Sometimes I watch her show late at night when they they repeat the day's show here. Sometime I can't deal with her. IF I watch this show on Monday it would be to see how she handles the topic. I'm doubtful. Mari |
I doubt I will be able to watch it, Jackie gets home when hwe show comes on and I have to watch whatever he wants. I wish she'd put it online too. She has the resources, why not do it all up like other networks do and make episodes available online on her site? :p
I agree though, it will be interesting to hear how she deals with the topic. :( |
this months' O magazine has an interesting article about bipolar illness.
|
Thanks for the notice! I hope I can watch it too.

Ah but that was before that woman set her three daughters on fire this week:
http://www.goupstate.com/article/20070917/APA/709170787 I wonder if that story will influence her show's slant at all. I am going to try to watch it and see... |
What time does Oprey come on?

Oprah Winfrey is a self-serving witch. One of the most powerful women in America she dictates her opinions as faultless truths to an audience of 14 million viewers per day.
She panders to her audience's biggest fears and perverse curiosity to maintain her ratings. Sadly I fear most of her audience are incapable of or willing to discover the truth for themselves. To quote E-Online, "If Oprah told American women to run naked through the mall, they'd do it". http://www.stardoll.com/en/dolls/559/Oprah_Winfrey.html |

can you imagine me on the Oprah show with an audience full of adoring fans? it'd be a bit like Jerry Springer, don't you think? Except I wouldn't take my clothes off or anything... |

Did anyone see the show on BP? I forgot to try to watch. Well it was more like I chose not to try to watch I think. I wonder what kind of angle her show dealt with it on. :(

I saw Oprah's show

Here are my notes: Orpah's show was not bad. She was quiet and let the guests do the talking. 1. First she had on the mother in jail for killing her son. I muted most of that part. Two friends were on as well. They said that the mother had problems much earlier but that they were not recognized or taken seriously -- I wasn't listening hard to this section, as I said. The mother said that she was happy to get the dx (she got dx'd in jail after her court stuff) becuase the dx was an explanation for her of what was going on in her head. 2. Then Kay R. Jameson spoke a bit about bp in general. She said it is a "common illness" and a "serious" one with a "myriad of manifestations." She called it a "disorder of the brain." I appreciated that she mentioned mixed states, saying that people have manic energy levels at the same time as they have a depressed mood. She also said that she feels that the disorder is still under diagnosed. 3. Then Maurice Bernard and his wife (from General Hospital) came on from California. He stopped flying airplanes after he had boarded and had a panic attack. He got off the plane and has not been on one since then. He said that beiing bipolar is like being in a nightmare and unable to wake up. When he described how he feels sometimes he said that he feels like "God and the Devil are fighting. In my case, God usually wins." Recently General Hospital did a story line related to Bernard's bp. It was getting too intense for him so his wife called the writers and asked them to pull back. 4.Then Jennifer Lewis (from Medea's Family Reunion and other stuff including a voice in Disney's upcoming The Princess and the Frog ) talked for a while. My notes are sketchy. She talked about how difficult it is to be bipolar in the Black community. She said that her mania helped her perform her one woman show. She also bought a 2.3 million dollar house while manic. But I think that she was able to keep the house with her work. She was funny when she spoke. Both Bernard and Lewis mentioned about how they sometimes play with the idea of going of their meds, but know that they have to stay on them. Bernard was specific about taking Lithium but Lewis did not not menition the names of her meds. 5. Kay R. Jameson spoke again at the close of the show. She was first dx'd around 17/18 years old. She said people with bp need --a good dr --a good dx --to read read read about the disorder --ask the dr lots of questions -and so on. NEXT WEEK ON OPRAH: Sinead O'Conner talks about being bipolar on Thursday October 4. |
Thanks for posting this Mari, I am glad that you saw the episode, I was afraid it would be bad, but from what you've said it sounds like it was pretty informative. :)

I saw the show as well. I thought the shows entry was sensational and perhaps too upsetting for folks who might turn it on and then turn it off and therefore get a horrible "take" on the illness. I've always really liked Oprah, but very recently am beginning to question her judgment/motives. However, for the most part, I thought the show was good. Out of all the guests, I liked Lewis the best. She said that she struggled with the illness and that she had to work hard to be stable. She talked about the importance of staying on her medication and how therapy has also been helpful. Her genuine smile, enthusiasm and success revealed how her hard work has paid off very well.

Hi,
I think that Lewis runs kind of manic and is fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHYEpIdEAPk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2WHbupnHZ4 -- no visual, volume only -- but it is funny Bernard seems to run depressed/anxious. He looked fragile -- for lack of a better word. Has anyone seen him on youtube doing a PSA for DBSA? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZhlnGB39ssc -- a few seconds long. Here is the scene from General Hospital that Oprah played. It shows him in his bad state. it's not too instense, but don't watch if you get triggered by this sort of stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9TR0xRxCEI Is anyone going to watch Sinead O'Conner talk about being bipolar on Thursday October 4? |
I am going to try and remember this will be on tomorrow and to watch it.
Thanks, Nikko:hug: |
Patty Duke is supposed to be on the Thursday show too.

I read a book about Patty Duke, can't remember the name of it now.

going to bed
Hi,
I actually tremendously dislike Oprah. She has a huge following, yet wastes her enormous potential. She could achieve a great deal of good in the world. Still, I have been watching her because she is the only thing on from 1:35-2:35 AM when I am still up. So instead of turning off the TV and getting myself involved in reading or going to bed (THERE"S AN IDEA!!!), I watch her show. Tonight I will tape it because I am not in the mood. And I really might go to bed early-ish tonight. Take care, people. Mari |
Hubby just woke up from his nap.
He's watching the show. Do you think that Oprah could do a good job on bipolar two weeks in a row? Mari |
I missed it. Was it any good? This is the 2nd time she did a show on BP correct? I wonder why.
Let me know how the show was. Thanks, Nikko:hug: |
