My OCD problem

My OCD seems to have gotten worse recently. I'm checking things over, and over, and I'm doing things over, and over.

I don't know what's going on. BF:hug::hug::hug:

OhKay 07-18-2017 06:58 AM

I'm sorry, BF. I know how terrible OCD can be :hug::hug:

My OCD usually acts up when my GAD does, or when something significant, usually stressful, is going on in my life. I seldom experience the depressive side of BP, but OCD rears its ugly head then, too.

What do you usually do to treat your OCD when it flares up?

I hope you find some relief soon :hug::hug:

bizi 07-18-2017 07:21 AM

I am sorry friend.
My tdoc yesterday said that I was experiencing classic OCD type behaviors with my incessant picking. She asked me if I was on welbutrin...I am not.
Don't think that I can take that. Although I don't think it is an SSRI....not sure if it would not make me manic.
Maybe it would help me not drink????
That would be good. I think it helps with cigarette smoking, so maybe????
I see my pdoc next very soon.
Maybe I can ask about that.

I hope that you find some comfort today. Do something that you enjoy, try to distract your self from your reoccurring thoughts if the is possible.

You are not on a therapeutic dose of a mood stabilizer, even if you were, being BPI I would NOT take Wellbutrin, or any other antidepressant.

bizi 07-18-2017 07:54 AM

Kay, I take 400mg of lamictal which is a mood stabilizer.

Wellbutrin is supposed to help with cigarette smoking yes.
My son was on it, and it really didn't help with that for him.

Hi Kay. I'm on the maximum dose of Luvox, so my nurse practitioner won't be able to increase the dosage.

This is a first. My ocd has been accumulative. I seem to be checking, and checking, and checking until the top of my head becomes tightened. I don't know what to do.

I'm going to see my nurse practitioner around the end of the month. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Thank you Bizi. BF:hug::hug::hug:

OhKay 07-19-2017 07:57 AM

Wellbutrin didn't help me with smoking either.

I still would not suggest taking any antidepressant, Bizi.

Sometimes the severity and nature of OCD can just change, and needs a different approach, or an extra kick in the butt. It's different for everyone... According to my pdoc, there are some studies that show that Seroquel is effective in managing OCD sx. I'm glad that you're going to see your NP soon, BF :hug::hug:

Brokenfriend 07-19-2017 12:20 PM

Thank you Kay. The Seroquel helps me to not talk to often about different things that are maybe not necessary. I noticed this immediately after I first started taking it. BF:hug::hug::hug:

OhKay 07-20-2017 04:40 AM

I lost a lot of my "fire" when I started taking Seroquel. I guess that's a good thing sometimes, but it's not something I like. I just accept it tho as a trade off for the benefits I get from taking it. It's a personality change, and I can understand why some people decide not to take meds.

Brokenfriend 07-20-2017 11:14 AM

Seroquel does suppress my personality somewhat, but not totally. I know what you mean about some people not wanting to be medicated. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Brokenfriend 07-26-2017 11:18 AM

I'm not sure if my medications are working as well as they use to. I don't like it when doctors change medications around though. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I feel the same.

I would almost rather keep what I already have than have to
deal with something new -- but lately I am interested in changes

I hope that they keep creating better medications for us Mari. I hope that you find better medications now, and in the future. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Kay I lost a lot of my "fire" also. Instead of commenting about various things when people have said something, I've noticed that I keep my opinion to myself, and/or not giving my ideas to the people.

I have been responding to the people in the support group though. I'm glad that I don't just sit there. I have so many thoughts when things are said that I cannot keep quiet, and I give understanding of what I know. I'm careful to not talk to much. BF:hug::hug::hug:

Thank you Bizi. I've been through it for a long, long time. I've learned many coping skills, and many things over decades.

Thank you. You have a lot to share also. We all do here. BF:hug::hug::hug:

I'm glad that your OCD has gotten better over the last couple of days :)

Keeping things in, and then having difficulty stifling ourselves in in other situations, is an add combination, isn't it? I think that sometimes there are subjects that just hit home to us, and we sympathize with other people and feel a need to share our experiences and wisdom with them... and maybe vent a little

I hate med changes, especially because the pdocs always pile meds on to me, and never take anything away. I'm glad that right now, you are at a point where you're not in danger of having to make a med change
