My September thread
I wanted to post that 21 years ago I had an accident about 5:30 to 6:00pm
off my back porch. Derrick and his little friend, my neighbor girl, and her mother were the ones who came to my rescue. She was trying to figure out what to do. She could tell I needed to go to the ER. But was trying to figure out whether to send me in a ambulance, or wait and see if my husband came home in a few minutes. He was due anytime. Which he pulled, in just then. My mother-in-law lived next door at that point. And offered to keep Derrick, and the neighbor knew we were worried with his seizures for her to have him. And Devin was in the house. But she said, if she had problems that they could come get her and she would help. I spent hours in ER, had a dislocated elbow. And then was sent home it was put back in place. With a warning, it might not stay so to be careful and keep it elevated. And almost 10 days later, my son Devin took me to the doctor, and it was out of place. He also had Derrick because he had a appointment before mine. So my appointment, the doctor said, you are headed across to get it put back in place, then we will see you in a week or two for surgery as soon as they can get you a appointment. I said, wait. I need to work on this. My son needs to take my other son, back to school, and go to school. He asked what I meant, I told him what was going on. He said, I'll take care of it. Give me your husbands phone number which I did. He called him, told him to meet him at a certain time at the hospital. And what he was doing, told him he wanted him to tell his son to take the two kids back to school. And explain to the little ones teacher what was going on and a note would come the next day for both, if one didn't come today. But he had also sent one from his office for them. So they knew why I wasn't there. He was one of the nicest doctors I ever had with these kind of issues. Donna |
Derrick went to a program and gave his presentation for teeth this
morning. It went really well. So he got to give out about 20 sets. Donna :grouphug: He also picked up a shift at work tonight. |
a dislocated elbow sounds painful!
what kind of surgery did you have? bizi |
thanks so very much for support. what fantastic news about your a1c. what a feat. i guess there is hope. you must be so proud.

Elbow surgery, not sure it had a name. I had my radial arm replaced with
a metal one. I was in a contraption for about 6 to 8 weeks, but started moving it right away. Donna :grouphug: |
O my gosh donna I had no idea about your arm. Does it bother you?

Not much anymore. I worked really hard in PT when I went and it
came back almost 100%. The ortho and PT neither one could believe the amount of use I have with it. I was expected to not get more than about 50 % back. But I just keep working, and no one had told me I wasn't supposed to get it back. Till after I'd gotten more than 80% back. Then the ortho said, wow you aren't supposed to get this much back. I'm impressed. I said, well I have great therapist and just worked to do it. Its sometimes hurting when its cold out. But that is the main time. Donna :grouphug: |
I am glad that you had a wonderful PT.
sorry about the pain when it is cold outside. (((((((HUGS)))))) love, bizi |
Derrick baked on Thursday and Friday to take things to the Special Olympic
bake sale on Saturday. Then we worked it till 12 and went home to rest till taking him to work. Because they had so many treats at the day. We took some home and Derrick took the ones we didn't buy to work. And they were a hit there. So much so I guess they called the main manager trying to get a couple of the ones on the menu. Not Derrick the other staff. It was funny. He is so loved there it is so nice. Donna :grouphug: |
what a nice up date!

I forgot to tell you ladies that on Friday night, one of the other hostesses
was almost hit by a customer or two. Because she wasn't seating the customers as fast as they wanted. I guess when Derrick was doing some checking around on her and some other things, he is doing some training to be a trainer in the host and a couple other area's and was doing some at the time. He noticed she was overly upset. And asked her what was wrong, and at first she didn't wanted to tell him. He finally got her to tell him. And he told her she needed to tell the main manager. So she did, I believe since they had only one hostess at the time. He filled in for her. But he said, all the sudden, the Main manager was looking for the front of the house manager, wanting to know if she knew anything about it. And was looking for the customers, that had been seated, and they had the cops there too. But she went to the table they had been seated at. And told them they were to leave right then. One of the guys told them they had just gotten their drinks, and she said, this once I"m allowing you to take your drinks with you. One said, I have a alcoholic drink and don't want to leave it. She told him, YOu are allowed just this once to take it. And they left, the cops were outside to take over with them. I guess one of the other guest wanted to know why they couldnt take their drinks (alcoholic) too. She told them usually it wasn't allowed, but they had done something to a employee and had to leave. And the customer told her that they didn;t want a drink to go that bad. And they would even tip the waitress assigned that table. But anyway the next night, they had not only camera's, in the front, but they had to be fingerprinted, and a few other things. To show they were employees. I'm not sure what all happened with the customers. But I'm sure it was more than Derrick was told, because originally it was just to be camera's so the management could see if it happened anywhere in the store. Donna :grouphug: |
that sounds so awful.

