Labor Day weekend........
Hey everyone!
What are y'all doing over this holiday weekend? Anything special? Picnics? Spending time with family or friends?? or just vegging??? Mike and I have an annual party over Labor day weekend and Easter weekend. So tomorrow night we've invited 30 friends over and we're grilling burgers and hotdogs.....and everyone that comes will bring a dish of something. It's always fun to catch up with friends you don't get to see very often. I hope everyone here has a great 3 day weekend! :) |

Wow Sue! Lots going on at your house this weekend!! How wonderful......a new blonde grandbaby!! How cool is that!!
I hope your owwie tooth feels better. Do ya have some pain meds for it?? Keep your toes up so Daniel doesn't run over them! :) You'll have to post his picture so we can see him! Enjoy your weekend! |
HI Roxie and Hi Sue:
Everything is quiet here in Brooklyn. The feast ends tomorrow night. I'm swimming in handbags and necklaces. Every morning, Alan never knows what I'm going to wear or which handbag I'm carrying. He thinks I'm nuts. But not me. Hey, we have to get all gussied up sometimes, now don't we??? So happy long weekend to everybody. mel |
HI Mel!
I love jewlery and Mike buys me jewlery each year for my birthday, our anniversary and Christmas! I love it! I don't need expensive stuff.....just stuff I like. I love purses too and bought a really cool one at Old Town Spring, TX. when we were visiting there a cpl months ago. I wish we had a festival to go to this weekend but I haven't heard of any locally :( |
40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love in San Francisco!
Well, I was supposed to go, but the battery on my wheelchair didn't cooperate! :( It choose this weekend to give out. My boyfriend and all the guys went. One daughter and her family are going to a car show downtown, :Wheel: the other daughter and her family are going to the beach boardwalk. :icecream::icecream: I think I'll enjoy a nice long nap in front of the fan and watch a movie. A quiet Sunday afternoon snoozing without interruptions. Sounds like a nice day to me.
Yesterday we cleaned house, spent the day out on the patio with friends visiting from Australia and New Zealand (they went to the Summer of Love with Jim today). Tomorrow, going to visit a friend for a BBQ. :pepsi: Hope each and every one of you has a great weekend and at least has a few hours of pain free (or at least distracted from pain) enjoyment. All of you are such a great resource for me. Terri |
Forty Years!
Man am I GETTING OLD!:(

Ain't we all?

Happy Labor Day
From the two of us here in hot Texas. We're just vegging out. Actually one of us is vegging out. I got behind in the laundry because of the physical therapy. I've done about 9 loads in the last two days which is a lot of walking around my house. My left ankle has given out on me again. The doctor x-rayed it on Thursday so naturally it will be Tues or Weds before we really know anything. But...they put me back in the stupid moonboot cast. Mel, it's similar to the one Alan is wearing (was wearing). And it's going to grind my hip out of joint because of the difference in the heel heights. I'm not sure what it will mean to the physical therapist. We'll see on Weds.
Anyway..hope you all are having a good long weekend. I do plan to rest tonight. Billye |
I just had a lovely 3 hour visit with my son who leaves for Iraq in 5 days. He drove 4 hours to see us for 3 hours and 4 hours back. What a sweetie! When he left my feet started hurting more......stress..... Tomorrow it's housework for me!

We Are Not
Getting old!!!!!!!!!! We are more well, 'seasoned'.
What is amazing about this particular weekend is that it has been so delightfully QUIET! No wild parties anywhere, no lawnmowers or 'home projects' going on. Even the airplanes that usually go overhead to two airports in the area are not 'flying low' if at all. To not have to listen to racket for a day or so is just wonderful. I could get used to this and I bet it's noisier out in the 'country'! |
You have to watch this!!!!
|
Dakota;
Just read your post about your son visiting you. How blessed you are to have such a lovely son. I wish him well when he is deployed. I pray for all our service guys out there. You take care, Melody |

Sue |
Thank you Melody and Sue. He is a 29 year old Lt. in the Navy -- but has a special mission on the ground in Iraq. Usually he's up in a jet. The work he will be doing will save a lot of lives, both US and Iraqi, so he feels pretty good about it.

