What's on your plate

I finally am feeling like I'll live..*grin. The sun is out and I took a shower, changed the sheets...thot if the perimedics had to come we'd look clean. :p

The moi's are very much on our minds today...lot's of positive thoughts and prayers going out their way. Abbie I thought your wonders were most excellent! I do wish your friends would contact you.

Doody do you have any ice and snow to try those grippers out on? Ours is all gone....although the river is flooding in several places...not near us.
*whisper...Waves is a friend from the BP forum!

KathyM your good friend is very much on my mind...radiation is no picnic although we've seen it work wonders on friends of ours.

Wren I just love the emails you share with me...often the only laugh I had that day...*grin Thank you.

If this was a wonder thread I'd wonder how BJ's interview went...

And goofy....how are you feeling? And Bizi thank you for chatting last night and for the hugs.

Tena! You finally wondered. LOLOL

Abbie 01-09-2008 03:27 PM

Thank you Alffe...
They're not really good... just random ramblings as I try to figure out which way is up.

{{{{Abbey}}}}

i had a dental appt today... i'm in pain as the tooth was half gone. my dentist said i'd need a crown in the future, but even closer i'd need a root canal done on it... today he made me half a tooth with the silver stuff LOL (almalgam) whatever its called... he said the nerve wasn't exposed but almost.. ANYWAY we'll see what happens... i also found out one of my aunts in california has been given maybe a year to live. she has cancer on her liver, in her intestines, and colon... :( she's very angry and bitter. what do you say to a person who has been told to get her affairs settled? There's a lot more to the story, as she wants to divorce my uncle so he cant have any of the money she inherited when her mom died. She wants all the money to go to her kids. Her and my uncle have seperate bank accounts. anyway there is alot more to the story.
i'll hush.....:grouphug:

Alffe 01-10-2008 06:49 AM

How very sad that $$ is what's on your aunts mind with the limited amt. of time she has left. I would think she'd want to spend that time telling her family how much she loved them, and how thankful she was to have had them in her life and to ask forgiveness. I pray she gets enough time to get her priorities straightened out. Perhaps she can give them monitary gifts of her money while she's still alive. I so sorry. ((Goofy))) Also sorry about your tooth! Hope the temp. repair holds.

I'm going to venture out today!! Slept the entire night in my own bed, without coughing! I need to get a haircut (I look like a basketball) and get my glasses adjusted (sliding down my nose). Mr.Alffe just told me I look pale.. Now that I feel better he tells me that??? His answer was, You weren't well enough to hear it before. :p

Everybody try to stay out of trouble today! :D

Alffe 01-10-2008 08:13 AM

Oh I loved this!

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet."

After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone -- by placing an ad in the local newspaper.

The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car. Only driven for three weeks before snoopy mom who needs to get a life found booze under front seat. $3,700/offer. Call meanest mom on the planet."

Hambleton has heard from people besides interested buyers since recently placing the ad in The Des Moines Register.

The 48-year-old from Fort Dodge says she has fielded more than 70 telephone calls from emergency room technicians, nurses, school counselors and even a Georgia man who wanted to congratulate her.

"The ad cost a fortune, but you know what? I'm telling people what happened here," Hambleton says. "I'm not just gonna put the car for resale when there's nothing wrong with it, except the driver made a dumb decision.

"It's overwhelming the number of calls I've gotten from people saying 'Thank you, it's nice to see a responsible parent.' So far there are no calls from anyone saying, 'You're really strict. You're real overboard, lady."'

The only critic is her son, who Hambleton says is "very, very unhappy" with the ad and claims the alcohol was left by a passenger.

Hambleton believes her son but has decided mercy isn't the best policy in this case. She says she set two rules when she bought the car at Thanksgiving: No booze, and always keep it locked.

The car has been sold, but Hambleton says she will continue the ad for another week -- just for the feedback.

I had such a reaction to this having lost an 8 year old grandson due to the hospital overdosing him with codine following a simple adnoidectomy. Both the adult and child doses were similarly pkged and kept in the same cupboard.
You can't help but wonder how often this happens. :(

Curious 01-10-2008 08:23 AM

 (((((alffe)))))

probably more than ever gets reported. :(

Alffe 01-11-2008 11:16 AM

Am meeting my sister for lunch down the road. Another grey day here but no snow. Goofy I hope your tooth isn't hurting. And Doody, I haven't been to church in ages to ask about the corn sack. Hopefully this Sunday.

