topamax etc

he raised it to 100 twice a day. he asked what concerned me more my depression or my appetite and spending. I said the later. I almost started laughing. He also might change the risperdal since he noticed that there was movement around my mouth. I said he was the first to notice it. don't know if i go to the senior center or not. I feel like laughing and crying. Oh I hope the topamax works as it did before. I have only been on 1oo

Did your doctor do blood work for bicarbonate levels, and electrolyes before raising your Topamax?

This drug can cause a metabolic acidiosis in up to 30% of patients and the side effects of this would be confusing... to the patient and could mimic other things.

What Is Metabolic Acidosis?

I think this is something you should pay attention to and ask your doctor to monitor your bicarbonate levels. This FDA letter was sent to all physicians when this serious side effect emerged after the Topamax was approved. But many doctors ignored it or didn't understand it.

mymorgy 03-09-2017 01:08 PM

[he didn't do it.I have been on 100mg for a long time and before that a long time ago I was on 200 mg when my overeating stopped

i don't know if it worked so fast but last night I wasn't hungry. I hope it is the topamax. I lost a couple of ounces. today I will have spinach and hard boiled eggs. of course I will have coffee.

OhKay 03-10-2017 10:49 AM

I know that you've been wanting the Topamax raised for a long time, so I'm happy your pdoc did that for you Bobby :):):)

I'm happy that he noticed the changes around your mouth and adjusted your Risperdal level. Due to that... I think it's important that you don't adjust the level of Risperdal on your own at all anymore. That is a significant symptom that can be dose-dependent and needs to be monitored.

I've been on 200mg of Topamax for 8 (?) years and nobody's ever drawn a bicarb level on me.

mymorgy 03-11-2017 04:58 AM

I think it is having a calming effect on me. even my blood pressure is lower. and pulse....it feels good...relaxing. it was an effort this morning looking at pants

OhKay 03-11-2017 08:59 AM

It is a mood stabilizer, but not a strong one. So, it has the potential to help you in a couple of ways. I hope it continues to help you Bobby :)

can i take the two hundred all at once in the morning as I did before or do i have to spread it out. I would rather take it all at once since i go to bed early and wake up very early? I don't want to ask the doctor because I already did and he said spread it out

OhKay 03-11-2017 09:38 AM

I take mine all at once, but I'm not taking it to curb my appetite or spending. He may want you to split it up because you are using it for that specific purpose. Maybe if you take it all at once it won't be as effective for that intention.

mymorgy 03-13-2017 05:56 AM

right now i am taking 200 at once. it seems to be also working as an antidepressant which it shouldn't.1. topiramate's frequent effectiveness for patients who have failed to respond
to antidepressants or mood stabilizers;

mymorgy 03-14-2017 04:39 AM

I think i lost another pound

OhKay 03-14-2017 05:42 AM

My pdocs have told my that although Topamax is used off label as a mood stabilizer, it is a weak one, and it also has "an anti-depressant like quality." Whatever that means.

I'm glad that you are feeling "mellow." You have been hypo for quite a while.
When you say it's acting as an anti-depressant, do you mean that it's bringing you back down to earth? Or breaking the episode? Because Topamax, or any other mood stabilizer, can do that.

I wish you were sleeping better… :hug::hug::hug:

mymorgy 03-14-2017 06:34 AM

i have been waking up at two or three. and going to sleep early.I am still buying but not as much. I am not depressed...it is weird. a lot of times I do feelmellow. Last time I was on this high a dose I didn;t. II don;t feel manic.
It is weird

mymorgy 03-14-2017 12:15 PM

I am not hungry but i feel eating some chinese food. I don;t know what to do. the topamax is really working. I guess this overeating is going to be a hard habit to break.

Dmom3005 03-14-2017 03:04 PM

Bobby
Remember you must eat somethings to lose weight.

So don't try to go off completely. Just work to cut down or out
some things. Like me I have to stop or slow down on Chocolate and
treats.