Dakota:
Tell your son, that we will all sleep a little better knowing there is a good guy over there fighting for his country. There aren't too many good guys around any more. You should be very proud. Mel |
Well, it has been a very uneventful holiday weekend and Im back in the office today to get a jump start. Sounds like all of you are having a decent holiday (for the most part) and having a little fun or at least some relaxation!
This is my SEVENTH pain free day (with the exception of the one episode)! WOO HOO! On Friday night I actually cooked and had friends over, to include FIVE kids and five other adults and it was a madhouse. OH MY GOSH I have missed that so much! On Saturday nothing special...then cooked out at my nephews on Sunday and did a little shopping...a very little. I must tell you...one of the worst things for me in this has been my loss of pride in my appearance. I wear dresses / suits every day for work but have quit taking any pride because 1) I have been in pain; 2) I have been depressed; and BECAUSE I AM REDUCED TO WEARING UGLY SHOES..ALL THE TIME! This weekend I found a cute BUT STILL SENSIBLE pair of shoes at Dillards marked down from $70 to $17...and I am very excited about them...maybe they will make me feel a little better as they will certainly "go" better with my clothes! I have an 18 year old son....brought up with me working in law enforcement, brought up in church, taught right from wrong, loved more than any child could have been loved in a huge network of family, never did without a thing thanks to my many sacrifices...straght "A" student, gifted and talented program, and the list goes on. My dear child is now PRISON BOUND through a series of poor choices and greed for money...and I am not sure I can do this....holidays are rough...even something like Labor Day. Have worried a lot this weekend about how I will manage through his birthday...TGiving, Christmas, etc....but I know I will somehow... But I digress...(as I usually do)....just wanted to say I am glad you all are enjoying the holiday and mine has been pleasant as well! |
Belinda:
I just sent you a private message. Hope you are feeling better today. And don't worry about the shoes. Put on a pretty skirt and you'll feel a bit perkier. Melody |
My daughter and I are sitting at home watching movies. She will be going home on Wednesday, I will miss her.
I took her to the ocean yesterday, even though she really isn't impressed with it. I think she is afraid of the water and the ocean can be a bit intimidating. Then I took her to Argyle Lake and she fed the geese and swans. They are so tame here, even more so than our tame ones were! Today, I found out it's against the law to feed the geese here--oh well, if that's the only law I break--cool!:D The walk in the sand was a bit much for my tummy muscles though and I am very achy today. Along with the constant vibration in my right heel. So, I think today will be movie day! |
Deb:
Boy, did your post bring me back to when I visited my mother when she was living in Florida. There was a lake behind her development. I had never seen a lake in anyone's development before so of course I went for a look. Well, the most beautiful geese and ducks and ducklings were swimming (like a family) across the lake. They swam over to me and started to follow me. I thought to myself "wow, how cool is this, and I began to throw breadcrumbs to the little family and they just kept following me home to the front of my mother's condominium. Well, just imagine me smiling and laughing and going "oh how adorable is this??" and everybody is running out of their house yelling at me saying; "are you nuts, we try and keep these things out in the lake, we'll never get rid of them now, you just fed them". No one talked to me that whole day. I thought they were out of their mind. All I saw were little ducklings following their mother and all these people saw were birds that pooped on their front lawns. I can laugh about it now, but it really was a beautiful sight to see. Melody |
Ok Ok
Going to urgent care to get yelled at and some antib. wish me luck..
Dek, bless his heart, and for others feel better and i can't stand when my Children go home,i know they must but!!! What do i look for in yellow, pages,i think i have termites what are the bug men called. yikes, what does a temite look like...I think i have never meet a group of such fine people. Bless your hearts. will post later, Hugs to all..Sue Daniel stay off of my feet..please |
On Saturday, I took myself to a movie at the cheap theatre as my husband was out of town. I saw "1408" which I really enjoyed. It was the first time I had driven at night since November I think.
Yesterday, I took myself to lunch. Went to the Outback and discovered that their barbecue sauce is now gluten free. It was the first time I'd had barbecue in a restaurant in five years. Today, my husband was back in town and took me to a department store to buy pajama shorts as the only pair I have is almost 10 years old and has holes in it. Just looking was so exhausting that I had to rest in the dressing room for a bit. I bought three pair of shorts so I won't have to buy anymore for at least a decade, I hope. This was a very busy weekend for me. I seldom leave the house on weekends. fanfaire  |
Hey Sue.....Sounds like you need an Exterminator to get rid of those pesky bugs! I think they are a white/clear color....not very big.....but boy can they eat wood!
I hope you feel better after the antibiotics! Urgent Care can be a blessing! It's always hard when Mike and I drive up to Nebraska to see my family and then having to leave my son, his wife and their daughter.......I cry half the way home. :( Take care Sue!! |
HI Fanfaire!
Cheap movies can be a great place to see some good movies! I love action movies and ones that make you smile. It's good to get out once in a while and see the sites.....as long as there's a place to rest along the way! I love Outback......my best friend and I go there once in a while to eat. We bought their chocolate dessert (can't think of the name of it) but it was SOOOO good! LOL Probably had 1000's of calories but we didn't think about that then! LOL |
