Alison,

Just to err on the side of caution, this should be brought to the attention on your doctor.

take care,

I can't handle Lyrica, I have breathing trouble and also it knocks me out, I can barely stay awake. Keep on top of every little thing and report to your doctor. Writing things down as they happen can help. Good luck.

I had breath problems, chest pains and mood swings with Lyrica - please go and see your doctor ASAP as it sounds like it is not agreeing with you.

Goodluck

Breathing Difficulties with Lyrica

I started taking Lyrica the end of January. Within about twenty minutes after my first dose I was having slight difficulty breathing, tightness in my chest, and, later, coughing. I continued taking it another couple days hoping the side effects would go away but they were getting worse so I discontinued it. Now, more than four months later, I am still having difficulty breathing and coughing. I am working with a pulmonolgist to find out what's going on.
If it were just an allergic reaction, the problem should have gone away soon after I discontinued the medication. Has anyone else experienced lung/breathing problems from Lyrica that continued well after you quit taking the medication?

Hi Ali,

This hits home with me. I took Lyrica awhile back. Would have to look at the bottle for the exact time but I have had breathing problems ever since. I am again dealing with it today. I never even thought about that but my Dr. monetors my heart and breathing everytime I go in. When he was out of town awhile back I had to see my PA and she said I had some tightness in my chest but they cannot pinpoint the problem. I see him Wed. and again I have to bring this up.

Be sure and get a hold of your Dr. From what others are saying, it could be the culprit.

I don't answer you post all of the time but I am always thinking of you.

Ada

I agree about calling your doc. I know I had a horrible time with breathing and an out of it feeling. My dosage was too high they felt for my body. For me it just was not a good med for me.

I was on lyrica for a nubmer of years and then went off of it last year. Shortly after that I got a cough for 4 months and shortness of breath. Now the cough has decreased but the lungs are getting worse. I have had lung tests and now going for a lung scan and ct scan to check for blood flow. After reading your article I never thought Lyrica could be a culpret. I have been diagnosed with a lung disease I think they are thinking copd but I think now it could be related to lyrica. I have crps. Thanks for bringing this to my attention to start questioning lyrica with the medical profession.

reply:
I have been on lyrica for a couple of years and when I went off of it last year I started to loose alot of weight (40lbs) and then I started with a cought for 4 months then it slowed down and now I am having chest pain and lung problems I have had all the lung tests and now going for a lung scan and ct scan. I will bring up the use of lyrica when I see my specialist. He says I have a lung disease but not should if it is COPD OR RSD RELATED.
Thanks for bring lyrica to my attention. I never thought it would have anything to do with it.

Hi Alison,
Sorry you are having additional problelms. I don't like the sound of this. Can't believe I'm having the same problems. I changed from Neurotin to Lyrica several months ago. I have a rattling sound in my lungs and cough. I have had it for quite a while, I can't remember if the rattle part comes when I am breathing in or out. It's one of them.I think I see my Dr. tomorrow and will talk about this. Take care and let us know what the Dr. says. I'm thinking I'm going off Lyrica. Have been worried for some time. Didn't have a clue it might be connected with meds. Take care, Loretta

loretta 11-10-2008 03:50 AM

Hi Allison, Sorry about the breathing problems. I have them too for several months now.
I guess I just thought of infection and didn't even tell my Dr. I see him tommor - I have a rattle that comes and goes. I'll post tomorrow and write what he says. But I'm thinking I want to go off the Lyrica. 300 mg. Take care and let us know what your Dr. says, Loretta

loretta 11-10-2008 03:55 AM

Thanks Soxmom, I had trouble going up and down stairs too. I hope I lose weight, because I've gained 50 lbs since going on neurotin 3200 mg and Lyrica 300 mg. Talk about change, can't wear any of my clothes. I'm mad about that. I have a rattle and cough I'm concerned about, glad I see the Doc tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Loretta

loretta 11-10-2008 04:05 AM

Hi Dream Believer, My name is Loretta, and I read your posts too, Thanks. I can't believe it either, but that's when my lung problems started and the rattle, in my chest. I see my Dr. tomorrow, so will ask to go off it. Was on Neurotin before 3200 mg. to get all my symptons of shocks, jerks, shooting pains spasms to go away. Just about kept me in bed all the time. I don't know how those with small children manage. I have a good friend, 5 small children,2 of them are her sons who died. She has full body too from car accident. My daughter is grown and married, but is so kind and helpful. She cleaned a lot in the house when she was here last, bathrooms and floors, the tuff stuff. She knows about RSD and other disasters, she is a court reporter and hears a lot of tough stuff. She did one on a woman who had RSD. They moved away last year when her husband was hired by one of the airlines. He loves it. But they miss here and are moving back in a couple weeks. I think they will live with us for a little while , while they decide where to live. I'm so glad, so is my husband. We get along fine. He hopes to get a transfer to lax and will commute till then.
I'll post tomorrow and see what the Dr. says. Thanks so much to all of you for talking about this common problem and possible connection with Lyrica. Loretta

loretta 11-10-2008 04:21 AM

Thanks Katro for the information. It's good they are taking all of those tests. That's all we need is lung problems from meds. I have been have difficulty breathing and a rattle the comes and goes. and a cough. See the Doc. tomorrow. will let you all know. Thanks so much for the info. I take 300 mg. of Lyrica and before that 3200 mg of Neurotin. I want to go off, just don't want all the jerks electrical shocks and spasms. Will let you know what happends. tomorrow. Loretta
