Handicap parkin!

In the past we've talked about handicap parking. But there was this big story on my local news tonight. And something happened with me last week while I was in a handicap parking place...so I thought I'd share the local news story with you all. And make sure you all check out the sights posted in there about handicap parking fraud. The one site you can actually order sticky notes and leave them on cars that are parked wrongfully in the spots.. ... specially the motorcycle's that park in the stripped area around the handicap parking...it tells you to write down their tag number, take a pic of their vehicle or motorcycle there...then leave them the sticky note...so they can go to the site and see theirselves parked illegally.

Last week I was in town in Knoxville, and I came out to find a note sayin

"shame on you! you walked in!"

This was left on my window. I was so ticked off, it was not even funny. I of course wrote a not so nice note back tell them to mind their own &%^%$ business. I was ticked off. I have had my tag now over 8 yrs. And this was my first note ever! Left on my car.

Then this story appears on the news tonight, so I just had to share this.

I am so glad to see you posting again. I have been thinking of you and wondering how you were. But I do know you keep busy with the girls.

I laughed when I saw your post and then got on the site and saw Wal-Mart named. That is a conversation a friend of mine and I have all of the time about Wal-Mart. She is in a wheelchair and I can walk but I do have my handicap hanger in my car. I will park other places on a good day but if I am using a cane or just having problems with my feet, I will try and find a handicap parking spot.

When we go to Wal-Mart we see cars parked in the handicap spots with no stickers what so ever. I very seldom can even find a spot and we live in a small town. The only thing here is that I live in a retirement town and we have a lot of disabled in this county so even if others weren't taking the spot, I would most likely have a problem finding one.

It does make me and Lilah angry when people take these spots that aren't disabled. She can't even go into Wal-Mart if we park too far away unless someone can push her and I can't. She will stay in the car most of the time at any store.

I have thought many times about calling Wal-Mart and getting them to try and deal with this issue. I haven't because I just thought they'd pass it off as nothing.

We got a ticket one time for parking in a JCPenny parking spot. The snow had the whole ground covered and this was before they gave out the hangers for the mirror. Bill was diabled before me so it was for him. The court wouldn't throw it out but he had to sit for two hours in the jail talking to the guy there for his punishment. He loved people anyway so that didn't bother him. I don't believe though in this town we live in now that it is enforced enough.


We have talked about too how some of us look so normal with RSD. To look at me, you wouldn't think I had a problem. What gives me away is all of the scars on me. I have 2 on my neck and I also have a little bump now where the wires are sticking up from the VNS. When my feet are at their worst I am limping or using a cane otherwise, I look normal. Don't get too upset about it, we know where we are with the RSD and other problems, some people just don't see it.

I live both in a small town and go to a bigger town for shopping and the handicap parkin is hard to find and usually have to sit with a blinker on to get one at walmart. And like you guys alot of them dont have cards in there windows or special plates!! Or if they have place cards they use them and dont need them!! NY has red ones that gives you 6 mos for temp disabilities and i see them all the time that are expired by YEARS but they think noting of it and use it for the spot!! expecially during the xmas shopping season!!!

I have a story that goes with this, my sis was driving my car and we were at oldnavy and parked in a handicapped spot and she got out first and came around the front of the car to see if i needed help , bc it was winter out soo it can be slippery.. and this lady came up to here and said , do you really need a handicapped spot, and my sis said no, but my sister does and the lady looked at me and by that time i was outta the car and she looked at my foot and said god i wish my doc gave me one of those when i had foot surgery and i was soo p****d off that i spat back and said well .. did your foot suregey go on for 5 years and crooked like mine....she looked at me and walked away in to oldnavy and we followed her in. and she just kept giving my a bad look... i walk like a pirate and at that time i did even have a cane and every time she looked at me or talked to her friend about what happened (which she was all through out the store) I just said isnt it sad that people judge soo fast and dont even appoligize when they did wrong. Even the girl at the register asked me what was going on and i just told her the shorter version and she was like.. we get them alot and im not the only one!!

I just think its soo sad and I wish we had this kinda thing in my area bc I could get alot of tickets and get the word out there that these spots arnt just for convience... !!

I was at Wal-mart last week... I parked, legally, in a handicap designated space with my placard hanging from my rear-view mirror. I never really think about being able to get in and out of my car as the spaces have huge marked access areas---slash marks on painted in white and blue.

I have a wheelchair in the back seat of my car but didn't use it that day as my mother was with me and she went in and got one of the power carts for me to use.


Imagine my surprise and horror to come out and find a LARGE---Coca-Cola delivery truck parked in the access area next to my car. I was livid... then to top it off, the driver was unloading the truck with his cart less than 2 inches from my car. I told him he was in a handicap zone....he laughed and told me---it's not marked. I exploded---I pointed out the slash marks and told him those weren't placed on the ground as decorative art!!! He refused to move out of my way, refused to move his truck, kept unloading the contents of his truck forcing me to wait at least 5 minutes before I could even unlock my door. No big deal to him... but to me it was torture---is was very windy and about 35 degrees outside. This guy laughed at me the whole time I was forced to wait and then he took his cart and walked away...truck still sitting about 2 feet from my car.