Melody, thank you for your supportive words for my son. It helps to know that there are people who appreciate the "boys over there". We had a lot of heartaches with him during his high school and college years, and we are so greatful that he turned around. We all put our hearts into our kids, but sometimes there are things that influence them or happen to them that are out of our control. We can't take all the blame or all the credit. A lot of life is a crap shoot.
|
Sue: here's some info on Termites
|
Roxie:
The Outback's chocolate dessert is called CHOCOLATE TOWERS. It's 7 layers of Chocolate Cake. It would put me under the table.... lol Melody |
The Outback does have one dessert that is gluten free. It is called Chocolate Thunder From Down Under! It is a flour-less brownie topped with vanilla ice cream and hot fudge sauce.
Since I am diabetic, this is not something I can eat often. But I have my husband's promise that we will go there every Valentine's Day and split that dessert. Only five more months to go! :D Most of the movies I see are rented from Netflix. I like being able to stop the movie periodically and get up and stretch, take a potty break, grab something to eat, etc and then pick up where I left off. And of course I get to view it from the most comfortable seat in the house! :D But there is something to be said for the experience of seeing certain films on a theatre screen. I go a couple of times a year. It has to be a really good movie for me consent to climbing all those stairs (can't sit in the front or I'll get motion sickness) and then have to sit still for two hours without a break. fanfaire  |
Haven't been to a movie in so long!!!
Not even because we don't have a car, either. If we want to go somewhere we go with Access-a-ride. We have seen many movies that way.
But recently, (well this happened so much I couldn't take it any more), they jack up the volume in the movie theatre so much I had to wear ear plugs. Some guy came over to me and said "Oh you have a hearing problem, would you like a voume amplifier??" I wanted to punch him upside his head. I said "are you asking me if I want the sound LOUDER???" and he said "yes, many people do this" I said "well, I'm not one of them, as a matter of fact, it's too loud already". So I just stopped going. It's like no one wants to sit next to the band at a wedding reception. If that ever happened to me, I'd be on the first ride home. I do NOT like loud noise of any kind. It's like I have super sensitive hearing. I can hear everything outside. I was never like that as a young woman. I went to discos and danced all night long. The noise never bothered me. But now as I approach 60, I guess I AM getting Old, aren't I??? lol I can't imagine sitting in a movie theatre with all the booming sounds, percussions, vibrations, coming from all directions. Takes me back over 30 years (when noise didn't bother me at all), and I went to see the movie Earthquake with Charlton Heston and Ava Gardner. It was produced in a new format called Surround Sound (anybody ever see this in that format)??? Well, I will never forget sitting in the seat and all of a sudden the whole theatre started to shake with vibrations when the earthquake scene came. I knew immediately "this was not for me". I must be very weird to not like loud stuff going on around me. Maybe it was years of using a Sony Walkman to listen to my Beegees and the Soundtrack of Saturday Night Fever?? Melody |
Good Morning Fanfaire!
That's the dessert my friend and I split! OMG it was SOOO good!! We really enjoyed eating it and sitting there yakking for a cpl hrs. We always meet at a restaurant to eat and then go shopping at our favorite clothing store.....Fashion Bug...then we go for dessert somewhere so we can sit and yak some more! lol Mike and I love Netflix! We just joined last month and we've gotten some great movies. Also we've rented the episodes from the tv show "Hero's" that we've missed so we can be ready for the new season in a cpl weeks. :) We love that show! I'm a Hito fan! Also we can download movies to our computer so we're going to do that with some of the old "Dr. Who" BBC tv shows that I loved dearly! Technology is SUCH a wonderful thing!! My husband loves 'going' to movies so we do that sometimes too.......tho since my PN has gotten a little worse it's hard for me to sit in a cold theatre. So I wear a warm blouse and take a jacket.....and if I don't need to wear it then I lay it over my lap to keep my legs warm! lol But we have seen some great movies at the theatre this year. Hope you are having a nice day! |
Morning Mel!
What I hate is when you pay good money to go to a theatre and some idiot brought their baby or toddler to the movie and they cry or talk thru the whole thing! We have gotten up and moved and also told the manager about it and he went up to them and told them they either had to leave or keep the children quiet. I don't feel bad about that because I don't think babies need to be at a theatre anyway. We have noticed that movies get louder and louder too. It's crazy. I don't know why they think movies need to be that loud! I remember when Surround Sound came out too. It's wild to hear the sounds all around you! Like I said.....Technology is a wonderful thing! |
Hi Roxie:
Yeah, Technology is WONDERFUL!!! Especially when it allows me to hand my husband a pair of headphones so I don't have to hear all that booming in my house. My living room is over 30 feet and the vacuum, well, something about sound bouncing off walls. I never heard such loudness in all my life. My apartment is not cozy. I used to have a small living room. This big living room, dining room combination, (and I don't have rugs, just ceramic tile), well, someone explained to me once that sound bounces off walls and floors and when you have a room as big as mine, with no rugs, well, THERE YOU GO!!! All I can say is thank heavens for headphones. I would have gone mad years ago. Now I am off to visit my sick friend. oh boy, this I am not looking forward to. mel |
HI Mel, How did the trip to your friend go? I'm sure it was not as easy visit, but I'm sure it was greatly appreciated! Bless you.......
