most pcs issues are upper neck injuries
i will say 90% concussion problems are caused by ligament damage in your c0 to c2 areas and upper neck muscle weakness..it does not take much force to cause those ligaments to tear or stretch. barre liou syndrome is common along long term pcs sufferers
i know this as i did stem cell injections in my neck and my concussion issues are gone. |
Please tell us about the stem cell procedure and how long it took, etc. Does insurance cover it ?

very important to eat correctly and exercise .long brisk walks recommended its not cheap but combine stem cells with proper diet/supplements with hbot it will cure most pcs issues |

What country was it preformed in? |
From what I read, stem cell therapy does not help neuro issues but is very beneficial with joint injuries, ligaments, tendons. The jury is still out on HBOT. Even Dr Harch's study is inconclusive. It appears to help some and not others.
My interest is in the strengthening of the C-1 to occiput and C-1 to C-2 ligaments. They can take months to strengthen by normal healing. Did the stem cell therapy target those ligaments? |

when your c0 to c2 ligaments are damaged it causes your c1 to subluxate forward.causing pinching on your vertebral artery and on your autonomic nervous system that alone causes headache.nausea sensivity etc etc.basically most pcs symptoms.it can also cause poor csf flow |
Could you please explain what type of evidence (in addition to your own experience) makes you think that 90% of PCs symptoms are due to the neck?
|
Studies show that 80-85% of concussions include an upper neck injury component. roffa's comment that 90% of symptoms are caused by the neck injuries is not what the study reported.
From what I understand, it is not only a pinching issue. Misalignment and injury can cause inflammation that restricts blood flow and nerve function. I can be symptom free then sleep with poor posture and cause symptoms. |
Mark,
I agree, and saying "85% of concussions have a neck component" is not the same as "85% of symptoms come from the neck". This is why I asked. By the way, should we perhaps think of a thread or folder that summarizes and discusses recent medical research on PCS? I have read a few studies that would perhaps be interesting for others, and I would be glad to learn more as well. |
Is this is a legit syndrome that someone at Mayo Clinic would be able to diagnose or is this a chiropractic thing?
Unfortunately, I think almost all studies for TBI therapies like HBOT are going to be somewhat inconclusive due to the uniqueness of each brain injury. I listened to podcast on dr. Harch and he mentioned that the military studies on hbot were flawed. I almost got in to dr. Harch study but was denied due to medical marijuana. I asked the assistant if she could tell me if results were positive and she said research was positive. I'm going to Mayo Clinic next week. I definitely have neck issues and when I pinch my neck muscles, the pain refers to my head where I experience tension headaches. I see a acupuncturist/trigger point massage guy and he does needles with electric current to try to loosen them. I also did trigger point injections but those didn't work. If Mayo can't help, I'm going to try some experimental routes. ** From my understanding of stem cell treatment outside of clinical trials, it's a very shady business and often you aren't even getting active stem cells. I'm glad you found relief though. That's wonderful. |
Vania,
Feel free to start a thread. I've started them just to tell an amusing TBI anecdote. Try to avoid starting a new thread for every study. TiT, Upper neck injuries are what I call subtle neck injuries because they are very difficult to diagnose with normal means. My position is to treat the neck as if it is injured by being disciplined with good sleep posture. A chiro or good upper cervical PT can help but personal behaviors are most important. Just as many PCS issues, we need to self-treat and not expect a doctor to have a magic bullet. |

Months ago I couldn't bend my neck without worsening my headache, I felt like the blood flow to my head is badly restricted. My injury likely strained my C1 C2 joints as you suggested, and now I'm thinking about HBOT therapy, maybe it could improve my condition. My pain is localized mostly behind my eyes, along with tension headache so I was wondering whether it could be occipital neuralgia, or is that the same as cervical injury? No back head pain though. |
HBOT will not help a neck issue.
What do you do to take care of your neck? Head aches can take months to resolve. Some are neck related. Others are related to vascular control of blood flow in the head. I take aspirin or aspirin/acetaminophen to treat my head aches. |
Interesting thread. I still remember that morning exactly a week after my concussion waking up with tinnitus and nausea ...and the nape of my neck sore. More recently I was trying to figure out what had caused a recent relapse and it coincided with slouching on the sofa with my neck bent, when I got up I felt a sudden fatigue and nausea come over me. Over the next few days my neck felt uncomfortable and warm.
