BT1/OBT back online
Hi all,
Since it's my day during your night, I've been watching OBT limp back. It's a completely new re-install, you must re-register and people are having trouble getting in - you've apparently got to wait for an email to confirm. It's being tested over the next day or two, so lots not right yet. No sign of any old posts, it looks straight out of the box, JL says he'll try to retrieve as much as possible of the archives. Well, he's finally rolled up his sleeves and got down to it. (This is just between you me and the gatepost, she whispered online :D , but there are a couple of posters thanking him for getting it back so quickly.... is this just me or what???? :p ) So! Don't everybody rush to the exit at once! Funny thing is, this place looks way older than that one. I know, I know, it'll take 2 minutes and you won't even know it was gone :D Thought you'd be interested :) , all the best |
Artist: I registered on the new site and got a message that an email was sent to me. That was two hours ago and still no message. Lil

My 1st attempt to log on, and I got a message that my e-mail was banned. Ouch! Not a very nice welcome. lol.
I'm glad that JL has BT up and running as many people have not found there way here and are still left out in the cold with no support. This way they will have a place to go. I'm sure JL was very frustrated. I'm praying that he will be able to get all the back-up files and threads back on-line so that all the research that is there will be not lost. This would be a shame. I do hope that both BT1 and BT2 does not become two separate families. Or one against the other. I for one have some major memory problems and would find it difficult to post on both. But I'll just have to wait and see how things materialize. |
It is now over six hours since I registered at OBT. There is a message from JL stating that he had to manually register some of the names. A later message said all is fixed. I still cannot log on and I still did not get an email. How do I contact JL so that I can post on OBT? My registered name at OBT is Diamond Lil. This name is now listed on the members list but still no email.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Regards Lil |
I'm not really sure if I will post on BT1. Before the big crash there were no fimiliar names and I didn't feel comfortable there. I think I like this site better, with everyone here posting it feels like the old times, something I look forward to and something I need. Jewells

Lil: Have you tried using the site at all? Someone found they could get in anyway, but maybe just lucky. I'd go back there, read up on FF, see if anyone else has cracked that problem. If not, send JL a message through their contact form. And keep an eye on FF here too, people are sharing registration experiences on the "BT1 is back" (or similar) thread. Or if anyone else here has successfully joined, they could post a message for you. I haven't joined yet, too busy, I'll do it if/when I need to.
Jewells: Yes, it's a difficult one. But Jewells, I agree with everything you just said, you hit it right on the nail for me. I also really like the much more relaxed organisation, its solid background (this is DocJohn's No. 1 job...) and, most importantly, the people! Not just here in RSD, but in the whole place. Plus the fact that we get to vote on changes and developments, are listened to and receive a response that always treats us as adults. Two things may happen to this forum now, in which we all have a say. One, the name will probably change to something like "Neurotalk", but still to be decided. Second, they'll change the forum colour - despite the fact that I'm very comfortable with blue, that'll make it easier to remember where you are (I just found myself very confused a moment ago looking at OBT!) :D. I don't think anyone should feel badly on either forum if they want to switch. Your "comfort zone" is a very subjective area and what suits you, just does. Dana I think there will be a bit of "them" and "us" for a bit; but like the start of this place, things will settle down fairly soon I'm sure. OBT Forum Feedback should start to get interesting, although they won't be allowed to be as honest as we were. I wonder how it'll go. But whatever, personally I think this world *is* big enough for the both of us. all the best! |
Thanks Artist for the reply.
I just tried again about 10 minutes ago. Still no luck. It says I am using an invalid password or user name. I did contact JL with my problem to no avail as of yet. I have been reading the FFs also. I even PMd someone on here to contact JL on my behalf. I feel like giving up since it is so frustrating, but I want to see if I can contact some members of the old forum in case they rejoin. There are some very helpful people I have had the pleasure to meet there and I don't want to lose them forever. Regards, Lil |
Lil - just had an idea. ZombieSlayer's our mod. Why not PM him - he's listed on the other forum too and was there right from the get up.
good luck, atb. |
Artist: I finally got through after 12 hours. When I registered this morning, I check the members list to see if I was added. I was and all was OK. When I looked at it late tonight I saw that the d in Diamond was no longer there. I remember JL stated that he was going to add the members manually today. It seems that the d somehow got sucked into a black hole in outerspace. Something like that could only happen to me. I hope JL is able to fix my username. Diamon Lil just looks weird.
Thanks for your suggestions. It was really kind of you to offer help. Regards, Diamond LIl |
Diamon Lil!! Hahahahah! :D :D - not quite the same, is it? We should start inspecting the membership lists for funny names, what a good game :D
all the best. |
Artist: I have had that nickname for 45 years. My brother gave it to me and I called him Tut as in King Tut. By the way, Diamond Lil is the name of a certain lady of the 1890's who lived life unemcumbered by Victorian morals. It is a play was written by Mae West who said "She is me and I am her and we're both the same" if you get my drift. I don't know why he chose that name for me. I was a bookworm type. Maybe because my first name starts with an "L" - it is not Lillian by the way. To this day he calls me Lil and I call him Tut. I wonder how many of us were given nicknames when we were young and still use them. Regards, Lil
PS were you always artistic? I am still trying to draw decent stick men. |
From what I've read and been told is that email confirmation is no longer needed and that all folks that were awaiting confirmation were confirmed manually.
Also Mr. Lester said he imported all of the old banned email addresses, so folks using AOL and RR in particular will have problems still. When I know more I'll pass it around. |
ZS - Thanks for the update!
Lil - Yup, got born like this! atb :) |
ZS...so if I'm banned using my RR account, can I use my hotmail e-mail addy and get in....?
I don't know why I'm asking...I'm perfectly fine here. Maybe I'll just lurk around there! laffs. Dana |

Awhile back there was a rash of spam emails coming from RR accounts and (always) AOL accounts. Therefore a lot of places implemented a broad banning of those addresses. Since then about half of the sites have lifted the ban, some have done a partial/temp lift, and still others kept it in place. This also happens with ip addys and can be the reason some folks have problems or get the you've been banned message. |
