What kind of shoes do you wear?
I was wondering what kind of shoes you have found in the summer to help you walk without messing yourself up worse.
I bought a pair of new balance tennis shoes per my Drs. orders. The thing is they are tennis shoes. In the summer time my feet burn up in tennis shoes. I wanted a pair of sandals but the JCPenny didn't have any when I bought these last week. What kind of shoes do you find help you in the summer months. I have Dr. Schols and they do nothing for my feet. I hope you will help me with this. I realize someone tried to make me look like a like I wasn't being honest here but that's ok. People soon find out who's on the up and up and that's all I care about. Thanks again for your help. Ada |
I buy ECCO sandals. They are very light and comfortable. Heavier shoes make my legs ache. They are expensive but very worth it. You can buy them at Nordstrom or The Walking Store but they are cheaper online.

I wear Birks almost exclusively now. The molded sole kind of "wraps" around my foot and keeps me from breaking my ankles. I can't wear absolutely flat anything anymore.
I wear Stegman clogs for slippers, and Merrell Primo Chills in snow. My PT just made me get a pair of NB sneakers too and I did, but don't foresee wearing them until well into fall (when I won't wear them anyway because it's time for real shoes). I'm being forced into an AFO, so he swears I had to have the NB tennies. At least I was able to find some understated, plain leather ones. |
Hi,
Thanks for the info.
My new balance are pretty plain and I made sure they were lightweight. I had some Nike's that were like wearing weights. I will get on here and do some research. I was just thinking awhile ago that I would have my daughter Susan order me a pair off of the internet. We live in such a small area, it's hard to find certain brands. I had to go to the next town to get the NB's. It's about 30 miles away. Thanks again. Ada |
I go with dansko shoes--
closed clogs with a back in fall & winter and sandals during spring & summer. I definitely notice that I'm more stable on my feet and they're comfy enough to ge me through the day w/out whining! I've also taken to getting them on ebay at a much better price than retail!! Bethany |
Crocs. I wear Crocs all year around unless the snow is deep.

I am a crocks girl too.....or anything that have a open back(slip ons)
I have a problem with my ankles hurting if to tight or ride in the wrong place on my ankle. I often kick my shoes off so the ones that slip off and on work great for me. I too have a problem with feet getting to hot and that makes my whole body seem hotter. I know not everyone walks as well as I still do but the bottoms of my feet hurt so bad I have to have on some kind of shoe. Even just foam flip flops as long as there is some couchion. For instance my hard wood floors....oohhh man....cant do it w/o some kind of shoe on. Good luck girl.....I know its a pain to deal with.... |
Thanks for the help,
I had been taking walks for years before this.
I lived in the country but I walked on blacktop for 8 years. Then when my betterhalf passed in Nov. I moved into town in April. I started walking on sidewalks and with 3 months I went from no problems to not being able to walk at all if I don't wear the right shoes. I can't figure what would be the difference betwee concrete and blacktop. I do go barefooted in my home but it's all carpet except the bathrooms and kitchen. Some of those brands I haven't heard of but I will check them out. That's a great ideal about ebay. I will get on there and look. I do have some name brand shoes. I have a friend that owns a consignment shop and she gives me a lot of my clothes and accessories. I have always liked to dress up when I go to the Dr. or anywhere BUT as soon as I walk in this house for a short trip my shoes come off. For long trips I knew I needed some better shoes. My sister is coming up from Ky. next week and I know we will go do some sightseeing. I'm hoping to rent rooms if we go very far so we aren't doing long trips in one day. Co. has so much to see but most of it is all far away. I am close to the Royal Gorge, Buckskin Joe's, Cripple Creek but I want to take her to some places in other parts of Co. I'm just hoping I can do it. Thanks again for all of the help. Ada |

I've still not been hit with "too hot" issues... if anything, I'm FREEZING all the time. I'm sure I appear absolutely nuts wearing a swearshirt and socks outside in July! Bethany |