Yes, I think it was for the girl it happened to. But it wasn't all that happened
that night. There was a fight with one of the girls, deciding she is entitled to tell another girl when she can ask for time off. And she then walked out on the job and left for the night. At this point no one is sure if she is off completely or if she is just on vacation for a couple weeks to decide what she really wants to do. Derrick is one of the few that can do the to go position, so he is stepping up to do the position. Donna :grouphug: |
What a nightmare !
Good for derrick to get the gal to talk. and that he is taking up on more responsibility, and getting good experience. You have trained him well. bizi |
Yes, he is a good worker and does a great job. He really notices when
someone is off which makes a lot of difference too. Donna :grouphug: |
Just got home on sunday at 10;45 pm Jeff picked me up.
my Indy to dallas got diverted to oklahoma because of a storm that popped up with hail and lightening. So they stopped in OK to refuel. the storm passed and we flew back to dallas. my2 hour layover was down to half an hour. So I dragged my carry ons and walked very quickly thru the airport for my next flight home, made the gate with 5 minutes until boarding.whew! The reunion was nice 60 grads arrived with spouses and some single people. 120 turned out.The silent auction was great. we raised almost $2,000 to be split between ronald mcdonald house and another cancer site, can't remember what that one was. Monday I woke up with a scratchy throat and by the end of the day it was sore. So I thought covid or strep. So I went into a med check place and got tested for both. negative good. He did diagnose pharengitis. he gave me prednisone 20mg x 4 days just picked it up today hoping that I can sleep tonight! The steroids helped my knee and my back as well. @*Beth* my brown shoe boots fell apart at the reunion. So a friend leanna had a pair of sandals that she let me borrow for the evening. The 3 inch heel(shoe boot) was like disintegrated it was the oddest dress catastrophe, I have some black boots that I will wear for jeffs birthday dinner .We are going to our favorite restaurant : Marcellos. He turned 60 today. he is at a rehearsal for the latin band for the latin fest october 1st. After a quick dinner at pizza artista where your pizza is ready in 5 minutes.after placing an order kind like a subway. you walk thru the line and pick out the items you want. very good pizza usually. WE split a small one with the traditional toppings. After diner we came home and jeff asked if I wanted a truffle , then he said, did you get me a cake? hangs her head, no I did not. I never even thought of that. you don't turn 60 every day. he is buying himself a new gig guitar. My twin and I turn 60 on january 1st. We have been talking about taking a river cruise by viking. They are pricey but should be a lot of fun. When we turned 50 the 3 girls(older sister) went on a carnival cruise for 4 nights out of new orleans. All 3 of us in one room it was quite crowded. But we had a good time. any ways, I will quit, thanks for reading along! bizi |
tell Jeff happy happy birthday. glad the plane finally worked out. the reunion sounded great.
love, bobby |
Happy Birthday to Jeff, if it was me I'd just go get him a late cake.
I realize its not grouphug::hug: the same thing but I love cake so it would be to me. I'm glad you had a good time. Donna |
I forgot to tell you ladies that Derrick's 1 year anniversary was on Wednesday.
On Tuesday when he worked he received from one of the Managers, the kitchen manager a nice O'Charleys jacket. He really is loving it. And I guess some of the other employees are jealous he got one and they didn't the manager told him, then them that its given to employess that work hard. And do more than asked, and show they put out extra. Then he and his behavior therapist, who he sees more as a good friend went to o"charleys on Wednesday for lunch it was their usual day to eat out. And they got their usual 1/2 off meals. Then he got me a nice meal free as his meal for his anniversary to bring home to me. And she got a meal to go for $2.00. It was a nice surprise. I don't honestly know any other place that treats employees so well. He has a new job coach starting in a week or so. As soon as we can get her in to meet the staff and get things started. But he is off most of this next week anyway. He is also learning a new position this next Monday, the start to his most wanted Prep Cook. Donna :grouphug: |
You have to be so proud.

O charles sounds like a good company to work for!
bizi |
They are to me. It always depends on the manager also. Which theirs
are all good. And the rest of the team seems to really like him which always helps. I'm just glad that because he really wanted this job its the way he was thinking it would be. I'm hoping it continues, since we all know anything can change. I do know that after we told the old Manager of his Job coach company I guess she went in there and told the owner, who was there to help with the main manager out on vacation. That she heard that her company had some problems. So he sat down and talked to her. About what she could do to get back on the good side. It was interesting, he had gotten Derrick's phone number from one of the manager's and texted him the situation and what he told her. He is also catering, and tonight they have about 4 to 5 catering parties. He is the only employee that isn't management at this time. That has the papers to officially cater. There are some doing the training. But the manager, and owner both think its great he not only has the savserv but the other hotel type testing under his belt already. Donna :grouphug: Donna |
it really is so incredibly wonderful.
love. bobby |
Donna, you must be so proud of derrick!
bizi |
Yes, I'm proud of Derrick, like today. He had picked up a shift because
he has this next weekend off. And he got there and the girl on to go. Was sick so they let her go home at 4pm. And he filled in by finishing his shift with the to go position and staying till almost 7:30pm. We were going to have supper there. But brought it home. Which it was good. I guess the girl in the bar was a little upset I sat down in there. And kept going back wanting to know when he got off. Finally the manager's both top ones went over to him and asked him what the problem, was he told them she was not happy I was sitting in her area. The next time she came back, they told her I was staff family and allowed to sit there. And if she had a complaint that their was a ideas box so she could fill it with a idea what we could do. Also asked her if since some of their employees can't drive. If she wanted to pay their bills for medical if they got hurt trying to get home. When she didn't like the family sitting in her area. That it was a option. She shut up I guess. She came back about 7pm, and told me. Because she knew he was supposed to be off. That he was swamped it would be a while. Donna :grouphug: |
That was nice of her to tell you he would be later in getting off work.

what a f@#king sh@t. wish there weren't people in the world like that. it gets me so furious.