Mr.Alffe called me shortly after leaving for an early breakf. meeting and said a cayote (spelling police needed!) ran in front of his car just down the road from us. We are used to seeing deer out here but this is thrilling...or maybe not.
So much growth out here the wildlife is being displaced.

Am enjoying having the tv off and listening to Public Radio..so refreshing!

Doody 01-11-2008 11:23 AM

My only plans for this weekend are...well, just tonight, LOL. Granddoody is spending the night at the other grandma's house, daddy is going out with his guy friends, so mommy is coming to spend the night with me. Yay! :D We're going to have a girls' jammie and video night. I'm even going to fix some chicken soup.

Grey here too. Still snow on the ground but not much.

Alffe 01-11-2008 05:26 PM

Have fun tonight Doody! What movie you gonna watch? wish I had some of your chicken soup...feel a little overdone tonight.

Lara 01-11-2008 06:24 PM

... powdery mildew. (fortunately not on the eating type plates, but that's what's on my "plate" today.

just popped in briefly. Got caught up in some medical journals and PubMed for way too long as usual but I was strong lol and switched them all off! So... have to get moving now as more work calls. I have powdery mildew on all sorts of things after all the rain and humidity here. Sun is out finally so that'll help.

All hail Vinegar. What an amazing cleaning product it is!!!

love to you all. :grouphug:

Wren 01-11-2008 07:43 PM

What an amazing PERSON you are!!

Love to you, Lara :grouphug:

FeelinGoofy 01-11-2008 09:50 PM

tooth is better, jaw is still very sore... i took my FIL to get a haircut today. Tomorrow i'm sleeping in and i have to work 7-midnight at the desk and the girl who usually works the 4-midnight shift blew her ACL in both knees doing roller derby. NOT roller blading... the derby where you slam each other into the wall... it was her first one to do and they just creamed her...

Alffe 01-14-2008 11:23 AM

Mr.Alffe is fiddling around with our water...we lose pressure for a few seconds while showering....very inconvenient with shampoo in your hair. He suspects the water softener...Our well man is going to come out and check the gauges. TG it isn't the plumber! $$

Also the treadmill is broken...stoped abruptly while I was on it...thank goodness I was holding on. Sears coming in the morning.

And the hot tub is leaking and won't hold the heat. :o We left him a phone message but I think Mr.Alffe better go to the bank.

I'm afraid to ask what else could go wrong...we're trying to get ready to leave town.

What's on your plate?

FeelinGoofy 01-14-2008 05:52 PM

sounds like you're getting ready to spend some bucks Alffe :(
Not much on my plate at this moment... it was a good day at work,
except for when we had to call the ambulance for one of our residents.
we suspect she was having a heart attack :(
The kids are studying for finals, and Rick is busy finishing up a side job
hes been doing for several months :rolleyes:He was going to be done with it by Christmas, but that didn't happen.. :winky:
I might go to the "Y" tonight and water walk. Then again i might not LOL

Doody 01-14-2008 07:20 PM

Oh, work work work! Students are back from an extended 4-week break! Oi vey, what a busy place it was. And frigid!? Yes, very very cold here today. Students shivering everywhere they walked.

Tonight just going to take a hot bath and relax. Restless sleep last night for first time in awhile and geez I hate it when that happens. Toss, turn, toss, turn.

Had a very very nice Friday night with my daughter staying here. Just like old times and it felt good, just her and me. I made chicken soup and rolls. Took hot baths, put on our jammies, cuddled up with blankies and watched a skeery movie.

Spent the night there Saturday night and had a good time playing with granddoody. I woke up Sunday before anyone else and as I passed by granddoody's door on the way to the bathroom, I could hear him in there going..."La la la.. La la la la la. LA la LA la la." LOL so I opened the door and he was laying in his crib holding onto his feet...rolling back and forth singing, "La la la la...lal a la la LA LA LA..." then he saw me and GRINNED. LOL

So, it was a good weekend. Very longggggg day at work today. I keep hearing retirement in my brain and wishing I could afford to do just that. *big sigh

We're going to MISS you Alffe during your 2-week vacation!!!! We'll all try to be very very good and not party and carry on in your absence.