I also don't like stufff touching the bottom of my heel. The horse shoe area arouund the edges. That gets numb fairly quickly wearing shoes. I also have to keep my feet propped up. Both the bottom of my feet and my palms & inside of fingers too hate to be touched. So painful. :( They burn and feel cold at the same time. Boy is this disease weird or what. I've always just bought the cheapest pair of shoes. I wonder if a decent pair would help. I did have Birks and they were great but I started walking out of them. I had a pair of Etonics, suede tie shoes, that I wore to my pt job back in OH. They were nice The only bad was they were hot in summer. Sometimes I wish they still weren't back in OH, buried in my sisters garage. Oh well. |

Welcome Bethany!
I love NB sneakers, especially since they make some that fit me! I live in the Bigfoot household! We have a NB factory outlet nearby and I live for their tent sale every August, I get two or three pairs for everyone in the house. I am a Birkenstocks girl too. I don't care about fashion anymore, it's all about comfort. If it's cold I will wear Birks and wool socks. Tevas are good for me too, you can wear socks with them, they don't slip on wet rocks, they dry fast and stay secure when wet. I have a pair that are broken in and close to 8 years old now. I haven't tried Crocs, still trying to get past the color, and I haven't found any in my size to try on yet, but I know they come with ankle straps that can be switched to the front so they are more decorative along the upper of the shoe rather than an actual ankle strap. |
I wear Cole Haan flats to work. I wear Tevas (sandals, flat), or adidas shower shoes, or sneakers on the days off. Never wear heals anymore.
|
The ONLY time I wear shoes is when I go out where someone will see me. I am a barefoot contessa and always have been. I wear a comfy pair of hush puppies when out among 'em, otherwise...notta!!:D
My feet are like Indian Feet now, so not tender on the bottom. If God meant for us to wear shoes, we would have been born with them on. |

My dx was just this past March so lots of this is new-- no balance, running into EVERYTHING (bruises from the bumps are only rivaled by rebif bruises), occasionally peeing when I laugh:yikes: -- all that AND lots of lost flip-flops!! BTW-- TRY an inexpensive (or at least LESS expensive) pair from dansko. I mostly wear the closed back clogs. They are a particular favorite of my friend who are nurses. They can get crazy pricey-- try a store with a great return policy (like NORDSTROM) or go for eBay-- I round up by a half size. Good Luck! Bethany |

pair with rhinestone buckles (every girl needs some evening birks....) I love my Tevas too, but I'm becoming quite partial to the fake Keen sandles I bought at Payless last year. You can't tell the difference! Soooo comfy.. TG I can wear what I want to work. |
I am a croc's gal!! I have terribly sensitive feet...Type 2 diabetes...the box of the croc is square and fits well. If my feet, ankes or knee hurt I put on my croc's and it is much better! The job that I just quit had be walking about 17 kms in 4 hours each day and I always wore my crocs!:)

When it comes to shoes I have the worst luck. I also need to have them tied down, I can no longer wear anything with an open back...they always feel like they will fall off. I miss my open back sandals...I lived in them through the months with no snow. I was a big Birk girl but I can't wear them any more...even the ones with the back strap I find the strap gets to loose.
However, concerning New Balance. I worked in an Athletic Shoe store for many years...and we worked with people with foot problems. New Balance is the real thing. They are a fantastic shoe company. Keep in mind like with any shoe company they have their low end and high end models. You need to spend a few extra bucks to get the good ones but it is worth it. New balance uses a very absorbent cushioning system called abzorb. To your touch it might not feel like the softest thing but is very absorbent . Plus if you need extra support they use the roll bar system that helps with that plus they make them in all sizes with narow and wide widths. I am a huge New Balance fan. Also, mad by New Balance is a company called Denham. These shoes are more in the casual area but they are good if you need something more dressy (a solid black leather shoe). Nothing very feminine but it is better than wearing running shoes with your dress clothes. I'm going to check out some of these brands mentioned here because I am in need of new sandals...maybe I'll have some luck. |