I did have chinese food even though i wasn;t hongry. My sleep schedule has really been off. I am always tired. by five oclock I want to go to sleep and I wake up at two or three. today I fell back to sleep a little. I haven;t been taking doxepin. I have been slowing my cats even more if that is possible. today I just feel like staying in bed

My sleep schedule has really been out of whack lately. I can barely sleep more than 1-2 hours at a time. I can hardly fall asleep on my left side without my arms going numb.

mymorgy 03-15-2017 08:35 AM

do you know why?

mymorgy 03-15-2017 12:49 PM

i just bought another pair of pants and shoes

OhKay 03-18-2017 10:19 AM

Even if the Topamax is helping, you might see some of those behaviors (overeating, shopping) break through. It is not a cure, just a treatment.

It sounds like you have been doing a lot better tho :)

I'm sorry that you are having sleep issues. That can throw everything out of whack

mymorgy 03-19-2017 10:40 AM

it really seems to be working as an antidepressant. I read that it happens in a few cases so I am lucky. I have been thinking about death a lot.
the black and blues and itchiness makes me worried about plavix. I read some description for side effect that was scary. My sister keeps on coming up. I was up last night again for except two hours.y sleeping is terrible.. I AM NOT DEPRESSED.
i gathered my tax stuff and will bring to the accountant tomorrow. I can't wait to get rid of it. I shouldn't owe anything.
I read a book last night=a fun book.I am starting another one. I hope Marcia likes the two pairs of pants I am surprising her with.
I don't feel like leaving the apartment

OhKay 03-20-2017 06:55 AM

I hope you can get an earlier appointment with your doctor so you don't have to worry about the Plavix longer than you have to.

I'm sorry that the thoughts about death and Myra continue to haunt you. I think it's just because you have those unresolved issues. Most people would suggest therapy. I'm not a fan myself. So, I'll I can do is offer :hug::hug:

I'm glad you're going to get your taxes taken care of. One less worry. I hope you get a refund!

mymorgy 03-20-2017 08:54 AM

i brought my taxes in yesterday. I had their email and i didn't know i was supposed have my driver's license that expires this year so I scanned it and emailed it to them. they should get to the taxes in two weeks. they had so many taxes to do. I went to therapy a few times but it didn't help. I went in college and it cost my father back then fifty dollars a week. He didn't claim insurance for it to be on my record. ha. at the end of the year I asked the pdoc how he was supposed to have helped me. He said he kept me in college. I said I could have done that without him! what a waste. bipolar II didnt exist then. in the beginning he put me on thorazine and sleeping pills. It became so hard to translate greek then. lol. latin a little harder. I am really haunted by myra. she was very selfish. we were opposites. such conflict. why can't it stop. I want to ask her youngest son if he remembers when he was a little boy and he had a pet ant and he said everybody should a friend or when he went in the street and said he wanted to die and my parents ignored him. the middle son asked her why she was always taking trips and she said she was young when she had him and she didn't know any better. ugh
I wrote in the other thread I did get an appointment for ednesday at 2:15 but I might also call bristol myers(sp)
I lost anther pound and I think it is real

OhKay 03-21-2017 07:49 AM

I definitely wouldn't ask your nephew about those things. I'm sure he has good and bad memories of his mother, but has his own way of dealing with those feelings. People work hard to move on from things like that and you would only be causing him pain.

I have had years of therapy. I saw a great therapist for about 7 years. I think that it mostly helped to have someone to talk to. I have a great deal of insight of my own, and I think that at times she helped me use it. The therapist I've seen recently is a very, very nice person, but is not helpful at all, she actually makes things worse, and I see absolutely no point in going, so I don't.

Therapy isn't for everyone. You have to be willing, and the right therapist makes a big difference.

Congratulations on losing the pound Bobby! :)

mymorgy 03-21-2017 08:07 AM

I am glad for you that at least you had one good therapist!

Everyone is different, but I take Topamax for migraines and I know for me personally this high of a dosage would be very very difficult cognitively.
Be sure to drink water...don't let yourself get dehydrated and consider any appropriate testing since this as far as I know would be considered a high dosage.

On the other hand, I hope you are feeling well.

mymorgy 03-31-2017 07:16 AM

so far it hasn't affected me cognitively. Years ago I could only take 150. I didn't tell him that.

Dmom3005 03-31-2017 09:25 AM

:grouphug:Bobby

Sounds like it was something that you really needed like you thought.
