What's on your plate?

I'm leaving on a jet plane..:D sounds like a song! So I wanted to wish everyone an early Happy Thanksgiving and traveling mercies if you're on the go.

I have no big dead bird on my counter this year but I know that some of you do. :p Cool Angel wonders why the wonder thread is so long....maybe someone will start a new one.

Have fun, be safe, stay strong and remember ....you aren't alone! :grouphug:

This afternoon my plate is full of preparing stuff to fill plates --- well, the sides of plates.
I'll make the family jello salad and the cole slaw minus the dressings .... yes, the dressings .... we require two kinds which I'll make today but won't add them to the cabbage & other stuff until tomorrow morning.
I'll do the relish tray.... hope I've remembered everything.
At 4:30 AM tomorrow I'll put a turkey breast in the oven to take along with the other stuff to the dinner at noon.

Any suggestions??

Wishing great joy -- wishing good food -- :grouphug:

DMACK 11-23-2007 07:36 PM

Your making me very hungry Wren..

I hope your Eating festival [ :DL.O.L.:D] Is a good one every body.

In honour of you YANKS:) I bought the biggest bag of spare ribs i could find, which are currently marrinating in my fridge for Saturday... I intend to have my own thanksgiving food fest.... [The turkey is sacred and will have to wait until XMAS DAY, but i'm working that day for the first time in 14 years, and i'm not cooking it:mad: Man thing.....urgh.... ignore me.....]

Alfe... # i'm leaving on a jet plane# .......#when will you be back again'# :D

Just think ............
It's now time to really start thinking about CHRISTMAS. Today's the 24th .... Isn't that just 30 days until Christmas Eve?
Is Christmas Eve a big deal in your home?

I wish I had some of David's spare ribs for dinner ......
How are you cooking those? I love BBQ spare ribs. I love spare ribs cooked on sauer kraut in the oven.

DMACK 11-24-2007 07:00 PM

:mad::mad::mad:

Curious 11-24-2007 07:25 PM

:o maybe try bbq sauce on the salad? just don't grill it.

i'm still in a grumpy mood. maybe we should start up the ticked off thread again. lol....wren can be ticked at david for not sharing his bbq. :p

i plan on staying ticked at hubby. yeah right...it takes daily meetings with some chick at the club for her to become a certified trainer. for 3 months. it takes 0. we don't certify trainers. what a jerk. i need to kick him to the curb.

Alffe 11-25-2007 08:32 AM

Where to begin! *grin We had the best time at Bizi's...I absolutly, positively have to have a turducken in my freezer! And will order one as soon as she sends me the address (hint, hint) :D

So glad we went early and beat the airport delays, and traffic jams. I know that some of you didn't believe me when I told you that they have drive thu daquiri places in Louisiana....will you believe this??? Bear crossing signs on the busy highway! BEAR crossing signs, like our deer crossing signs with the silouette of a deer....these are BEAR crossing signs. :D I took pictures to prove it and will send to Curious to post for me. (pssst Curious...I have an old fashioned camera that needs to get film developed so it may be a while)

It's hard to believe that yesterday I was sitting in the french market in No.Orleans having hot chocolete and beginet's, listening to jazz in the street..and came home late last night to scaping snow off my car and having the bluejays screaming at me this morning cause the feeders are empty.

But we are safe and sound...grateful for the time with loved ones!

I missed you all and have a lot of reading to do here. :grouphug:

Wren 11-25-2007 10:27 AM

Oh - it's COLD

But saying hello to Alf kinda warms the heart, huh? :p I'm glad to hear you had such a good time.

And I'm glad that wonderful Curious had been posting here :D

Nothing is on my plate today ...... I'm planning an easy dinner. Hopefully I can find something easy in the freezer.

Tomorrow will be difficult. I have to be in that neuropsych's office deep in the city at 8:30 AM  ready for 4 1/2 hours of non-stop testing that I take way too seriously and make too much of .... they have told me that.
They know it's not easy -- they instruct you to eat a "large, hearty breakfast and bring a snack" ....... as if that would help.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh poor me. :o I'd appreciate a prayer

Alffe 11-25-2007 11:47 AM

Sending you positive thoughts dear lady and sending up prayers.

