My project this weekend!

I like to do things when H is gone for a few days! Well, this 4-day hunting trip was my opportunity to do some upgrading in the kitchen.

I think I have rocks in my head!

We have a soffit in the kitchen. A few years ago, I put a wallpaper border on it. (This is the famous one that cost $1500 - that included the ride in the ambulance to the ER when I took a tumble off the counter due to Baclofen...)

I decided it was time to remove that cute border paper and replace it with paint. Anyone ever remove wallpaper? NOT FUN! The guy at Home Depot LIED to me. He said, oh it's easy. Just use the Gel stuff called Dif and it will come off real easy. Yeah right. The top layer. Then you gotta wet down the bottom later and scrape, and scape, and scrape...

That took me all day Saturday. But I used a ladder, not the kitchen counter. ;)

Sunday, I cleaned up the wallpaper crap all over the floor, then got started painting. The color is called Lost Atlantis by Behr from Home Depot. It's a pretty shade of silvery pewter Blue. Dark. Kind of matches the blue in my kitchen floor and some of the blues in my kitchen.

I only painted the soffit. So far. I want to paint one of the walls, the one behind the stove, but I have run out of time. I need to get this done and cleaned up before HE comes home this afternoon.

I am all done!

I like it Cheryl, it makes a nice accent.

 You have my cabinets!

I hate wallpaper.....our first house had wall paper on almost every wall in the house. We decided to get rid of the wall paper in the kitchen and livingroom. We were also told it's easy to remove.....but not.

After working to get all the wallpaper off, which took quite some time, we decided not to paint until we got back from vacation. So, we get back and waiting for my DH is a job offer in Colorado and we had 2 weeks before he started his new job

I am certainly glad you didn't fall but your braver than I am.....I don't do ladders anymore ;)

tovaxin_lab_rat 10-22-2007 01:42 PM

thanks LeeAnn! I hate ladders...I am afraid of heights. But after that fall I took hanging the border, I felt it was a lot safer than walking along the counter like I did last time!

I had the ladder close enough to the counter that I could use it to balance off of...which helped a lot. I really wanted to get this done and I like it.

Now to get rid of the WHITE WALLS in my office...I have enough of this color left, and the Tan from the other bedroom that when we goes elk hunting...watch out!! :trampoline:

I love it! How can he not love it? Come on. Think about it now. He did not have to do any of the work or clean up.

It looks fantastic!

I am so proud of you!

(No 9-1-1 calls!)

I am actually shocked! He came home last night from bird hunting and didn't notice. But this morning, he did. And didn't scream, yell, or anything. Looked at it and said, you've been busy. Looks ok. Did you do anything else that I need to go looking for? That was it. ;)

He hates change. Absolutely hates change.

come on Cheryl, how hard could it really be? I mean, on Trading Spaces they redo the whole room in just an hour (including commercial breaks!) Sounds easy enough to me!!

This said by the person who is too lazy to actually finish painting the molding along the floor in her kitchen....

Good job and just beautiful, Cheryl. PODH (figger it out).

All my woodwork needs repainting....only because the painter, who was recommended by DD, completely flubbed the original job and the paint is chipping everywhere. I asked him to sand first but he didn't do it.

Cheryl
The color is awesome. I'm so proud of you girl. And no ER bills either. WooHoo!

Pay no attention to H, he sounds like a stick in the mud anyway. It's a nice compliment to the cabinets. Well Done. A huge, yet gentle, pat on the back to you. Kukos.

The "no ER bills" was definitely a plus this time! ;)

The project ended up being a lot more involved than I thought it would be and my hands sure do hurt today! But it did turn out nice!

That's beautiful Cheryl, GREAT WORK!! When I finish with school I'll have lots of little projects to do in my house. And it seems that one leads to another... ;)

Bartira is a riot! When she gets going, with that Brazilian accent, you can't understand half of what she says! We start laughing and by the time we are done with our visit, our sides hurt, and we both need about a gazillion hours of sleep!

P*ss on DH...

Thanks DM...I like it too. Done with the ladders and counters. Well, maybe not.

He's leaving tomorrow for elk hunting. I just might have another project. I do have 3/4 of a gallon of paint left. And I have 3/4 of a gallon left from painting the guest room. My office sure could use some paint. And the colors do coordinate nicely.

Chair rail? Or one whole wall? Decisions, decisions, decisions...

I do have some paper shredding to do as well. Gotta get that done first....#1 priority!