 :D  :Trapeze 2: :trampoline:

Wren 01-14-2008 11:36 PM

Oh, it's COLD! I hope there's an extra blanket somewhere.
I don't think I'm as cold as Doody or Alffe but it's plenty cold.... I'm even colder than Curious and Goofy.

And I hope Alffe has a glorious WARM vacation....... but, gee, two weeks? We're gonna' miss her like sunshine for two weeks.

I thought of Alffe today at PT when the the difficult stuff was over and they covered my PAINFUL shoulder and arm with strange and funny little humming electric pads and those with BIG, thick piles of damp heating pads. Oh heaven. Yes, that made me think of Alffe. :p

Alffe 01-15-2008 06:51 AM

Big thick piles of damp heating pads....that does sound a lot like me. :D
On a serious note dear friend..that rehab is so grueling..

*whisper....am taking the lap top along..you won't be able to get away with a thing. :p

It's wonderful to have water pressure again...and only cost 60.00! Needed a new switch. Now we'll see what the treadmill repairman says this a.m.

Doody 01-15-2008 10:26 AM

Oh Wren, aren't those huge warm and moist heating pads just wonderful? And yes, shoulder therapy is grueling. When I had my frozen shoulder the PT said that it was the most painful PT he had to work with on patients. I would always take meds before going to PT to help with the pain. If you can take ibuprofen or something before going it might be a good idea.

I'm glad your water was an easy fix Alffe.

YAY! Alffe is taking her laptop! ( *sigh, no partying and carrying on now) :D

Wren 01-15-2008 10:48 PM

aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh phooey :o I write badly. I meant to say that the GLORIOUS soft, warm, heat pad reminded me so much of Alffe.

And, Doody, this is the third week of my third month of PT therapy .... I have just one more week to go and I STILL can't get my left hand behind my back .... not one inch. The PT grabs it and pushes it back 3 or 4 inches (Ouch !!!) but that's it.
Now I can pat my own head with my left hand and do all sorts of things that seem almost magical. I've been washing my hair with just my right hand for months.
The PTs working with me have said that the shoulder is the most painful thing to deal with and the hardest to repair.

Which reminds me ........ Vicky, how's your knee?

Alffe 01-18-2008 02:30 PM

Well, I met my sister for lunch at the new Southern Cooking place and it was a mixed bag....wonderful fried chicken...wonderful dressing but awful cornbread and awful red beans and rice. And no cabbage on the menu!

And when I came out, the frost on the inside of my windshield had to be scraped....now that's cold! The hot tub continues to lose heat...have to manually jump it up...we're afraid it might crack while we are gone. :o
As Mr.Alffe says, if it can't be fixed, it's like having a junk car in the yard. How does one haul away a big hot tub? :D It's not like I can take it to the road for the trashman.

What's on your plate?

Wren 01-18-2008 02:44 PM

My plate is soon empty of a good computer so I'm saying a temporary "Bye" while I see what happens to this one. No fun.
Much love and best wishes to all of you.
Oh, how I'll miss email and this place. :grouphug:

Lara 01-18-2008 04:06 PM

G'day Wren,
I hope that whatever is wrong with your computer is a simple thing and can be fixed very soon. Don't forget there's a Computer forum here if it's something you think can be sorted out with a little help from your friends. Keep well there and I hope you're back online very fast.

Curious 01-18-2008 06:05 PM

allfe...if your hot tub can't be fixed and you just want it gone...there are some really good sites that you can post an as. just tell them it's free. poof it will be gone. or if you get a new one..tellthem they need to haulit off. maybe give you something for the parts.

((((wren))))

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...0806a001-2.jpg

Alffe 01-19-2008 07:09 AM

Thank you curious...Mr.Alffe came through again and he's bustin his buttons with pride. *grin He called the manufacturer in Calif. and a nice man talked him thru it. Let's see if it holds. (syrup? LOLOL!)

Wren....I already miss you.
