what medication is used for manic behavior?
I feel like i am speeding but it could be the three cups of black coffee and i continue to spend? I don't know whether to wait for my next appt or call for a closer one.
"These drugs can reduce manic symptoms more quickly than mood stabilizers. However, long-term treatment with mood stabilizers can help prevent future manic episodes. Examples of antipsychotics include olanzapine (Zyprexa), risperidone (Risperdal), and quetiapine (Seroquel).Feb 1, 2016" Iam on risperdal but he wanted to cut the dosage because of stroke risk. I wouldn't touch zyprexa with a ten foot pole. talk about zombie that is what seroquel did to me. I just called the doctor's office and I am scheduled for this thursday. I felt like such a fool. I couldn't remember the time she just told me 10:15. thank you stroke. I had trouble yesterday at P.T. I kept on losing count. my short term memory is cooked |

Make sure your therapist realizes that your having trouble remembering the count. She should be able to help you with this. Mine always did. Donna :grouphug: |
Yes ask for help at PT.
your risperdal doubling it should help. bizi |
it did help big time

Risperdal can be used as a prn (as needed) med. Maybe your pdoc will be more comfortable with you using it that way if you let him know you tried it and it worked for you. Maybe some of the anxiety you have been experiencing is more of the "manic" or "rapid" feelings and that's why it hasn't been responding well to the Klonopin. The more you tell him about what's been going on, the better. You may want to write everything down before your visit so you can make your case.
If he is really against raising the Risperdal, even as a prn, you could try a mood stabilizer. That would be a good option, too. |
what mood stabilizer.I take topamax
|
I take Topamax, too. It's used off-label as a mood stabilizer. According to my pdoc, it's considered, "a weak mood stabilizer with antidepressant qualities".
Lithium, Depakote, Geodon, Tegretol, Neurontin, Trileptal, lamictal (which I also take), and Latuda are all mood stabilizers. Some anti-psychotics and atypical antipsychotic meds are also used as mood stabilizers. I'm sure there are other meds that I'm not aware of, too. I'm not recommending you take a particular med. I'm just suggesting it may be something worth talking to your doctor about if he refuses to increase your Risperdal. |
thanks I already took a lot of them
|
Me too. I think a lot of us have.
They are using other stuff off-label now, and there is new stuff out there, too... Not just for mood stabilizers, but antidepressants, etc. |
the medicine change still is not working
|
Sorry to hear this, Bobby.