Psssst....will you help me kick Curious's other half to the curb!! Grrrrrrrrrrrr

KathyM 11-25-2007 03:17 PM

I'm trying to figure out a way to stop my body from vibrating :o It feels like I'm still on the road, and it's giving me motion sickness.

Affle - I'm glad you and Bizi had such a wonderful time. :)

Curious - If you need any help, I have some old spiked heels you can borrow. :p

Wren - you'll be in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow.

Alffe 11-25-2007 04:21 PM

someone sent me this KathyM....I know you aren't coughing but I thought it might be comforting to try it...........*grin

Coughing cure
VICKS VAPORUB...TRY IT, IT WORKS
I wish I'd known this when my family was young during winter colds and coughs. I am going to try i myself. Share with young parents.
Isn't life strange When we had a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can 'taste' it.
Some of us have used Vicks Vaporub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I've never heard of this. And don't laugh, it works 100% of the time although the scientists at the Canada Research council (who discovered it) aren't sure why.
To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult as we found out personally), put Vicks Vaporub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines.
In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly. I heard the head of the Canada Research Council describe these findings on the part of their scientists when they were investigating the effectiveness and usage of prescription cough medicines in children as compared to alternative therapies like acupressure. Just happened to tune in A.M.Radio and picked up this guy talking about why cough medicines in kids often do more harm than good due to the chemical makeup of these strong drugs so,I listened. It was a surprise finding and found to be more effective than prescribed medicines for children at bedtime, in addition to have a soothing and calming effecton sick children who then went on to sleep soundly. Polly tried it on herself when she had a very deep constant and persistent cough a few weeks ago and it worked 100%! She said that it felt like a warm blanket had enveloped her, coughing stopped in a few minutes and believe me,this was a deep, (incredibly annoying! every few seconds uncontrollable cough, and she>> slept>> cough-free for hours every night that she used it.
If you have grandchildren, pass it on. If you end up sick, try it yourself and you will be absolutely amazed by the effect

******************

Let me know if you try it. :D I personally am going to try the garlic. :p

BJ 11-25-2007 09:36 PM

HAVE A GOOD WEEK ALL.

David

Alffe 11-26-2007 07:10 PM

Thanks for the welcome home David. We were no where near the 9th ward in New Orleans and that's where all the damage occured. We were in the French Quarter which was packed with people having fun..eating..lots of street artists...lots of jazz being played. We loved seeing it again..looking like we remembered it.....making a comeback.

KathyM 11-28-2007 04:30 PM

Thanks Alffe and David

I don't take any medications, and I'm a little leery of trying anything. With amyloidosis, it seems like what works for others has the opposite effect on us. Pain relievers don't work and make other symptoms worse. I can't take them because it would compromise the function of vital organs (liver and kidneys), and I may have to live with this disease for another 20 years.

The vibrating and nausea is caused by autonomic and sensory neuropathy, with a little trigeminal neuralgia, due to the amyloidosis. From head to toe it feels like my "engine" is idling on high, and it causes me to feel very dizzy and nauseous - can't even hold down water. If I eat anything while in this phase, the food gets stuck along the way and causes a lot of pain.

The ONLY thing that works for me is meditation and lying in bed until the room stops spinning on me. When it does, I can eat just about anything and keep it down. Until then it's difficult to be very chatty, and it's hard to think of anything else. Ack - now I'm thinking about food and it's making me sick! Back to bed for me. I'll be back as soon as I recover from this phase. :o

Alffe 11-28-2007 06:34 PM

This seems to be lasting a long time KathyM....maybe you ought to call the dr. You are attributing it coming on to the long car ride...did I get that right? It sounds like you've had this before...goes along with amyloidosis. Meditating...*grin. My son in law loaned me his book "Zen for Cats" and it's hysterical!!

Feel better! We miss you.
