New here, saying hello.
Hi, just making an initial post to say hello and see if my avatar and signature look ok.
I've been diagnosed since January of this year. I'm still mobile. I've probably had MS since the mid-90s, and just never had any troubling symptoms until my right hip went numb in April of 2006, and then got optic neuritis in August of 2006 I've had a bad week (not because of the MS) and am just wandering around the different MS forums because I'm bored and online shopping isnt any fun tonight for some reason. |
Hi, Erin! :Wave-Hello: Welcome to NeuroTalk!
I'm glad you've found us. Most of us have had a few bad weeks, so no need to explain all that. Just know that we're a pretty good bunch of folks here and we're always willing to listen or just have a few laughs. Welcome again, and please feel free to jump in anywhere.:) |
Hi Erin! Tell me we are better then shopping online? Anyhoo! So glad you found us and hope you stay!
|
Welcome Erin...great to have you here.:)

I'm just trying to not let all the bad stuff that's gone on for the past week or so bug me right now. So far, the online problems I've had are leaving me alone now...The real life stuff is a bit harder to deal with. (I live in Omaha, NE...spree shooting last week has me freaked still, christmas doesnt seem as exciting this year) At least my horrible problem with crocheting a shawl for my sister has resolved itself, and that was probably the most important problem I was having. (crochet is always important) Just 7 or 8 more rows and it can get shipped (after the obligatory showing-off photos have been taken) |
Welcome Erin! We are a fine group to stop and stay a bit with. We sometimes like to talk MS and sometimes just like to talk. You might find some forums like to talk MS only.
|
yes, I've been to one or two forums that dont really seem to like the off-topic conversations. (which may or may not be one of the reasons why I was having online problems...and my asbestos undies got all singed from the Flames) *sigh*
Right now I'm trying to decide if I want to use a stabby thing (you know, autojects for Copaxone) and then sit and watch in (pain and) fascination as I get a gigantic welt on my leg (for some reason it's doing that lately no matter where I shoot up) or if I just want to wait till morning to do it. The whole waiting till morning option is looking pretty good to me. That way I wont be scratching my thigh off while trying to concentrate on crocheting my shawl. I'm still waiting for them to invent one of those Star Trek healing contraptions (or maybe a G'oa'uld sarcophagus) so that the whole shooting up with drugs every day would just go away. |
Hello Erin and welcome! :)
|
Hi Erin: Welcome to this group. Hope you stay. I am only a member since Oct.and they are great bunch of people.
What I like about this site is that we talk about anything and everything and of course about our MS problems. With the different subjects it helps take your mind off of your serious problems and make you laugh and enjoy the moment. :) Joyce |
Hi Erin..:) I think I know of the Online problems of which you speak. Some people can be so judgement and critical...sheesh.
Sometimes we pick at each other here, but only in a fun, kidding way.:D Like AMA being the only sane one here...HA!....don't you believe it....she's a nut, just like the rest of them....except me, of course.:p Glad you're here, put on your velcro and stay awhile. |
Hello Erin,
I'm glad you've decided to join us. Welcome aboard!:) All the best, Chris |
Welcome Erin! :)
I'm often scarce, but I can attest to the fun of this forum. The people here are very nice as well. I hope you'll stay awhile! About shopping, you could do as I've been doing lately, go out and splurge and then return it a week later after buyer's remorse sets in. :o |
:) Hi Erin,
WELCOME TO THE NEUROTALK FORUM COMMUNITY AND ALL IT HAS TO OFFER! :D I'm glad you've found us and we are the right place to come no matter how you're feeling at the time. It is our job to listen, empathize, sympathize, and offer the support you request to get you through the day. Again, welcome. ;) |
I should not have helped my dad shovel snow!
I just woke up...well, I've been awake since noon (Central Standard Time) but I only just got up because my body is trying to tell me to not help shoveling snow or chipping ice of the driveway ever again.
Oh, and it's also telling me to go to bed earlier than 4am. The copaxone pharmacy called me a little bit ago. They're sending me a new box of C...I havent even started the last box. (*hanging head in shame* Apparently I dont shoot up every day) time to go see if I have any ibuprofen, I'd like to walk upright today. :thud: |
Erin, You have to listen to your body. It will tell you volumes of what's going on inside.
Shoveling snow and breaking up ice in the driveway????? What the heck were YOU thinking???? I hope you get some rest. It's obvious that you're NOT a good drug addict. You need to start "shooting up" to start feeling better. Keep us informed on how you're doing. We really care. :santa: |
Well, my dad is getting older. (68 in a few months) and he was trying to look like he's still in shape in front of the neighbor who came over and helped us out (neighbor is 72)
I havent told the neighbors here yet (former neighbor in our old neighborhood knows) about the MS yet, so they always look at me weird when I dont help with some stuff. Yesterday I was feeling pretty good. (not anymore!) and so I got the heavy ice chopper out and was just breaking up the chunks, but the neighbor kept telling me to push it under the ice. Which meant I had to bend over some. Back didnt enjoy that, and the chopper was just heavy enough that after carrying it for a bit my arm got tired. I think most of the soreness if my hand today is from the marathon crocheting I was doing on a shawl last night. I want to finish it by sunday so I can ship it to my sister for her birthday (it'll be late still) This is weird, my right index finger has been twitching occasionally (probably about 10 minutes a day at varying times) and since last night, I havent felt a twitch. I wonder if all the moving around is keeping the twitch from coming back? I'm getting a sore throat...I wonder if I should go visit (the totally gorgeous) Dr. C and see if I've got the annual tonsilitis yet. |
Meh, your dad is just a kid, Erin. My dad is 85 and still thinks he's 12. You don't owe anyone an explanation for anything. If it's too much, don't do it, save yourself!
I've had that finger twitch thing a couple times too. It showed up one day and went away just as suddenly. I can't say that there was any activity that caused it to start or to stop, but I am glad when it isn't here. That is one of the most annoying things to me, spasticity. Drives me nuts sometimes. The eyelids is probably the one that makes me craziest, UGH! I'm glad that you can still crochet and do things with your fingers. I miss mine a lot. Hopefully, your flu feeling will go away quickly and leave you alone. Yuck. |

Hope your sore throat is just a fleeting thing and not anything serious. |

And I dont think of my dad as old...he's just not getting younger. |

Hi Erin :Wave-Hello: Belated welcome to our little corner of the world.
I too am a crochet fiend (when the hands allow) mostly I daydream about crocheting. I also wish for sci-fi tech to help us out. I did the whole shooting shebang thingie several times and in my book it's not worth the pain and anxiety. Hope you are feeling better and you are successfully completing your shawl. As the others have said. Stop trying to be normal and don't worry if people seem put off by you not keeping up. You are the best person to know and respect your limitations. The sooner you accept them and yourself the sooner the guilt will disappear. Sorry if that sounded like a lecture. I think it was meant for me to hear/see too. I look forward to hearing more about you and hope you will join in the craziness. |
Erin
I just realized that I have been a very bad person. I never said hello to you...I did address one of your comments in another thread, however, but that doesn't count! So, Hello Erin! Welcome to NT!! |
