't do any type of pain any more. I do get the ones that you apply, and stay on for a couple of weeks. that is as brave as I get.

Wolf is special to me and I loved the colors in it as soon as I saw it. It seemed the perfect thing to replace the other. I had the wolf done 10 or 11 years ago now and the others were done 8-9 years ago. Sandel, I don't have spread issues anymore. LOL It went full body in 11 months so it can't spread to another body part, I don't have any left! :D I may decide to go for it and plan my next tat. Doing some and then coming back to do the rest sounds like a good plan actually as well since it'll give me time to recover. I, of course, want color so do the outline and any shading then go back for the color may be the easiest way to do it. Well, if I do, you will all be the first ones to know!! :D Hugs, Karen |