I called the Wal-mart manager from my car after I was able to get in... he apologized over and over--told me he would take care of it... I tried to contact the regional manager for Coca-Cola but he has yet to take or return my calls....

Oh well.. that's my latest handicap parking zone saga....

Ok...Also at Walmart, Hubby is driving the car and he sees one of the ones right at the door that you part facing the store. A big van pulled in and a young couple get out, no plate no card hanging. We part a way out and I hubby goes and gets a chair for me. once in he demands a manager. A manager comes up and hubby tells her about the van and points to the couple that parked there. He was a Marine no less. My husband had words with the couple and they left the store and moved the van. hubby will always alert the manager when there are people parked in the spaces without plates or card. He hates to see me struggle, and he is one of those that would never park where he shouldn't.

He's a sweety tho.

I just had to repy to Debbie's problems with parking. I went to my neurologist's office yesterday here in the Philadelphia area [where it just recently got real cold]. Her office always has a lack of parking. There are a few handicap spots out front of her office so sometimes I luck out and park there. If there is an open spot in front of her office AND an open handicap spot I will have whomever is driving me park in the spot and leave open the handicap spot. However, there was no parking yesterday anywhere. I had my driver pull to the side of the curb and drop me off in my crutches and wheelchair. I noticed a big red BMW SUV parked in the handicap spot without plates or placard. I was furious and thought about calling the police but was busy with "trying" to get into the office and out of the cold. After my appointment with her, she comes out of her office with keys and says she has to move her car and that she was in the handicap spot. I turned to her and said that I was upset that she parked there because it is for people such as myself. She said there were no spots for over a block away. I couldn't believe her and told her she could get in alot of trouble for doing that and she moved it right away. I would give anything to be able to walk 10 blocks to my car without crutches and a wheelchair!!! I was shocked to see my own doctor parking there. I believe I got my point across to her. I felt she was embarrashed that I caught her and told her I had to park down the street!!! People just amaze me anymore. I like the idea of having a "Handicap Patrol" in each city. Good idea!

Abbie, Ohhh I would be callin that coke company in a heartbeat! That just really ticks me off!! That's just plain out wrong, and that man should loose his job for that one. I hope you've emailed coke. I'd go to their website and write up a big ole complaint! Heck I'd even be callin the news stations on this one! That is just plain wrong! Girl you give em down the road! Don't let that one get away with what he did.

Desi, the small town I'm from in Ohio, has a meter reader that rides around in this lil golf cart lookin thing, and writes tickets to those who park where they aren't supposed to as well....maybe we need those everywhere?

I always thought the law could and would write tickets for those who park in the handicap places and don't have proper tags. But it doesn't seem like they are doing that now.


Ada it's great to see you :hug: I have been busy with the kids, but also some other health probs..ugh its like if its not one thing its another...

I'd be mad to if the Doc was parkin there just to avoid walkin, now had there been an emergency and they just whipped into the first place to help someone, I'd be a lil less judgemental on that....but considerin she was just goin to work...ehh no...she should know better...

I'm gonna start carryin my lil digital camera with me, and takin pics n post em on that site when I see people parkin illegally like that...it's just wrong.

Also I thought about taking my paper from the doc...with his signature on there and havin a local printing company copy it and screenprint it to the back of a shirt...so the next time someone looks at me funny I can just bend over n show them my.... a&&....back of my shirt...laffs

Hello there,


Just thought I would share a story about the Disabled Parking Saga.
My daughter took me shopping the other day, there was one park left so we took it and all was well.
As we got my chair out we noticed there was no permit on the car next to us but there was a Learner's permit?
We commented on the self absorbtion of the person who thought they were worthy of this car spot and went inside.
We were only about an hour and when we came outside there was a big pink parking fine ticket on their window:D--$216 here in our city.
We were so happy they had got what they deserved and I commented on the fact that I would be even happier if I could see the faces on the people when they came back to their car to find the ticket and just as we were about to leave they came out:D
We sat and watched to see their reaction and all I can say was that it was better than winning lotto.
They were so angry:D It was a very bleached blond 16 year old with low slung jeans and her "thong' showing and her mum was equally as bleached and equally as "tarty" .
It made my day----My daughter is convinced now that it doesn't take too much to make me happy:rolleyes:

Hi everyone,
I live in the UK so things work different over here.
In the UK people that don't have a disabled blue badge and park in a disabled bay get a fine, although many people still park in the disabled bays and get away with it.
I was sat in my car one day when a car pulled up besides me, a young blonde female said to a man with a pot on his arm "move our car, we are not allowed to park in the disabled bay" and the man replied "so what, the hospitals told me that I will have the pot on my arm for 4 weeks". It is discusting. There are people disabled (like you and me) that need to park in disabled bays but can't because of people that think it is Ok to park in the bays when there is nothing up with them.
