my mind

this is scary-i thought i locked myself out. I thought i always used to top lock.
it wouldn't open it. I tried and tried and tried. I got a porter to come up and told him the lock. He also tried. then somebody else brought up the set of keys from downstairs. He tried the bottom key and it worked. since the stroke I am losing it gradually

Mari 10-01-2017 04:57 AM

Sorry.

The porter could not initially do it either. I am glad he was helpful.

Can you tape over the top lock so you don't try it again?

Is the bottom lock near the handle? Can you put a piece of
string or tape near the handle to help remind yourself?

I have lived here for long and this never happened. what could it mean?

Now I can't find my other set of keys

OhKay 10-01-2017 06:58 AM

The incident may have begun with a little slip of the mind, but I think anxiety took over from there :hug::hug:

Mari had a good idea, but make sure the tape is on the inside of your apartment as a reminder, not on the outside, which could alert potential robbers.

I'm sorry you had to go through that experience. It must have been very stressful

mymorgy 10-01-2017 07:56 AM

I don't think that is going to help. I wish i knew why it happened. did the stroke cause the brain damage for it to happen. I still can't find the other keys. the others have my mailbox key and I can't find another

mymorgy 10-01-2017 08:32 AM

i found the other set of keys finally they were hanging by the door where they usually are.

OhKay 10-01-2017 08:48 AM

I'm glad that you found your keys :)

I have these little colored rubber things that stretch to fit around the top of my keys so I can tell which key is for what. Maybe putting one on the key for the top lock would be a helpful reminder.

Mari 10-02-2017 03:06 AM

Glad the keys were where they are supposed to be

I only had one key on the key chain and I didn't think to try the other lock. It still seems strange

It does seem strange.

I hope that you are going to be alright.

Everyone is entitled to a brain fart every now and then, especially if they have existing cognitive problems. As long as these types of things don't keep happening more often or get worse, I would try to let this episode go...

I think it's the type of slip you have and the frequency you have them that is significant, and would trigger an alarm that you may be in decline.

I don't want you to worry too much unless it's necessary :hug::hug:

I use the top lock at night and the bottom lock when I leave the house. It is like I lost part of my memory because I am still not used to using the bottom lock when I leave. I looked it up on the internet but couldn't find anything.

mymorgy 10-03-2017 08:53 AM

I wonder if I had a mini stroke

If you think that happened, as far as I know, they can tell with an MRI.

that is interesting. I hate going through procedures and if it happened they could only doing in the first few hours. Nothing would gained except my curiosity and possible fear. It still doesn't feel familiar using the bottom lock which I always did.

Bobby
So sorry things look different. I have to say I locked my self our of my house again today, with my car keys inside. Luckily I can go next door when I
do this.

it is really good to have backup

Mari 10-05-2017 04:22 AM

The MRI would show infarcts -- they can show up on an MRI -- do not have to be immediate -- mine were a few days.

My old pdoc said that lots people have infarcs without noticing but they show up on the MRIs.

Mari is right...

You can also make an appointment with your neurologist, who may be able to pick something up on an exam, by asking you questions, or maybe by just talking to you.

If you feel like something is different, Bobby, I think it's a good idea to make an appointment :hug::hug:
