Flood recovery day!
Saturday is the big day. Wish me luck!
We have a small team (6) to move what furniture first that did not get wet. Next, the furniture that did get wet that can be cleaned and saved. Lots of sorting to be done. Then, carpet to be cut up and pack out. Sheetrock to come out...insulation to come out. Pray that all goes quickly. Nappy, you take care of Buffy and Doggy for me! You be nice to them. Give them food and water. Pat them on the head. Go on, you can do it! |
Holy cow, I didn't realize that you'd had that much damage. What a drag, I'm sorry you'll be stuck doing all that nasty work all day. I'm glad you're all safe!
as for those fur-bearing creatures.... |
Jeeeez Taffy!
Sorry to hear that you are going through this! I also didn't realize you were "in that deep" so to speak! Sounds like you have some help and a plan and that's the start to getting it done. Prayers for you and you all be careful over there! I admire your calmness in the eye of this storm |
I can't believe all the damage, the news stations have been showing so much more of it now.
trees in the coast range - blown over or top half broken off roads washed out or sinkholes, train tracks washed out in the coast range, mud slides... Vernonia is a muddy mess again after only 11 yrs... we had a bad flood, wind, ice, snow melt in 96. In 96 it was more widespread along all the streams and rivers and filled up much of the Willamette valley lowlands with water and affected many more people. but the weather people all said that was a 100 yr flood some even said 500 yr flood...hhmmm:eek: |
Sheesh, Taffy, you didn't tell us that you had all that damage!!!!
I am so sorry, Honey, I hope the clean-up runs smoothly and quickly. I'll take care of your furries. |
Taffy
You are so brave and calm in the face of what seems to be quite a disaster. I'm glad you are safe and hope the cleanup to goes well. Please take care. |
Taffy
All your joking and good sense of humor you never let it be known that you also was hit very hard. You only cared about others. You are one of a kind. My prayers are with you and everyone that is going through this bad time. Joyce  |
Man oh Man Taff~ That stinkeths!! You have a hard day ahead of you, so just try not to overdo. You have shown us that even in tough times, your'e still the same Tuffy, *that should be your new name*
*luring poochies from Sal w/milkbone* Take care today Taff~~ :) |
Just checking in before I take off for the day, in case any of you needed a smack down!
Just clearing this up....my house did not get flooded! My 81 year old dad's did! So, what family is local (that means lives close by DM, not crazy in the head) will rally and help him get somewhat of a home back. The sad part for me is....I now will also have to deal with my mother's things that my dad would not let us touch. I am glad that she is not here to see her pretty things in ruins! (leaving with a smile on my face..sure that the poop-poop water will have that wiped off my face in about 5 minutes!) |
Taffy,
I am so glad to hear it wasn't your house. Been there, done that! No more carpet for me, try to keep everything off the floor that matters to me, etc. OTOH, sorry that your Dad got hit so hard. It cannot be easy at his age to have to see his home in a shambles, especially since he has all your Mom's stuff too. This may give him a new start on letting go of stuff, but even if it doesn't, he's lucky to have you to lean on. Bless you and your family and all your neighbors at this trying time. |
:) Hi Taffy,
Sorry to hear about your Dad's place but glad to hear the family is pitching in to help him get things back to normal. I know it will take some time. I know it will be rough for him to go through your Mom's stuff and have to depart with some of it. Hopefully not much of it is destroyed by the water. My Dad is 84 and my Mom is 83. They've been married for 65 years. I know when the time comes for one of them the other won't be far behind.:( Let us know what progress you made at your Dad's today. I hope you don't overdo but I know you will because that's the kind of person you are. Peace be with you and your family. :) |
I'm back! What an interesting day! I saw so much of my childhood, it was scary.
I saw things that I had given my mom, now ruined.:( How nice to see them again before pitching them into the garbage! The carpet is all gone and my big job was sorting. I still have boxes and boxes and drawers and drawers to sort! By the way, would anyone like a FREE sofa? The color is brown!:D |

Taffy, I am so sorry about all this...wish I could be there to help you!
We had a fire when I was in high school and lost everything and sort through all the debris was a mess. Hope it all goes well and you get back to normal! Hugs! |
Geez, Soggy, what a drag. I'm glad it's not your house but it can't be any easier to have to clean up that mess. Send the couch to dm, I'll even pop for shipping.

Are you dried out yet Traffy??? Oh not you AMN. I know I usually tell you to go DRY UP, but this is all about Troppy today.. take care.... |
I am headed over Tappy's way in the morning. I will check things out! Hopefully she's ok. I assume she's not going to be available for a meeting at the Cheesecake factory down my way, but just in case...let me know. I will be there til Wednesday.
I might need some cheering up...or something. Meeting with MIL tomorrow afternoon. Don't mind that big huge cloud near St. Helens...it's not the mountain blowing it's top! :D:eek::eek::D |
Hello Taffy,
I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of this. It sounds like a real mess. Just know that you have been in my thoughts all weekend. I hope things are much better for you as the weeks and days progress. All the best, Chris |
Thanks all!
One good thing is we get to dump all of the garbage for free all month.:D Yeah! Can you guess what wet, soggy, garbage would cost? Lots! So that is a great help! But then, it started to snow today. Not enough to do anything. Just enough to add to the slippery mud mess. Just enough to make my feet and fingers feel like they were going to snap off. I can't believe how much stuff my parents have (had) Like,my sister swung at a plastic golf ball and at the same time my mom open the back door and the ball and my mom's nose....yeah! Well, my mom saved the plastic golf ball. Our whole history is there. Emotional, funny, and creepy! We went thru a very quick downsizing the last couple of days. Some things are just stuff that can be replaced. Some things can just be memories now. (some things were so freak'n ugly, I was glad to throw away!:D) |
Hi Tiff! Wow... I was just reading an article about decluttering. *not in the way you have had to though*
It said in order to get rid of the sentimental hold an object has on you, to just look at the figurine with the crack in it, think of a good memory of it and then TOSS it. When you mentioned the golf ball, I thought of that. I have to declutter, not that I would ever want to have to do it the way your Dad did. I am keeping you all in my prayers, esp YOU; don't want our little Wiffy getting any more sore pinkies.... take care girlie....:hug: |
Hmmmmmmmm, Nice weather for digging through the mud for valuables...NOT. Snapping fingers and toes off is not allowed....find another way..K?:p
Hope all goes well at your Dad's house. Is he ok? |
Taffy,
I hope you're almost finished, I'm sorry you had to go through this. :( We had to sort through all our parents' stuff, but not in such a hurry like you've had to. I'm thinking about you, hope it's almost done and your hands and feet have warmed up. |
Taffy:
Hope you are all warmed up by now. Take care of yourself. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all. Joyce |
How ya' holdin' up, Flappy? Still alive (albeit pruny)?
|
Monday and I have to be back at work! (yeah, to rest at work)
It will take months before my dad is back into his home! This is not a quick fix. |

I hope you are doing well and your dad is doing well. It's going to take some time for everyone to get back to normal. Not quite like the Mt. St. Helen's volcano eruption, but there are a lot of homeless people in the area. Take care. |
Still thinking of all your family has had to go through Taggy! It's hard to imagine the mess you have been dealing with.
Take care and get back to work... No napping on the job!! *go in the Ladies Room and sneak a nap* :D |
Sounds very soggy there right now! Please take the time to rest when you can! We're all thinking about you folks out there!
And btw...jeeez...I saw the slides on the news...can it get any muddier? Hope things dry up soon! |
