Jaye Having Hip Replacement Tuesday
Hello all,
I saw Bemm's well wishes for Jaye in another thread and am copying it here to start its own thread. Jaye will be hospitalized for surgery and physical therapy from Tuesday through Saturday. She will be calling and checking in with me so if you want to send her any thoughts or messages either post here or private message me. Once she gets home on Saturday, she'll be able to talk by phone and computer. SO Jaye, it goes without saying , friend, that you are in my thoughts and prayers and I'm looking forward to the day you can say you are pain, or at least ALMOST [dang PD] pain free. Love and best of wishes, Paula |
From birte
GOOD LUCK Jaye.
If courage flags a bit, think of England's Queen Mum's hip replacements! She had two of them, and I remember a little vignette of her in a film clip of a church service: There was a lot of standing up and sitting down - and the Queen Mum was up and down and up again as quickly and as easily as the young people aroud her - and that was with two new hips - and she must have been well over thirty years older than you at the time. Royal hips or real people's hips - the replacements really work. I paid attention to it because it was quite jealous-making. I can't get up without a major struggle. Mend well and quickly. The very best wishes from birte |
Wishing you an uneventful and successful surgery and a speedy recovery.
Looking forward to your return when you feel up to it. |
Jaye, you're going to be so happy you had this surgery. A hip replacement is a wonderful operation with an extremely high success rate. I'm a physical therapist, and have helped many people get moving again after the operation. I see them once they are discharged from the regional hospital, usually 5-7 days and by then many of them are saying they have no pain or just a little. (They are still on some kind of pain med, of course.)
Just do your exercises, and keep smiling! You will be looked after by acute orthopaedic physical therapists, and they may not know very much at all about PD - many of us have become very specialized and don't know much about other types of problems. You might even want to write up a little blurb for them about how you are affected now as far as mobility goes so they'll have a better understanding of where you're coming from. I'll be thinking of you and praying for an excellent outcome. |
Jaye..My thoughts and prayers go out to you my dear..Hope to see you walking the next time I see you..;)
Keep us posted, and Godspeed..You know the deal..;) |
Jaye:
This is a surgery with a really good response rate. I know people who have had both done...they were so pleased they think they'll do it again :D
I think the new hip comes with a 20 year warranty doesn't it? Where will you be in 20 years I wonder. Dancing at the Waldorf? May the Force be with you. I'll say a little prayer for you that all will go as planned. JW |
Best To You Jaye!
You will do well. (She lost 30 lbs. in preparation for the surgery!)
You're in our prayers for a doctor who is a perfectionist, a nursing staff that rules, and lots of friend support! (Notice I didn't even mentionn your hubby - he's da best already). ;) Peg |

hips
My wife had new hips put in some years ago. They had her up and walking the next day. Five weeks later she fired me as her primary care giver. Said that I was nursing to excess. She's glad she did it...getting the new hips, not firing me. She walks better and faster then ever.
All the best, Lloyd |
Jaye, when I met you in DC, you were in too much pain to hang out with the rest of us over the weekend. You have a great spirit and I know you'll do well with your surgery. I'm looking forward to Chicago next year so we can zip around the Windy City! Go get 'em!

nuts and bolts for hip
Hi Jaye-
I've had 3 hip replacements in the same hip ( due to dislocation at birth). The first one lasted 10 years. The second one felt the best, but the orthopedic surgeon didn't put in hardware to hold it together--which is the way it is usually done, and would have been fine, except that I have dyskinesia from pd meds...and dislocated THREE times after the surgery. (not pleasant!) So he had to operate again to add the nuts and bolts that hold the hip together when the dyskinesias occur. Make sure your surgeon knows that you'll need the hardware. Most patients don't generally need it, so the surgeon will let the cells of your body adhere to the new prosthesis. This, however, doesn't work with parkies. Good luck to you! Diann |
Jaye, you are a .....
Jewel! (I hope that worked.) You will shine even brighter in a couple of weeks.
With my prayers and best wishes, Robert |
Jaye,
My father had this surgery, with PD, and it went quite well, and he healed quickly. His surgeon used an operating room that was pretty sterile. It was like a sterile hood, where I do my lab work. They did it there because infection after surgery is a real possibility. I don't know it it's standard to use this kind of operating room. Has your surgeon mentioned it? I hope your room is one of the sterile ones. Best wishes, ~Zucchini |
Hi Jaye,
Wishing you many blessings for your surgery and beyond - Lindy xx |
Jaye, The positive power of prayer related to medical issues including surgery is well documented. Something like 290 out of 300 studies have varified this phenomenon. You are in my prayers. Stay positive and Get Well.

From the bottom of my heart...
...thank you, each of you, for all your good wishes, prayers, and advice, here and in private messages. Paula started this thread a little early, and I'm grateful for that, because these last few days are the hardest, and I'm putting all this positive energy to good use. I can't put any weight on my left leg at all, can only get around in a wheelchair, and have given up going out for anything. My spirits are good nonetheless, thanks to good people like you. I look forward to giving you a good report soon.
Blessings, Jaye |
Bumping this up for prayers and thoughts as Jaye undergoes surgery at 7:00 am in the morning. Her daughter wrote and reminded her about clean underwear so everything should be in order.....gotcha Jaye.
God Bless, Paula |
I'll be praying for jaye
